I was looking for replacement registers for my old house. My old registers measured about 2 3/16″ wide for the damper box so I wasn’t sure if I needed to buy a standard 2″ register or a 2 1/4″ register that I have seen listed. I narrowed it down to two choices for me between the Imperial the Speedi-Grille floor registers. I could not find the exact measurements for each online so I decided to buy one of each and compare them. I was totally impressed with the quality of the Speedi-Grille register. It actually measured about 2 1/4″ even though it is listed as 2″ where as the Imperial which is listed as a 2 1/4″ register only measures 2″ and was very Flimsy and the damper would not even open halfway and would blow shut when the fan kicked on, and the damper box was not attached to the grille very well. It is attached with only a couple pieces of the metal bent through a couple small rectangle holes on each narrow end of the damper box. These bent hooks can actually be seen in the picture. When I pick up the Imperial and shake it, it rattles from loose joints and connections very loudly. The top of the grill, the damper control knob, and the damper box were all bent and there is no way the Imperial is going to hold up to anything more than extremely light foot traffic. The Speedi-Grille is so sturdy that I would not be afraid to roll a two wheel cart with a refrigerator over it, or set the leg of a coffee table, or even the leg of a couch on it. It is built that well. The damper opens and closes completely and easily, and it also stays where you set it without blowing it shut. When comparing the Imperial to the Speedi-Grille the Imperial does have larger openings in the vent and the center openings do blow air straight up but since the damper will not open fully air flow is not increased, but it may be more evenly dispersed throughout the room. With that being said the fact that the Speedi-Grille is built with much heavier metal and the top grill cover and the damper box are welded together instead of just hooked together with a couple of bent hooks on each end, and that the damper will open and close completely and stay adjusted without blowing shut, and it makes no sound when lifted up and shaken, makes choosing the Speedi-Grille over the Imperial an easy choice for me.

This came rattling, and fell apart when I unwrapped it. The sheet metal is held together by small tongues on an exterior piece folding into slits on the interior piece. Forgive me for not knowing the formal terms for this method/design. None of them were adequately secured = sloppy construction. After sever minutes of jacking with the thing, I finally got it bent properly and, seemingly, intact. Unless a person is mechanically inclined, this could be a No-Go, and result in a return. For an average person that is not skilled and inclined to reassembling slop, I do not recommend. Finally, If it was only one failure to be intact, I would not have given a bad review. Since it was all of them (4 – 6), I can only determine sloppy construction is status quo for this company–or this level of the company’s products.

Cant get a product that is this well made and attractive for this price anywhere. I was pleasantly surprised at the pewter finish on these and the sturdy construction. Would definitely recommend.

The opening and closing mechanism/latch is a bit clunky and hard to operate. It was so stuff I had to set it buy grabbing the fins from the bottom of the register but at the end of the day it does the job. I don’t think they’ll have to be changed often so it’s not a big deal. I also wish they were available in black but couldn’t seem to find that option at the time of purchase.

Wow never had to assemble floor registers before. The top of the floor register is decent for the money, but the rest of it is crap. It’s so thin I just bent it with my hands, there is about 1/8 inch gap around it when you close the vent so air would still come in if you were trying to shut it off. I never did get the lever in there right to open or shut them. So they stay open all the time which is normally good but in my case I need them shut I heat with propane stove instead. So I used gorilla tape to keep levers closed. It might have been better if they had included some type of directions or at least all the parts. I was missing 1 lever for 1 of them.

I bought a few of these registers to replace some older, rusting metal registers throughout my house. These registers work pretty well, but are inferior to the older registers in two ways:
1. The metal overlap that goes beyond the 4″x10″ floor opening is narrower than the old registers. With new flooring, this may not be an issue, but with old carpet/tile/linoleum, there will be a ring of dirt that’s hard to get out around where the old register was. This register reveals that ring of dirt and makes things look a bit dingy.
2. The gaps between the louvres is so wide you can easily see inside the register from almost any angle. This isn’t a huge issue, but the old registers masked the ductwork below a little better.
The register’s adjustable louvers work pretty well, allowing almost no air, or full air flow, and they feel like they’ll last at least as long as the old registers. I think I might consider buying these for new installations, but probably won’t buy any more to replace old registers. Look for the older-style metal registers that cover more of the floor around them if you’re replacing old floor registers.

Needed this size and had gone to 6 different store looking for this size in silver to match the register in my bathroom, very pleased with the quality, same as you would find in the store but seems to be a rare size around where i live. Also was cheaper than any of the stores as well if they were to have it.

I gave it 2 stars because the product had to be reordered several times due to not being put together correctly by manufacturer. Once the right ones arrived the product is bang for your buck.

It looks okay. And it’s metal, which is good. But it is made with a switch to be moved up or down to open or close the register. The only way to actually open the back plates is to take out the register and manually open them. The switch does not work, it is stuck in one position.

This register was the ONLY ‘chrome’ finished register that I could find at a reasonable cost. It’s basic in design but basic is what I was looking for. It did take nearly 2 months to receive. Upon opening the plastic (shrink wrap) the unit did fall nearly completely apart. Upon inspection I noticed the tabs which holds it together hadn’t been inserted and bent correctly to prevent this from happening. 5 minutes with a pair of needle nose pliers and I had it back together, correctly, and installed. To save 25-45 bucks, the wait time and fact that I basically had to put it together once it got here, I’m not going to complain. You’re in no rush, you’re a bit handy, looking for basic design and a chrome finish, this vent register is for you. If you’re looking for another finish, I’d probably suggest looking elsewhere.
