HMM, I owned a 5200 black model from about 7 years ago. My ex still has it and so I bought this one from amazon. I have only used it once so far and so I will update this post after a few more uses, but I must say something is different. Runs fine, but I’m concerned that something has changed as I remember my other unit being more powerful than this. In addition, the turn dial is definetly a different component as it is not nearly as smooth. It tends to feel slightly restrictive and the workmanship is absolutely not the same as I remember. My old unit dial rolled smoothly and just the correct amount of resistance. I am unaware if all 5200 are the same, or possibly year made, but someone at Vitamix may know of a parts supplier or change and everyone might have the finger to the chin going oops.

So again, ill update shortly after I have blended a few more things, but hopefully Vitamix is going for quality and be happy with current profits, cutting costs may have unintended consequences and open door for competitors to further expand this category. So maybe someone from Vitamix has some answers for future purchasers, but at this price point I am a little concerned. I posted a picture so people don’t think I’m just some critic. I’d give it a 3 or 4 star if the price was $150.00 cheaper to compensate for the cheaper components, which I assume is what the leadership team at Vitamix thought was best. And if Vitamix differs, then they better address their Quality Control department. Cause I’d bet it’s one of the two.

The media could not be loaded.

I was very excited to get my first Vitamix, especially since this is the 5200. Incredibly disappointed when washing the container to use it for the first time that water started dripping out of the bottom. See video.

Had to return it as there’s no fix for this, according to Vitamix. I reached out to Vitamix via their Facebook page and they wanted to help but it was easier just to return it to Amazon.

This isn’t just a blender. That’s what you have to tell yourself to actually spend the money on one of these things. I know there is that age old debate about Vitamix vs Blendtech but I’ve never tried a Blendtech because our Vitamix has been a work horse for years of daily use and still keeps going! It’s what my parents had, it’s what everyone in my family has and they all love it as much as we do. I guess it’s kinda like Ford vs Chevy. 😉

Anyway, I’m going to make this short and sweet. Our 3 year old son has autism and severe sensory issues making him the pickiest eater on the face of the planet. That being said, he will drink just about anything we put in his cup as long as it passes the look, smell and texture tests. If it weren’t for the Vitamix I don’t know how we would’ve fed our child and made sure he got the protein, fresh fruits and vegetables etc. that his little growing mind and body need. We can sneak ANYTHING into his smoothies and he has no idea because the Vitamix works so incredibly well at blending everything flawlessly. No chunks, no pulp, no fuss! Smooth and creamy and delicious no matter what we throw in there!

Not only do we use this every day for his “dinner”, but I use it every day for my green smoothies and my husband uses it for his protein shakes. This thing has taken a lot of abuse and gets a pretty intense daily work out of frozen fruits and ice cubes etc. and it still works like it did when we bought it FIVE YEARS AGO. We haven’t had to replace parts or have any maintenance done. Just regular cleaning and care. Boom. This is so much more than a blender, it’s a way of life.

I bought 3 of the Vitamix 5200, one work wonder and I love it, even though super expensive but worth it, however, one operates like a charm but the other one makes a very funny noise and also looks like motor hesitates to strut running at the beginning where as the other one is absolutely perfect (for now tgat is) as I only had them for a few weeks but will rewrite review after few months. For now I love the one that doesn’t make funny noise and do recommend it to anyone wanting a good quality mixer for home use or even proffesional use.

Now the 3rd one which I bought about 3 weeks ago and used it to make cold sauces it worked pretty good for a few weeks then started the same nasty noise when running at half speed like the second machine did but now this one also started smelling like burnt wire which scared me wondering if it’s safe to use it.

Out of 3 of these mixers 2 had issues but one was and still is working great after several moths, this shows QC isn’t the fist priority with Vitamix or perhaps they’re just going with cheaper parts to save cost but the forgetting quality will go down at the same time, in any case I’m not sure if I’ll buy another one, maybe next mixer will be a different brand even if more expensive!

It seems to have a powerful motor but I do not like the plastic container. I had the blender only for a few months and the inside of the container is already scratched without having processed ice or any other hard items. Very disappointing. I will not purchase an expensive item like this blender online again. Professional container? I don’t think so!

The motor is so unbalanced, the blender walks across my kitchen counter. Way too loud at full power. A faint electrical burning smell comes out of the blender when used. The power cord retention system seems like it was designed in the 60’s. It works, but barely and poorly.

I’m getting rid of this and going back to a Breville hemisphere control.

    I love this blender!

My old blender was a very good Cuisinart one but it struggled with my smoothies. I would slice up all the hard stuff for it, like carrots, ginger root, etc. I also throw frozen things into my smoothies like frozen bananas, blueberries or strawberries. The old blender would work hard, you could hear it. I was afraid that it would eventually burn out plus the smoothies came out with little chunks of the harder vegetables in them.

With this Vitamin I do not even have to cut things up much at all. I will maybe break a carrot in half but I can just toss in a chunk of ginger, add any other fruit and vegetables including a hunk of lime with the skin on and ramp this blender up. I start on low, turn the dial up and then hit the lever for max. It sounds almost like a jet engine starting up, much quieter of course, but with that kind of power. The smoothie comes out silkie smooth and the blender does not struggle at all. It is a beautiful and delicious thing. As a plus this blender will even heat up stuff you put in it from friction so you can make soups.

I chose this model with the tall thin container because I saw tests that showed the shorter wider containers in all blenders caused a lot more turbulence and thus incorporated more air causing the smoothie texture to be a bit less palatable. The only issue for some (and I already knew this so was prepared) is that the blender will probably not fit on the counter under an upper cabinet. I just store it with the container beside the motor.

We don’t know if this was an “undocumented refurb” or not, but it broke within 2 months of receipt! Perfect timing for them, not so good for us.

Exploded on my newborn granddaughter! Absolutely unbelievable! My daughter in law was holding my 1-week old granddaughter in a front pouch and was making a smoothie with Raspberries, blackberries, beets, blueberries, spinach and kefir. After successfully blending those ingredients and drinking half a glass, she decided it wasn’t sweet enough so she tossed in a chopped apple to sweeten it up. While blending the apple, the unit suddenly exploded a shard out the bottom of the pitcher! I’m not talking about an explosion out the top (like what happens when you leave the lid off). I’m talking about a one-inch shard of the unit itself suddenly blowing out. It was such an explosive force that the red juice flew more than 10 feet and covered almost every inch of my kitchen.

Comes with US plug and required 120V. Emailed producer, who said that they themselves do not sell US products to outside the US and strongly recommend against using a down-stepper transformer. DO NOT try connecting it directly without a transformer either as this would fry the device

I’ve never owned a blender this powerful before. It is everything the Vitamix brand promises. It can do anything! I’ve made nut butters, nut milk, the base for nice cream, smoothies, blended soups to a beautiful silky texture, dressings and fresh fruit jams. I love this blender and all that it can do. I know there are reviews of the machine being noisy, but I don’t find the sound to be an issue at all. The blender sounds like a high powered blender should sound. This blender is well worth the investment.
