Costa Farms Flowering Bromeliad Live Indoor Plant Fresh from Our Farm 12-Inches Tall, in White-Natural Décor Planter

Two of the plants were healthy (so far); one looks a little sick and one was dead on arrival. Of the two that are as pictured they are very pretty. On a side note, no drainage hole in pots. Pots are ceramic. Will need to be repotted most likely. So sad about the sick plant. I have mine outside so they get morning dappled sun.

Update: changed to 5 stars. Was sent two new heathly and gorgeous plants without asking…they just appeared, like magic! What great customer service!

Photo is straight out of the box and the plant is beautiful! Every plant I’ve ordered from Costa Farms is gorgeous on arrival and thriving now. Have tried two from another company on Amazon and they aren’t doing so well.

I have now had 3 plant orders from Costa Farms / Amazon within an approximately 2 week period of time. My first order was a majesty palm, and I was extremely impressed. It exceeded every expectation I had, and I wrote a rave review (which I rarely write reviews), and also led to me placing 2 more plant orders, and I made sure they were Costa Farms. When I received these 2 bromeliads my heart sank. They were beyond “mature”, and one in particular was way beyond it’s peak. Bromeliads bloom one time. Then the mother plant dies, and if you are lucky you get baby plants (pups) that grow off the side of the mother plant. But it is a lot of work to “grow” the babies. Most people simply throw the entire plant away when the one time bloom is done. My point is these bromeliads should be sent at the beginning of the bloom cycle ideally, or right before, but at the extreme latest right before the middle of the bloom cycle. It is unconscionable in my mind that a company should send a buyer a plant that is anywhere near the end of it’s bloom cycle. But sadly that is exactly what happened to me. I could have returned the plants, but they are living things, and honestly I felt bad for them to have to endure being boxed up again, and sent back to Costa Farms. I also didn’t want to tarnish Costa Farms image or whatever. Everybody makes mistakes. So I contacted them directly to give them a chance to make the situation right. I never heard a word. Bromeliads are extremely unique in what you are buying. Most plants grow, and continue to grow. Bromeliads have a limited life span (realistically). Most people are not going to do what it takes to get the babies to mature. It is a significant undertaking that requires time, knowledge, skill, and effort. Bottom-line, I would not recommend buying bromeliads online, at least not from Costa Farms. Maybe there are other companies that are good, but in the future I will be buying these particular plants locally so I can see where the plant is in it’s life cycle.

I didn’t have time to open the box the day it arrived, it sustained after another day in plastic. I was surprised at how well it maintained. The colors were vibrant, as if I just picked it up from a local farm. The pot it came with was a huge plus, a much needed accent for nyc living. I feel like I can breathe a little lighter already. Ordering online saved me a trip I didn’t have time for.
