It’sa peel color reveal but the hair and face reveal with water. The slime is very sticky and sticks to everything so much that you can’t even really mix in the confetti. The mermaid doll came with combat boots?!

There are many little pieces that come in this set, all individually wrapped in surprise pouches to open and reveal the contents.
Unlike the other colour reveal doll we have, this one does not need to be placed in a bath of warm water to reveal her true self. She has a peel-away layer from her bodice (under her arms) to her tips of her toes which peels away easily even by our five year old. Our daughter was totally overtaken by the magnitude of little trinkets this set contained. it took her a while to get through all the pouches.
The icing on the cake is the compact case full of glittery slime with yet another hidden pouch buried deep within it. I’m not going to spoil the surprise as to what this hidden pouch contains, but I can tell you that our daughter loved it!
The included Barbie is a lovely sun-kissed bronzed shade, her hair too is golden with streaks of blonde, some with blue and some Barbies have more vibrant streaks. The complex colouring to her hair is realistic enough to look the part and fit in with Barbie’s theme.

a shorter knee length asymmetric skirt,
a pair of funky boots,
two tiaras,
a pet,
a charm bracelet to be worn by our little one,
a very tiny scrunchi (too small for anyone to get their fingers into, to put Barbie’s hair up!);
a bracelet for Barbie,
and a lovely necklace with a pendant for Barbie.

The doll has a cute face but the colours chosen for this set are quite off-putting. The quality is equal. The Barbie as I knew it is gone.
I understand this is a mass production playline toy, but especially because IT IS A TOY more care needs to be put into it. Especially by Mattel. This is not a new manufacturer somewhere in China who is after a quick buck, this is a brand claiming to get Barbie to the status of a legend. It’s Madonna all over again – the longer you stay in business, the more your name carries you rather than your product. And the quality goes down as it turns into a money making machine explicitly.
The idea of involving the child into finishing the process of creating the doll is not bad but the doll does not engage the child beyond that. It is a rather cheap looking and quite a nasty toy that you get as a result. There is nothing educational about it, it does not teach the child to take care of something that’s theirs, the toy is such poor quality that even if you take care of it, it springs back to its nastiness again. The old Barbie might have been bad for health but this one is no better either, on other levels (plus, it’s still plastic anyway).
Shame really.

My 4 year old granddaughter could peel her covering independently, which she was proud of. She likes the mermaid style outfit and used all the accessories for days (before she lost them). It was a good value for my money and the cost fit my budget.

Barbie is probably the most ask for doll of the 20th century and still going strong even now. Mattel, the makers, are starting to struggle with new ideas to keep the popularity going. This has led to the ‘Reveal Peel’ range.
This set arrives in retail packaging with all the parts hidden inside. That’s part of the fun, apparently. This particular set is based on a mermaid. The doll is probably the first thing that a child will want to open, and they even have a little arrow pointing to its location. All the parts are hidden behind little windows like an Advent calendar. Even then, they are hidden in little sachets that have to be torn open.
There’s a lot going on with this set. It’s a lot more than the tradition doll and accessories. There are things to peel off the doll. There are temperature sensitive patterns and colours activated by warm and cold water. There is even some disgusting slime.
Barbie always comes at a cost and this one is no different. Currently, it is priced at just under £40, which is quite a lot of money. A lot of the attraction of this set is the revealing part, and that really only happens once.
Overall, nice doll set, but too pricey. I hope that helps.
