Perhaps the last hoorah for the RIVAL line of Nerf blasters now that Hyper is around, the RIVAL Curve Shot blasters have the primary gimmick of an adjustable barrel to make shots “curve” around objects in different directions. The Sideswipe is the larger of the 2 offerings (the other being the Flex), and is actually a lot better than it seems.

The Sideswipe is a traditional “springer” style blaster that primes via the small lever on the right side (sorry, left-handed folks). It has a very short draw and is actually easier to prime than most RIVAL springers, and the build quality is that typical Nerf “premium” we expect. The Sideswipe’s grip is actually quite comfortable and its unique ergonomics actually work in its favor to make it easy to hold and move around. While the Sideswipe lacks and tactical rails, it has an integrated hard sight and the smooth lines make it rather pleasing to look at compared to the more “industrial” RIVAL blasters.

I would be remiss not to speak on the core feature of the Curve Shot blasters, that being the adjustable barrel to allow shots to “arc” around corners. By simply twisting the barrel left or right you can make the Sideswipe’s shots curve slightly in either direction. This feature works reasonably well, though admittedly this is something you can do with most RIVAL blasters by simply tipping them to the side, though the feasibility of doing so varies widely. Aside from this fun feature, the Sideswipe has traditionally solid RIVAL performance, with decent accuracy and power. Its internal magazine can hold 12 rounds, and is easy to reload via an access port on the left side.

Overall, the Sideswipe is a very decent offering for the price with some fun play potential, though it’s a bit large for what it offers and so is probably not a great pick for the competitive Nerfer.

The media could not be loaded.

Many reviews on this product seem to be claiming the blaster is frequently jamming, or not working as expected. That has not happened for me though. The blaster sounds a bit grittier when shooting than I think it’s supposed to, but that’s it. I had a few jams but this blaster has a fairly high for risk of user error. And even when a jam isn’t my fault, it is still a very easy fix.

The blaster shoots hard and the accuracy is good; I hit what I’m aiming at from 15-30 feet. The curve feature shoots as expected. You definitely won’t be shooting around 90 degree corners, but it’s still a neat feature.

I can’t recommend this product as a gift, or even for yourself, because it seems I’m in the minority with my blaster functioning. Additionally, it takes a little force to prime the blaster, so it may not be suitable for very young people.

Keep in mind my phone’s mic picks up a lot of noise, and the product doesn’t sound this ‘plasticky’ in real life.

This thing has yet to successfully fire a single ball. Jammed on my daughter the very first try and every single time afterwards. Good thing I got it while on sale at $12.99, otherwise I would actually care. My point; Don’t make the same mistake as I have, get something better.

I bought this to have some fun with my pets. Thought I could shoot the ball across the room and they would chase it. I had this thing all of 5 minutes and I knew it was junk. Couldn’t get the thing primed and then when it did, the ball barely shot out. I should have realized what I got when even after Prime Day it was half price.

Super powered nerf gun. Unfortunately the curve feature doesn’t work very well which is disappointing. 8 year old still loves it. It is hard for him to prep the gun for fire.

My son loves it. It doesn’t curve as much as you think it would. But great Rival to the collection.

it arrived slightly damaged. kept on jamming and not firing. checked the nozzle at the end of the gun and it was slightly bent to the left like something put pressure on it. slightly unscrewed the screws and realligned the barrel and all was good. fires everytime without fail. the curve is pretty cool. definitely was worth getting when its on sale but shouldnt have to do any repairs to a new nerf gun. so if you have one that keeps jamming check that the barrel is completely aligned

Este blaster es bastante bueno para el precio que pagas además que es ergonómico, tiene buen material de construcción y es muy divertido poder tirar las bolas curvas en un gran rango, feliz por la adquisición.
