Bought this for my granddaughter who is 2 and she was so excited when she saw it. The pieces are really cute but are very difficult even for me to get into the holes and several pieces cannot be used in combination with other pieces because of the size? I don’t remember having these issues with the ones bought 40 years ago for my own children.
The suitcase is junk. It will not stay shut no matter what we do which make it totally useless. After reading through the reviews I see this has been a problem for quite a long time, is there no one smart enough to correct this or do you not care?
I would have sent the whole thing back but like every other parent out there, it is hard to take away a toy once your child has used it and call me cynical but I feel like you are counting on that for your sales.

I just wanted to give it 5 stars and be done with the review, but they require a description on Amazon…so I’ll post my mom’s secret chocolate chip cookie recipe here instead (not so secret anymore, is it, Mom!?):

    4 cubes butter, softened
2 heaping cups dark brown sugar (packed, then heap that shiz)
    ½ cups white sugar
    2 tablespoons vanilla
    1 ½ teaspoon salt
    1 ½ teaspoons baking soda
    3 eggs
    6 cups flour
1 bag chocolate chips (semi-sweet or sweet)

Mix BY HAND all ingredients, except flour and chips (mixing by hand makes them taste better, trust me).
Then add flour and chips and stir BY HAND. Bake @ 350 for 9-11 minutes on ungreased cookie sheet. Enjoy the preciouses.
Note: makes a buttload of cookies, so you might want to halve the recipe.

I purchased a large number of these (both Mr. and Mrs.) to use at our elementary school for our “Tardy Tator” program. Each classroom has one and if no kids are tardy that day, a piece is added to their classroom potato head. When we get 10 pieces added, we take a pic and post it then start over again. The kids love the selection of pieces, though as you can see from the pics, my older kids decided to create very funny potato people rather than standard ones (think arms coming out the nose hole, ears on top of the head, etc). It has held their interest the first half of the year, and soon we will be swapping our Mr. for another class’s Mrs. so we will have new body pieces and swag to use to keep it fun. The pieces are quite durable and we have constructed and deconstructed it many times already.

This Mr Potato Head makes me so sad. It’s plastic shell is even thinner and more brittle than the one I bought my daughter a few years ago and significantly thinner and more brittle than the one I had growing up as a child in the 80s. The pieces are difficult to put in for small children and it’s just not good quality. The case is to some extent improved but that’s all. I wish they would quick cutting costs (on their end – not ours) by cheapening the materials. If you’re looking for a throwback toy, look elsewhere. If you’re looking for a toy for your child, be aware that you will be doing all of the work, which essentially negates all the learning and creativity which formerly made this such an excellent toy for self-directed play.

My kids love the Mr potato head! The pieces are durable and easily fit into the slots.

Mr. Potato Head, what has happened to you? When did you stop caring about quality and product design? When did your pieces stop fitting anymore?

Seriously, I remember playing with a Mr. Potato Head when I was a kid and the quality and design have really gone down hill. The pieces don’t fit in their holes like they should. I’m a big guy and I can’t even get some of them to go into the holes, so the kids don’t stand a chance. There are other pieces that don’t even work. The mustaches don’t fit with the noses provided in the kit making the useless. We also found that this potato head doesn’t work with our older potato head’s parts, it is very frustrating to have two non interchangeable potatoes around the house. I also feel the overall quality and fit and finish of the parts has really taken a nosedive.

I wanted to love this product, but I just can’t, it’s on my do not buy list.

So I purchased this classic toy after the latest liberal mind fart stated that it was insensitive to the lbgtq whatever. I remember having one when I was a kid and I never thought it made me want to go gay bashing, or tuck my sack in and prance around my room. Anyway, it is insensitive and contributes to classic masculinity toxicity. WTF is wrong with us America? The funny thing is, you can mix and match body parts all you want with this thing. That is the whole point! This thing should be the icon of the left with their belief of a “infinite gender spectrum!” I mean if ever there were a toy that challenged the idea of sexual definition, it is Mr. Potato Head! Anyway, im sure this is a sign for great things to come. Mr. Dementia running the country as an empty vessel to be manipulated by the squad and other aggressive progressives. Shoot, as much as they hate amazon and Jeff Bezos for being successful, you would think they wouldn’t have prime accounts. I betcha they do.

The number of stars this toy gets surprises me. Typically 4.5 stars on a product is a pretty safe bet. Not the case here. I love the many cute pieces, the price is reasonable and a big selling point for me was the carrying case. BUT sadly, our case doesn’t properly close and frequently pops open letting all the pieces spill out when our child uses the handle to carry it. Actually it just pops open at random with no one even in the room. It’s just not secure. It’s almost like the front and back were individually shaped by slightly different molds? Or it sat in the sun and warped? It simply doesn’t align and the latch doesn’t secure. Also, the potato’s holes are too small/tight or the body parts’ pegs are too big. (Example: of the three sets of arms available, they all are VERY hard to push in (for even an adult, so a young child certainly can’t do it). In fact, it’s so tight/small that the arm pegs essentially stop when inserted only half way into the hole. This is the case with the eyes as well.) BUT my daughter loves the set, and like other parents, I don’t have the heart to take it away to return. So sadly, she can’t play with it by herself. Bummer. Great concept but disappointing.
