I set this 250-500gph pond kit up yesterday. This is for my 165g pond. Initially I ordered the 50-250 but someone told me that if you have fish (which I plan on having) that the lowest number is more accurate. I sent the first back and got the 250. It came with directions but I found them pretty poor. I think if I had not kept aquariums and fountains it would have been more difficult for me to figure out but since I have the background I put it together fairly easily. Wish the spray attachments were easier to get on and off. I put the spray on pretty tightly and now am thinking I’d rather have the bell. Its going to take some work for me to get it back off as it is not a threaded attachment but rather a tight slip on fitting that you push together. I’ll have to get my husband to help!

The box is nice and roomy and comes with a couple of large filter pads. There was plenty of room in the bottom to put in a liter of Seachem Matrix which if you’re not familiar with it is a bio-media for your nitrogen cycle and has a special makeup that allows also for the development of anaerobic bacteria to keep nitrates down. This will help keep water changes to a minimum in the pond and keep my fish healthy.

I set it up temporarily in a 30g bin with some fish food to get a jump start on the nitrogen cycle while I wait for my pond to get setup.

I think I am going to be happy with this unit.

This is a great filter/ fountain.. only reason for 4 stars is because it doesn’t have a easy adapter to unhook the pump from the filter part for cleaning. Im afraid in time that the pipe will just ware out but its on my 300gallon fish pond and does a amazing job at keeping it clear. I have 7 fish from 5in to 13in and they all love being under the fountain part of it. I do have to hose it out every week but its really easy to do. If it dies I will definitely get another one.

Fake product, not a real TetraPond. Got it in the pond and right away it barely pumped at all, just a trickle. See the photo – the one on the left is this item and the one on the right is the genuine product of the same model that I already owned. When I placed them side by side I can see small differences in the logo and the other markings are in french on the fake product and in english on the real product. Sent back for a refund.

I love this pump so much I ordered two. It is very durable. Fairly easy to clean. The pump is powerful. I have one that pumps water to the top of a faux waterfall, about 8 feet of tubing rising 3 feet. I live in zone 7 and I’m lazy and leave them out year round. My only complaint is that because of the filter box sticking out so far I can not use it in some of my preformed ponds that have a narrow bottom. I would recommend this for ponds that have a flat space of 1’ by 2’ at least to accommodate it’s size. It is powerful and quite. The suction is not high enough to hurt even the smallest feeder fish. I like the variety of heads you get with the fountain attachment; I usually opt for bell to keep down splashing.

Bought to use in a 60 gallons pond. Worked for 3 days. At the first clean up of the filter, the plastic piece that connect the filter with the pump broked. Impossible to repair. Seller refuse to refund, had to use the amazon a-to-z guarantee. Do not recomand these seller, but otherwise Amazon provide excellent customer service.

Worked for exactly 35 days and quit. 5 days past the return policy. I put mine in a 250 gal pond and only ran it 5 hours a day tops!!! If I could give it zero stars, I would. I should have known this was cheap when I tried to put it together, half the fountain attachments broke during assembly. Don’t waste your money. I have friends that pointed at me and laughed for buying this pump for a garden pond. They said Tetra does not make a pump that lasts more than a few weeks in a garden pond. Pay more for a better brand, because this cheap brand is exactly that… CHEAP!

If you buy this, be prepared to solve a 3-dimensional puzzle with relatively no assistance. Be prepared to deal with broken or defectively manufactured parts. Then, when you finally rig it together, be prepared to throw on your hydroengineering hat to troubleshoot why it’s not doing what it’s supposed to. I read other reviews before buying this – people saying the pump was too weak – too little pressure, etc. When I got only a trickle out of it at first, I thought maybe I was scammed as well. Turns out, the pump wasn’t the problem for me. It runs like a champ. The problem was a defective plastic connector where the water exits the pump to the fountain/other connections. After finagling a home-made workaround for that part, it seems to work as originally expected. I still only give it 2 stars for wasting my time, but if this review saves someone out there from disappointment, at least there’s that.

I decided to buy this filter for my outdoor turtle pond setup. It’s a 230 gallon kiddie pool that has one aquatic turtle in it and it usually gets dirty pretty fast. So far, this filter has done a great job at keeping the water clear! I used to have to do complete water changes every week, but now the water stays cleaner for a long time. It’s been 1 month and still no need for a water change! I just spray the filter pads off with the garden hose every 1-2 weeks and do minimal spot cleaning for small debris spots on the bottom of the pool floor. The box does float a little bit, but can be fixed by just putting some rocks inside the box underneath the filter pads or you could put a rock or brick on top of the box. The fountain attachments are pretty decent. The connectors take some trial and error to figure out which ones fit where. There is also a flow control knob on the side of the nozzle to control the size of the fountain spray. I did make a quick video of this fountain on youtube just in case anyone would like to see it in action. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=17gBjAUUEb4

Doing an excellent job keeping my 600gal Koi and plant pond clean and clear. To those who have pump problems, you must occassionally clean debris from fountain head and or the impeller in the front of the pump by twisting off the front housing.
Those 2 issues can cause the pump to overheat and fail. As to those who have a problem with the directions, if you cant figure it out, you shouldn’t have a pond to begin with. Its basic pond 101.
