Nice little drill, not a fan of the non locking chuck. And the drill is quite large, too large for a 12v when compared to competitors especially the dewalt 12v line. But it does the job I guess. This is my second one, the first one had an issue with the chuck and in my laps of judgment I took it apart and kinda messed it up so I wouldn’t be able to warranty it. Oops! But I found an open box one on Amazon for like 25bucks bare tool so I bought another. Figured I’ll give this drill another try. Understand this is a cheap drill bit a top tier drill! If it fails again I’ll seek out a brand that can be repaired and be done with throw away drills for good.

Original review: It’s nearly as large as my normal Porter Cable 20v drill. Not quite a light and portable driver compared to others.
The light isn’t that great (very dim even on fully charged battery, too disperse and not enough to actually light up the area you are working on). But I do like the fact that it has the quick chuck option inside to simply insert bits. And it fits well in the hand and so far has done the job. Easy to reverse direction as well, and power for what I’ve tried so far.
So while it’s larger and heavier, I’m hoping the brushless motor will give me some longevity and reliability.
Edit now 5 months later…
I’ve used it literally less than 10 times. I think I grabbed it maybe 5 or 6 times to do some little quick assembly thing like a hose bib and such. And a few more times just to remove a shelf from a wall.
And last night it failed. Just makes a “click” sound and the light flashes rapidly. Online manual says that it indicates overheat – well, I was using it in 8 degree weather to put four little screws in something I was assembling in the garage (aforementioned hose bib from Amazon Basics) and it failed on the third screw. Couldn’t have overheated that quick. And today it still fails.
Got with support, they went through the registration, made me send them a copy of my receipt from Amazon here, and now all I get from them in email is “If you have anything further to add let us know.” Nothing to indicate if they’re going to replace it or what… Since it’s only 5 months old and hasn’t even a mark on it (still looks absolutely brand new since it’s been used so little) I will be rather irritated if I just have to write it off as lost…

So you’ve been looking at a newer set of cordless tools for weeks now, and you really want the one of the Big 3 sets, but man it’s just so much money!
These Skil tools keep scratching at the back of your mind, but they’re almost too cheap, and my neighbor doesn’t have Skil tools in his $50,000 dollar hobby garage now does he?
But you’ve read the reviews, watched the ProTools review, and you’re thinking maybe, just maybe, these are actually pretty good?
It’s true.
I got this set, along with the side impact and oscillating tool for work (lighter duty, golf cart assembly and also for home/auto maintenance) and I am just pleased as punch. The drill is plenty powerful, you can feel the torque when you pull the trigger. It will cut out if you push too hard on your work item, but just lessen the pressure and let it do its thing (your drill bits will last longer too). The lower torque settings are great for not over-driving screws into plastic parts.
But the real star is the impact driver.
Perfect fit in my XL paw, great balance w the 2.0 battery, the halo light is amazing, and the power is phenomenal. The few bolts I haven’t been able to remove, my buddy’s 18v Makita didn’t budge either (air tool took them off like it was never tight, totally different animal). Great battery life, haven’t needed the Jump feature but it’s cool to have, as are the USB ports on both the charger and the batteries (No, you can’t charge the battery via the usb, why would you even think that?)
And sure, the tool range isn’t as wide as the Big 3, but for the price you just cannot go wrong here.
And, a 5 YEAR warranty (register within 30 days!)
Big 3 and Tool Truck power tool warranty is ONE year.
Anyway that’s my take after a year of use, hope it helps!

Wow, I’m amazed again by the Skil performance.
I was reviewing the drill driver in another combo kit, so let’s have a focus on the impact driver first.
This impact driver drives anything sze of screw with an ease, it doesn’t feel underpowered in any way, I had a hard time believing that this is just a 12 volt tool. Additionally, I compared it to my Milwaukee M12 Fuel, and this performed equally and even a bit outperformed the big red in the room.
And to mention it again. I tested the drill driver head to head with the Milwaukee M12 Fuel, and shockingly the Skil outperformed the Milwaukee in every single test. I was drilling holes, driving fasteners, and every single time the Skil came out on top.
To be transparent, the impact driver is slightly heavier than the Milwaukee, so if it’s a deal breaker you may want to go with the Mill.
The Battery lasts quite long on this, once again, you get way more run-time on this then with the Milwaukee 2.0 Ah.
Considering all the above plus it’s price, this should be the 12 volt system you should go with.

Now this drill is my favorite cordless drill I’ve ever had. I originally bought this way back with the digital level combo. I bought it to use at work as a junk drill. It was cheaper and I liked the look too. After it arrived though I fell in love with it. So I took it home to use as my main drill for my DIY projects. The drill has a nice look and feel to it. Fits great in your hand and is lightweight. The power is amazing for a 12v, it has 350 in pounds of torque. It also has a 1/2 inch keyless church with a hex in the back of it for bits. Which is rare for alot of 12 volt tools. Just for an example, Milwaukee (my favorite tool brand) their top of the line 12v drill has 350 in lbs of torque as well. I’ve used this thing to do just about everything, it’s not heavy duty but it will do just about anything you ask it too. I personally think the battery life is amazing on this thing as well.
So if your looking for an affordable, good long lasting drill. Definitely consider going with the Skil pwrcore 12
