I have been buying this product for 5 years – it is a very good supplement. the reason I am giving this one star is because the price is outrageous. Looking at my order history I started out paying $18 for 60 capsules. Last month I paid $30, now it is up to $38.00. That’s it for me – going with another product.

I have searched high and low for the best vegan Omega-3 supplement. This is it. It is not cheap, but for about the same price as competitors, it delivers more EPA/DHA, in some cases, much more. This product gets dings in Amazon and other reviews for two reasons:
1) It uses Life’s Omega as the main ingredient. It has been alleged that Life’s Omega uses chemicals (hexane or isopropyl alcohol) to extract the omegas from algae. After looking into this carefully, I found that if it was ever the case that chemicals were used, it is not the case now. So I feel confident in recommending this product.
2) It uses carrageenan in the capsule. Again, after researching this, I think the blowback on carrageenan is overblown–it is not a carcinogen as has been alleged. It *may* cause gut discomfort, but in truth, I have the most sensitive gut of anyone I know and I do not have any issues with consuming the capsules. So again, I feel confident in recommending this product.
I like this product for another reason–I never have to be concerned about which fish/krill/mollusk or which ocean the omegas come from, whether those creatures are contaminated and whether the contamination has been *completely* removed. One less thing to worry about.

DHA amount has been lowered. As of 6/29/2016, the product label on the website is no longer accurate. the product now contains only 270 mg of DHA and 135 mg of EPA

The most disturbing thing about this item is the ingredient Carregenan. A substance that is banned in Europe due to its Carcinogenic abilities. Why these companies continue to use it in their products with all the data out on it is confounding. You would think a Vegan product would avoid it but it doesnt.

Well my doctor was concerned about my cholesterol and suggested I read a book called “How not to die”. Yeah really, catchy name and in it, it suggests taking an Omega 3 supplement that is not made of fish oil but plant-based. This was to avoid all the pollutants that the fish based supplement could have. On top of that, the no-fishy aftertaste had a certain appeal. I don’t like to burp fish I didn’t eat..
I looked this one up in the local grocery store and afterwards, have bought them via Amazon 2 times. So that it is about 150 pills overall. Yeah, they are expensive (most of things in this category are).
The first batch of these were purchased locally and fine and then the first Amazon batch was fine too. Ran through them and bought another batch, before the other was completely gone so they sat on the shelf for a week or two longer than I planned. (Purchased in April, nearly done of bottle in June) So they did not sit around long.
I’m about 15 pills from finishing the bottle and an overwhelming fishy smell and taste hits me when I try to take the rest. What is going on? I was trying to avoid this and be healthy to boot. Expiration date on the bottle is 01/2021. So it’s not out of date.
Lot number is 19043R3E2. I saw another person complained about this same issue.
Is it contamination? If Algal Oil smelled fishy, I would have detected it in the prior two bottles. Are the pills contaminated?
The ingredients listed on the bottle are:
**** Algal Oil (which contains high oleic sunflower oleic sunflower oil, rosemary extract, antioxidants [tocopherols and ascorbyl palmitate])
**** Corn starch
**** Glycerin (from palm oil)
**** Sorbitol
**** Carrageenan
**** Purified water
**** Beta Carotene
**** Caramel color
The key numbers are
Omega 3- fatty acids from Algal Oil—————-500mg
DHA (docosahexaenoic acid)————————270mg
EPA (eicosapentaenoic acid)———————–135mg
So the bottom line to me is, I’m now not likely to buy this brand again. If this happens and I have to discard, half the bottle, that’s not acceptable.

I have been using this high quality product for a year now. Seemed I ran out sooner than I should. Actual pill count in the last 3 bottles of 60 count capsules: 54, 52 and 53 I went to manufacturer website. Used their online form (the only contact method they offer) to give them this information. I received no reply. These are way too expensive as it is. Vendor is great but the manufacturer is ripping us all off.
