Detective Ezekiel Banks (Chris Rock) struggles to amount to the precedent set by Marcus (Samuel L. Jackson), a respected former police chief. When a series of unsettling murders sends the community reeling, Ezekiel teams up with his young, new partner, William Schenk (Max Minghella), to track down the killer. Yet the further they dig into the evidence, the more the recent killings begin to resemble a disturbing period in the city’s history, ultimately leaving Ezekiel vulnerable as the murderer’s next target. Darren Lynn Bousman directs this ninth installment in the Saw franchise.~Maggie Sadler

Was Spiral a terrible movie? Absolutely. I only purchased this for the awesome coverart on the steelbook. Also being a massive SAW fan this one definitely ranks the lowest of the series for me but I still have to own it because i have all the others and need to have a complete collection before we eventually get a final collector’s box edition

Beautiful packaging, one of the nicest steelbooks to be released this year.

Spiral gave a new take on the ‘Saw’ series, which I enjoyed very much. As a big fan of the franchise, this movie had very creative (and painful) traps and interesting characters.
My only gripe was the condition of the steelbook. There was some pieces of plastic that had broken off inside and almost cut me when I opened it. Just as Jigsaw had said, “Oh, yes, there will be blood.”

A better take on the Saw franchise. Only thing that didn’t set right was Chris Rocks approach. I liked the twist at the end.

Not a typical SAW film, it’s very different from the franchise hints why it’s a spin-off, the mystery keeps you entertained and the traps in the film are very well grounded for a SAW film, Chris Rock stills the show and he’s the main focus compared to all their SAW films, almost like watching SAW meets Seven. I would watch it again for sure.

This is a decent entry in the “Saw” franchise. There are very few original plot points. However, it is engaging and the pacing moves rather quickly. The image and sound are great. Overall, an enjoyable horror/gore movie.
