We like to give our grandchildren gifts that help them grow, but hold our breath as they open them for fear they will reject the gift as no fun. Not only did my 10 year old grandson dive into this kit with enthusiasm, it pulled other children and parents into it’s spell too. I spent the extra money for the kit with the case, and I am not disappointed; it is well made, it makes it easy to keep the many parts organized, and I am convinced it will help to make this gift last through a couple of handings down. It looks like the case would hold more components, perhaps add-on kits.
The pieces inside the case, are like a puzzle that can be assembled in 300 different ways, and each time it does some different function. They seem durable enough to last a long time, and the snapping mechanisms work well.
I did some research before ordering, and this product is marketed as a classroom teaching tool, it fits the bill. Others, I knew the tiny pieces would soon be lost, the main board dropped, stepped on and broken; money wasted.
I recommend Snap Circuits and think you should get the case too. Just so I’m clear, they sell kits without the case, and cases are available separately.

This set is terrific. My 4.5 year old gets so excited whenever we take it out and build things. He is too young to have the patience to sit through too much explanation of what’s going on but I know eventually he will be ready to learn that. For now, he really loves snapping the circuits together to match the diagram and then flipping the switch to see his creation!

My 10 year old grandson loves this set! It was a birthday gift. I am so glad he is interested in electronics. What a great idea! It was very pricey and his Mom told me I could have gotten the set without the big box for much less money. But my grandson likes the box so all is well.

I am an electrical engineer and my kids are fascinated my arduino, wires and ic’s……they aren’t very practical to let the kids play with though. The boards and components that these are made up of are fantastic. The kids can safely play with an electrical circuit and see what all of the different major components can do. The instructions/builds that come with them are amazing. And the even best part is that the set is easy to add onto. We started with a smaller set and now that more than the one is interested we decided to get a large set and the add on packages make it an easy decision when we are looking for a gift or surprise.

We ordered this for our 5th grade son for Christmas, and were delighted to realize it comes with a lesson book, and quizzes, so we’ve been treating it like an extra-curricular school subject! It’s clear enough for me (who knows nothing about electrical engineering) to teach him from the lesson plans, and we both are learning so much. The pieces themselves are very sturdy, very safe, (we even created one circuit using a cup of water and didn’t die!!), and easy to store in their designated spots inside the carrying case. If you have a child who loves coding, or science, or engineering this is a fantastic gift!

My son received this set for his eighth birthday. He and his 6 year old brother love playing with it! They have already done several experiments. I know this won’t be our last purchase of Snap Circuits, but this set is large enough to last for a while. I also love the way everything is organized in the case, with each slot marked with what is supposed to go there. This set also includes an excellent teacher’s manual which is teaching me all about electricity, so I can in turn teach my son! All in all, worth every penny!!

My son has ADHD. I have the hardest time trying to find something that fits him. He hates camping, hates sports, hate getting dirty, hates museums, hates exercise. You name is he hates it.
So my parents found a small kit like this at a thrift store and he found it and tried and wow, did he sit there and play for hours.
So for his 9th birthday I got him this kit and he was ecstatic. He even gets other kids in on it and he teaches them how to use it. This things he has made has astounded me. I am so happy I found it

This set is excellent. There are a lot of components, a book with a bunch of projects, and an educational book about electronics, all of which are good. My kids are 9 and 12, and both of them like the set, especially the projects that involve sound activated alarms and such. They experiment, and they rig alarms to startle each other, and they gain a little intuition about how electricity works at the same time.
We did have a piece break; one of the snaps came apart on one of the more fun (read “noisy”) components, but I contacted the company and they quickly sent replacement at no charge.
I highly recommend it.
