I thought with the blue background you could see the numbers (in black) at night better. No all you see is the blue. So if all you need is a clock for daytime then it would be ok cause it is a green background. So I am not happy with the product.

Had to search for a few hours to find this clock. Had to have sensor to turn on and off the backlight (auto or manual). Big numerals, visible by day, battery powered (3 AAA’s). Only weak point is that the display favors looking down on the clock (below eye level). To compensate for that the box comes with a template and retaining screws for the box that can be used to mount the clock above eye level and tilted down and secured for high up viewing. I use mine under an eave in the summer when sleeping outside to check the time early in the morning and inside on a night table in the winter. Pressing down on the top makes the backlight very bright which will help light up a dark room. It goes back to weak backlight in a short time.

This is an excellent clock for people with limited vision capabilities, as well as those with normal vision. When I first open my eyes, it is like looking through tissue paper for an hour or so. However, I can still read this clock. That’s great for middle-of-the-night time checks. The display characters for the main time display are about 1-1/2″ tall with good contrast, thus easy to read from near and far. They are crisp

Westclox really blew it this model. “automatically lights up in the dark” (this does not happen unless it is turned on and it stays on and if you want to see automatic the snooze button needs to be pushed).
With the back light on in the dark the display can’t be read unless you are above the display by approx. 20 to 40 degrees above it. Only if you push the snooze button it lights up brightly enough to read.
We are very disappointed in this model and we will go to the store and find a large, easy to set and read model with lit LED’s.

Great little alarm clock. Takes a little time to figure out the controls, but now I really like it and use it as a night light, too.
