If you are wanting a professional grade tablet, Microsoft Surface Pro’s have almost always been the best way to go. And the SP8 is by far the best one yet for several key reasons:
– USB-C ports and charging
– smaller bezels
– 11th gen Intel processors and iGPU
– Thunderbolt 3 which makes this the first “expandable” SP
– replaceable NVMe SSD
So, why only 4 stars?
Surface Pro’s are (in my subjective opinion) close to being perfect as a professional device. However, there are a couple factors common to all SPs (and one new one) that keep them from being a complete no-brainer:
– value. Surface Pro’s have always been a little pricy for the hardware you get. This is justified by the tight form factor, but is a point to consider.
– Durability. It’s an expensive, very non-rugged tablet… you will need to protect it so that it can live a full life.
– non-replaceable memory. Having a replaceable SSD is a great start, but just shows that Microsoft could make memory upgradeable as well of they really wanted to. This would help with the Value points as well, but would likely cut into MS’s profit on the high end.
– Windows 11. Having tried out W11 for the last few months, I am not a fan. It continues Microsoft’s trend of deciding they know better than me on how to admin my own systems that *I* own. Many of these make sense as OoB defaults, but Microsoft has also continued the trend of removing the ability to change these configurations to what makes sense to the owner. That makes ANY computer running W11 (specifically the Surface Pro 8 in this case) feel a little less professional on my subjective opinion.

I really like this device. I had the surface Pro 6 before I upgraded. This new device is superior in every way, its faster, the screen is so much better, the battery life is good for a surface device. Not all day good but good enough for a windows device. LOL the 120 hertz screen is butter. “taxes the battery though” If you’re thinking about getting this computer, pick up the keyboard because it’s not at it’s best without it.

Wanted to get a pc for editing and some minor gaming. This is flawless and if you’ve never had a surface before every thing is an “awe” moment. I absolutely love it and is a very portable pc.

Love this more than my iPad Pro. Can do everything a laptop can do. Lightweight and the features are great. It’s a learning curve for me but so worth it. I was hesitant at first because I’m such an advocate for Apple but this product helped me overcome that and so happy with my decision.

As a digital illustrator I decided to give this new Surface Pro a try after hearing Microsoft improved the pen input on this device. I went with the lower spec configuration, although now I’m wishing I could have gotten a mid or higher spec model instead. However this entry level tablet has performed fantastically well since i grabbed it about a month ago. The slim pen 2 is wonderful to use now, it’s not and it doesn’t feel Wacom quality yet, but it is a joy to use for digital drawing and illustration. The pen feels different, similar to the differences amongst media in traditional arts. This is completely subjective and personal matter; but I’d say that in my hands Wacom pens give me the feeling of a pencil on paper, while the new Slim Pen 2 feels like handling professional markers in the line of Copic. It’s definitely different but in a good way, great job Microsoft! I’m very happy to add this powerful tablet to my work flow. Tried it with all major professional suits and apps on the market, Adobe Ps, Ai, Sketchbook Pro, Krita, Rebelle, Sai, and more. The Slim Pen 2 performed like a champ in all of them. The Surface Pro 8 with the Slim Pen 2 surpassed my expectations since it’s a full fledged computer that runs circles around the iPad Pro and its limitations, no more compromises for professional artists or students. 100% recommended for digital arts and note taking.

Awesome improvement over the Surface pro 7 and X. I purchase all the IT for our company and decided to give this a try to start replacing our surface pro X that we had nothing but issues with. Its light weight even with keyboard and pen compared to the 7 and works a heck of a lot better than the X since the X emulates 64 bit apps.

this is my 5th Surface Pro and good job Microsoft you did it again. I purchased the i5 with 8Ram model and i was worried if the performance wouldn’t be very reliable but so far so good, i am happy. 120hz screen, rounded corners, bigger screens are what i like the most. battery life can be good if you choose dark mode and low screen brightness however i dont see huge improvement from the last version. my old hp spectre had oled 4k screen however surface pro 8 doesnt make me miss my oled screen, i think its still a great dense screen resolution. yes it is pricey but just like everything else prices went up.

I am slightly disappointed. My job requires me to be on the road for meetings most of my day, and during my conversation with the sales representative, he confirmed that the battery lasts for ten straight working hours, which was the main selling point for me. Come to find out, as you can see in the picture, that only after one hour, the battery lost 20%. That means the battery can only support 4 hours of working. Not to mention that when I put it on standby and moved from one location to another, the battery was not effectively on standby but instead drained. Mind you; I made sure to put it on standby mood and I only use this laptop for work purposes like Asana, Slack, documents, with very little use of YouTube or listening to music.
