This opinion doesn’t exactly reflect all of us here, but it does for me, the author behind this specific review. I have known of the Gunnar name for years but never tried a pair on. A few years ago I bought into another option from a company called Altec Vision. It was an affordable pair with a stylish metal frame design. I’ve been using it ever since and have liked it a lot. So I said, maybe it was time to give Gunnar a try since they have such a reputation to the name.
There are things I like about this pair of Gunnar glasses.
I like that they very neatly pack them into multiple boxes. Not only will it absolutely arrive in one piece, but it does add to the fun of the unboxing of it. The final box is a storage box for the glasses, lined in felt. Although they also give you a simple drawstring pouch in case the box is too bulky for your needs.
I like the level of protection the glasses offer from blue light compared to the more affordable pair I have been using all this time.
I also like the idea of the removable arms and the attachable drawstring to use as an alternative way of wearing them, so headphones do not dig into the sides of your head. This can greatly increase the comfort of the wearer.
However, they don’t look much different from a pair of any other plastic alternative that you’d find on the rack of your favorite discount store. This can be troubling when it comes to the price Most importantly, there seems to be a magnification to them that doesn’t seem to be mentioned anywhere. The card that comes in the box does talk about the terms used for various Gunnar glasses and that the company does offer models with certain powers of magnification. However, nothing is mentioned about this pair being one of those. It only mentioned the “amber” tint. Therefore, one would assume this is a normal “natural” pair with no modification to sight.
It is an ever-so-slight magnification, but just enough to mess with your eyes when you put it on. Like putting on a very low-power pair of reading glasses. This doesn’t work so well since my eyes have near-perfect vision. Therefore, it causes stress to my eyes like wearing a pair of 3D glasses at the movie theater. So that caused a drop of two stars. One of the fact that the effect is there, another for the fact that it isn’t mentioned anywhere.

These glasses are very nice if you happen to wantless strain on your eyes during computer usage. This is a pretty good thing to have for gaming as well. Unfortunately you cannot put this over your glasses if you happen to wear prescription glasses and I still recommend looking away from your monitor every hour even with these on. Be aware that this may not fit every one and it has a general size that seems to fit majority of the people I had try this on. The frame is pretty solid so it should not snap or break. You cannot make too many adjustments to this as it is not a flexible material. This actually works pretty well for reading too if you have a hard time reading papers or anything. There is no rubber pads. So you do not have to worry about gunk getting caught under the pads. The frames are easy to clean with some cleaning solution and the paint coating does not look like it will come off very easy. Adjusting is almost not doable as the material is a hard material and not too flexible which makes it a bit harder to fit some people’s heads. This can be a bit annoying as you need to find a comfortable spot where your head feels comfortable with these on. This does not hinder your vision at all and actually helps my eyes feel less tired when working on a computer screen. It does help me with gaming as well as I do not feel as fatigue during raids and such. It does take some getting used to adjust to the warmer color. What is nice is that this comes with a carrying case so you can easily takes this into the office and home for use. The lens themselves did come a little dirty with noticeable smudges and stuff that were easy just to wipe off. The lens can feel a little cheap so I am afraid it will be very easy to scratch but I usually keep it as pristine as possible. That being said, I do not expect the coating on the lens to come off. These are not prescription glasses so be aware of that. The hinges are also very sturdy and do not need any adjustments. Overall I think this glasses are pretty nice. It is easy to put, lowers my eye strain, and look great.

The Gunnar brand is well-known for having great blue blockers, so we got these for our gaming teens. They have a heavy amber tint, much stronger than other blue blockers we’ve tried. That seems to work really well.
The main issue is that these glasses are magnifiers, which wasn’t mentioned at all in the description or packaging. It feels like wearing reading glasses, which my teens don’t need, so wearing these have been giving them headaches.
If you normally use reading glasses, these probably would be great. They are comfortable and seem to be great quality. But if you don’t need reading glasses, these might be hard on your eyes and not worth the money. I wish it had said something about magnification on the website before I ordered them. It doesn’t even mention it on the packaging, so the buyer won’t know this until they put them on.
