I replaced a 35-year-old Sentry safe (tumblers were failing and I was afraid of not being able to get into it) with a smaller fire safe/lock box to hold birth certificates, passports, etc. The smaller box was not a SentrySafe, but a reputable company. Although it had been advertised as 8-1/2 x 11, it was slightly smaller and made pages curl at the edges. In addition, it was bad about humidity – despite a large packet of desiccated silica gel I kept inside. This new SentrySafe waterproof file is a bit large, but I ended up needing the space anyway. I really like the way it handles hanging files – I can organize things much better. I pray I never have to find out how well it holds up to fire or water.

This safe is a good buy but in this year I noticed it has developed a crack on the outer skin of the safe I only had it for three years because of this I cannot give it a five star review

Don’t buy this safe. The handle mechanism is a cheap plastic insert. The piece attached to the button lever is very cheap, didn’t work consistently and then just broke. Had to pry open

The safe is very nicely built. I do have a slight problem though. The lid seal was not installed properly and is mashed and mangled when it was shut in the lid at the factory.
There is phone number to call on a sticker inside the lid but that number is invalid. I found another number in an owners manual and that number is also invalid.
Finally got on the website and found a valid number but the offices were closed when I called. I used their online “contact us” for reporting issues but the email was returned to me as being an invalid address.
Sentry Safe has been around many years and I cannot believe they put invalid numbers inside the products they sell, in the owners manuals, and their email address on their website is invalid.
Get it together Sentry Safe. I would give 5 stars but with all the misinformation inside my safe, in the booklet and on your website, it doesn’t warrant 5 stars.

It is a substantial safe place to store your official documents. With the pandemic the availability of safety deposit boxes at local banks proved to be unavailable. Now my executors have access without inconvenience. My only negative remark is it’s weight. For the elderly that drawback is outweighed by the positive.

I was very disappointed with this safe. I own a Sentry safe that I purchased many years ago. My husband and I decided that we needed another safe and wanted to stick with the same brand. It’s not the great quality that are older Sentry safe is. The plastic lever that has to be pushed in to open the safe is cheap and I could see it breaking over time or just not unlocking properly. The set of keys that came with the safe does not go in or come out smoothly. You need to wiggle them around to work. Keys are cheap and I could easily see them breaking off inside the locking mechanism. I do not recommend purchasing this safe.

This is not much of a safe. The latch can be popped open with a screwdriver. This thing is more of a fire protection box. It is to narrow to fit any legal sized papers in it. At best it holds the standard sized notebook paper. If you are looking for a safe this is not for you. If you want to protect jewelry, hand guns or notebook sized papers from water and fire then this fire box will do the job nicely.

Bought my safe in march 2019, and after 2 years, indoors in a normal environment, no fires, no excessive heat or cold, no moves or anything, the plastic shell has extensive cracking, there are long cracks running the length of every side of the shell. I can probably peel the shell off by hand. The interior is some kind of dusty white material, like plaster, and the safe is shedding dust on the floor. Was really expecting the safe to last longer and not need replacement every couple years.

Convenient, not too heavy, reasonable space inside. Easy to open and close. The only con is that the accompanying literature states that its high-moisture walls create a humid interior that is harmful to metal and other water-sensitive items. It advises enclosing such items in water-tight containers first, which would greatly reduce the available storage space. Seems like a strange warning for a supposedly water-resistant box.

The biggest reason I purchased this safe, over other models with a similar fire rating, is the carrying handles. Even these small fireproof file chest can kinda heavy and cumbersome to move around. This file chest is everything I expected it to be. The key lock kept the price within my budget. I gave it a low security rating but it was designed that way, so I am in noway disappointed. SentrySafe is honest and upfront about admitting that the larger safes are the ones designed to be burglar resistant.
