I’ve read tons of pros and cons of this monitor, and was a bit skeptical at first — but in the end I just bought it and hoped for the best. Originally it was saying delivered, but when I got home from class it was missing — thankfully I found out my roommate had brought it in for me and just placed it in an area I couldn’t see it.
Now, if you’re coming from a TN panel you’ll probably not like this right off the bat, because you’re so used to the washed out colors — but once you adjust you’ll fall in love. I used the settings that someone posted on Reddit (which you can find by searching -> “Acer Predator XB271HU High Accuracy Calibration Settings (Nov 29, 2016)” with the quotation marks) and have no complaints.
You’ll have to also download and use an ICM profile, but these are the settings you can edit on your monitor that I used

Have been cautious about Acer products, this monitor has changed my perception quite a bit.
165fps 1440p GSYNC 1ms response time……
What more do you have to say at this price…
The color is decent for a TN panel after doing a full calibration but as always with TN the color is best straight on. Biggest negative about color is the matte finish which is quite visible on some colors but not bad enough to ruin editing or gaming experiences.
Performance is outstanding. I am running a super overclocked gtx1070 water/hybrid cooled with a 6700k, 16gb ram and Samsung 950ssd. I generally leave the monitor in 144hz normal mode to reduce heat very slightly. 165hz is only beneficial in games I can hit 140+fps.
Assassin’s Creed Origins runs around 80fps on ultra settings and looks stellar as far as color, contrast, latency and 0 fragmenting or lost frames. My OLED tv has better color and contrast but feels less responsive in the moment.
While doing visual design work I do wish the monitor had some deeper blacks but overall after calibration most colors are accurate enough to compare to AMOLED device screens. IPS might be a good choice if you do major visual art, as the srgb mode doesn’t feel accurate on this panel.
The best part about this beast is the physical chassis, it looks high quality and fits any gaming setups easily. Integrated USB 3.0 hub and cable management is very slick for my sit stand desk as I need all the cable management I can get. Tilting, rotating and raising/lowering the monitor can be done with one finger and has a fantastic range on all movements including 90° rotation while coding.
Super slim bezels blend right into my other 2 monitors and I personally like some kind of lip at the bottom.
I use the display port for my desktop and the hdmi when I need to use my laptop on the desk and having all cabling included was a gracious surprise!
Easily the best gaming monitor I’ve owned, 10/10 Respectable for editing but TN panel lacks true color, 8/10 Low latency for all daily tasks and makes browsing fun, 9/10

Great monitor if you get one that works. The one I received still has the Gsync bug from 2016 due to having falty/old firmware on the Gsync module. This is unacceptable as this was supposed to be fixed at least a year ago. Be aware when buying this monitor that the one you receive could have gsync issues.

there is so much difference between 60Hz and 144Hz , you can see everything so clearer and smoother
some tips 1.when u first buy and start this monitor , it will be in default 60Hz , you can change this to 144Hz in your nvidia or amd control panel 2.the first time you see the monitor the white balance might be different , you can change these in your display settings in the monitor , just mess around with colour temperature and find the settings you find the best for you 3.i wouldn’t try overclocking as there is not much difference between 144Hz to 165Hz plus overclocking reduces the lifespan of the monitor so not worth it 4.the controls on the monitor are not that good but once you get used to it , you can navigate with the controls very easily
the 1440p resolution is just awesome, games like witcher 3 and gta 5 etc are just really gorgeous to look at it is heavy and strong doesn’t have any backlight bleeding G Sync makes huge impact on games like batman arkham knight, witcher 3, gta 5, farcry 5, wildlands, division ETC. there is no screen tearing or stutters during gameplay if you were wondering yes it does come with a displayport and a power supply

I really love the image quality etc. However it was manufactured and shipped with outdated firmware that can only be updated by Acer.
The image would get skewed and have artifacts on the side of the screen. It happened so often and the only fix is to turn the monitor off and back on. I sent it in for repair two weeks ago and its still unknown eta. Support is useless and just says its in repair.
If you want Gsync to work check the mfg date on box and the firmware that it is running and if its not current return it to amazon and just keep exchanging one so you dont have to deal with their support or just go by the Asus version which you can update yourself. Since you have to pay to send it in for repair also.

