Played a version of this at a friend’s house and everybody had a blast. The one I played was of much better quality and this is a smaller, knock-off of the one I played. I bought this the next day after playing and should have paid attention to the reviews. As others have said the dowel rod that holds the numbers was warped on arrival which prevents the numbers from standing upright. Therefore you cannot use this game as intended if the numbers don’t stand up… I would steer clear of this and recommend they stop selling until they fix this issue.

A friend of mine introduced me to this game and I took note of the manufacturer so I could buy my own copy. I immediately ordered from Amazon and product looks DRASTICALLY different from his.

There is no textured outside, which looked great on his copy. In a couple of customer pictures and the product pictures you can see an example. What arrived on my doorstep was a plain smooth top that was scratched and ugly. I can somewhat forgive this due to price, but still annoying.

On the inside, the tiles themselves also have damage (dings and scratches). The dowel holding them in is cheap and shoddy. The divider between the dice rolling area and the tile area is wonky and not even all the way across.

I didn’t expect much for the price, but I expected more especially since it was from the same manufacturer of a better version. Quality control is seriously lacking.

Hey people that make Shut the Box. Two suggestions. First, the Stain is always half dry. It’s slightly sticky. All you had to do was leave it open, out of the plastic to fix this, but I’m 100 percent sure it hurts your sales. Especially since it make the numbers stick together until it’s been left open for 3 days.

2nd. Sell the box with normal white dice if you want an adult to play it.

Lastly. I’m on my third shut the box because people keep giving me an offer I can’t refuse to sell it to them. The game is fun and easy to learn.

Please fix stated problems. You could triple your sales.

I got this for a gift. The bar that holds the tiles is flimsy, but the real reason for the poor rating are the overall quality. There were chips out of the wood where the hinges are, the overall finish is not good and the finish is not dry. Imagine getting your 10 year old a kit and having them put it together the morning of the party; then sending it out with chips, spots with no finish, and smelling like….well, like they finished it in the basement that morning.

Very very disappointed with this product. I ordered the maximum allowed and had to return all three. Everyone of them was poorly manufactured. Even though they were wrapped I open one up because it looked like sawdust in between the wrapping and the box. Opened it to fine saw dust inside as well as the rod holdind the tiles half missing like the dowel rod was rotten. Tiles were backwards on all three games could not flip them right side up. Then the black felt on the bottom was to big for the box and only glued on one side. Was unbelievable they should never passed inspection. Had to return all three, will fight the Christmas crowds at the store. First time ever been disappointed with something I ordered from Amazon. Had a good rating. I own one these games myself. Just show the quality of workmanship is not what it was 20+ year ago.

The box itself is very cute and well made! Sadly, the wooden tiles were mis-stamped, and the rod they connect to wasn’t set in correctly. When you try to lay one tile down a bunch of the others come with it (not ideal).

My husband in his eagerness to buy the game didn’t notice this was a 9-pc set and since the one we received had some quality issues, we’re returning it for a 12-pc.

This is an awesome game though, and the smaller size would be great for travel.

We played this game at an AirBNB and HAD to have it- we ordered it online and it was waiting for us when we returned home. Great game for all occasions- even testing elementary math skills for the younger ones! Minus one star because the quality was not up to par. The dowel rod was bowed. Velvet in the bottom wasn’t secure. Small details that meant something to us! Especially since it’s in such a nostalgic-like box!

Since the vendor has not made themselves available to ask the questions or report the problem, I will simply have to put it in my review. The quality is not what I would have expected. I suppose you can say you get what you pay for, but, I wasn’t expecting something so sloppily put together that it’s arrives in pieces. The felt is not attached I suppose I could go out and buy some glue and attach it. There’s a piece of wood that I think I know where it belings, but I’ll have to blow up the pictures and see where that belongs. The wood around the hinges is so chipped up I suppose to make it look vintage maybe? At any rate it’s not something I can give as a gift. It is also not worth the effort of hunting down a place to send it back.