I am writing this review so that it can help others, who are seeking the same information, that I was looking for, before buying this monitor.
About the monitor: The monitor does not have backlight bleed but it can vary from panel to panel. So if you purchase one, make sure to run a “IPS Panel Test” video on the Youtube. The colors are accurate and I set it to my liking. So you can set different aspects of color profiles(there are 6 available) Now for the picture quality, as you expect from an IPS panel, the picture quality is far exceeding. The black levels are really black(not gray or slate).
Important Part: So I purchased this monitor to connect it with my MSI laptop. I was skepticle about utilizing the G-Sync of monitor, through my laptop. So yes, I am able to use the G-Sync. To use it, first your laptop must have G-Sync supported dedicated graphics card(check Nvidia website for same). Then you need a mini display port to display port cable to connect your laptop with the monitor. I used amazon basics cable is it is running great. Reason of connecting with display port cable is: – HDMI does not support refresh rate(frame rate) above 60Hz. So to achive above 60 FPS, you need to connectit with display port cable. – The laptop’s dedicated graphics card is connected with HDMI port and mini display port and G-Sync only works with display port.
About games: It’s resolution is best. You get more clarity then 1080p, without sacrificing performance. Just for the example, I ran Witcher 3 with same setting on 2 resolutions. On 1080p I got around 70 FPS and on 1440p I got 65 around FPS. So you can see there is marginal difference between performance but huge clarity update.
Connecting with consoles: Since the monitor support HDMI and consoles(Playstation and XBox) does not support above 60 FPS, you can connect consoles also. Please note that consoles does not support G-Sync.
Thank you for anyone, who find this information useful.

Since the monitor had Quality control issues, i was skeptical about buying it. I was afraid getting dead pixel or ghosting issue. Fortunately, the piece i received is in superb condition without any issues. And currently this is the best monitor for 1440p 144hz Gsync monitor. So just go for it.

PROS of XB271HU
• The stand was easy to setup, it feels high quality and moves smoothly. The vertical adjustment was stunningly useful. • 1440p//IPS are a night-and-day difference over my previous use of 1080p//TN panels. • IPS bleeding is minimal. The top-right corner of my screen is most affected, but it’s not easy to see.
CONS of XB271HU
• At random intervals, the monitor “displaces” a line of pixels from the center of the screen, displaying them on the right edge. • ACER support says this problem can be sent in for repair. But it feels stupid having to pay $60 in shipping to firmware update a NEW monitor. • Feels extra stupid because this problem was discovered 2-years before my purchase. • This bug occurs once or twice per 10 hours, and goes away if you power-cycle the screen. • At other times, I’ve noticed a split-second graphical disturbance about 1″ long in the center of the screen.
CONCLUSION • The bugs are minor. But small bugs are hard to swallow on a top-shelf monitor. • Overall happy with my purchase, but can’t give 5-stars to a bug-riddled product.

The monitor is fantastic and works well. However it does have it’s kinks. The first would be color calibration. That took a long while, out of the box it had poor color and the settings didn’t really help. Thankfully a reset did the trick and the color settings worked. The second is the strange coating on the display glass that makes it look like it has some sort of screen protector on it. It looks alright until you have any kind of really bright color show on screen like whites or light blues. Other than those the no monitor handles very well and g sync makes it all the better.
Edit: had to do a replacement. I got bad lightbleeding. Will redo review once the new one arrives.
Its been awhile but i wanted to make sure it was fine. It was working great for a few weeks and then it out of the blue, or should i say red… a pixel in the middle of the screen went red, and then it corrected itself for a few days and has since stayed red. So.. i dont recommend this monitor at all, stay away. 2 bad monitors in a row says enough about this one.

This is my 3rd one of these monitors and all of them have been defective. The defect usually shows up after a couple weeks to multiple months. The screen splits down the middle periodically and shows a mirror image of whatever programs you have open on the left side. literally 3 different monitors have all had the exact same problem. I originally bought 2 of them. and returned and got a replacement for 1 of them. The replaced one ended up having the same problem and then the 2nd monitor started having the same issue again. Amazon ( I spoke with a customer rep that claims his name is “Jay” on 9/23/2018 @11:L30AM) refused to give me a full refund for these monitors but instead told me that I can return both monitors and receive a partial refund for them. This is an absolute joke and I will no longer be purchasing items from Amazon or Acer. Acer knows about this issue and the only way to fix it is apparently to send it back to them at your cost and have them do an in house Firmware upgrade. Unacceptable for such an expensive monitor.
