I have been using the older version of this for a long time and I loved it. I just tried the new one in my usual smoothie and I took three sips before giving up and pouring it out. The new taste is AWFUL! So now I have a huge expensive tub of protein powder that I can’t drink without gagging. I don’t know why they needed to change the formula, but it has completely ruined the product for me.

This, “Organic Plant Protein Blend” in Vanilla flavor from Amazing Grass is about as I expected based on it’s listing here. I’ve used often certain, “Greens” drinks from Amazing Grass and always have been fine with their product, ingredients, quality, however their Plant Protein products are new to me. The flavor is “Vanilla”, but I find this Vanilla flavoring to be a bit lighter than other Vanilla flavored protein powders I’ve also used. When mixing this powder alone with water, I find it no problem to mix in a shaker cup. It’s a little bit gritty in texture, but that is normal for Plant Protein drinks. There is a Vanilla flavor, though it’s light, it’s not a very strong Vanilla flavor.
The supplement Facts reads that each serving is 1 scoop (37g) and one should get 20 servings per container, and with each serving 20g of protein. The ingredients are simple, and this protein powder includes many various types of proteins. The ingredients in the Protein Blend are:– Pea Protein– Brown Rice Protein– Hemp Protein– Quinoa protein
All of the ingredients after that are all sorts of various Greens, Fruits, and Vegetable powders. I’ve included a photo of the label on this jar that lists all of the ingredients.
There is a scoop enclosed in the container, however powders tend to settle, so I just weigh out the amount of powder I want. You have to decide how much water you want to use, there is a suggested serving of 37g of powder which provides 20g of protein, but myself, I sometimes prefer a bit less per serving when I want to spread out the Protein throughout the day. I’ve used the full 37g scoop with 12oz water, as recommended on the label, and I had no issue mixing it in a shaker cup. The powder is fine, and mixes well. The taste is pretty good, it’s a vanilla taste that is not heavy, but light. The mixed protein drink did have a bit of a light chalky texture, but not much, and nothing unexpected from a plant-based protein powder.
Overall, this protein mix tastes good, is easy to drink, my stomach handles it fine.

Of all the flavors they have available for the Organic Plant Protein blend, this is my second favorite flavor. The vanilla flavor has less calories than the chocolate or chocolate peanut butter flavors. This is a mix for a nutrition shake like boost or ensure, but instead of being full of synthetic chemicals and other junk, this is all natural. It’t also vegan which I am trying to be at the moment, I am much more of a vegetarian but I am really trying to crossover to being full vegan. I think that if we can get our protein without consuming animal products, then why not? I know that flys in the face of conventional American culture, but I honestly don’t care. I think it’s better for us, better for the planet, and definitely better for the animals. Win, win, win, as far as I’m concerned.
The protein in this mix comes from peas, brown rice, hemp, and quinoa. There is also 2 cups of fruits and vegetables in each serving. It contains a number of different greens. I really am becoming addicted to this product, it’s delicious and it’s healthy. I have been having one of these shakes every morning for several weeks now, mixed with almond milk. You can use water too if you want, but I think it’s better is soy, almond, or even coconut milk. It works great in smoothies too if you want to add some additional fruit or maybe even yogurt if you’re not vegan. This is the perfect way to start off your morning by giving your body something nutritious but still quite tasty. It is expensive, but I plan on buying more when my supply runs out.

Used to love this. Had it in a smoothie everyday. But the flavor changed and now it is sickeningly sweet.

I’m on a weight loss program and have an allowance for some added protein and a few servings of fruit every day. I’ve been making smoothies with Amazing Grass Organic Plant Protein Blend (Vanilla) and organic frozen berries and bananas. I like the taste and texture best if I add yogurt and/or nonfat milk as a base, but I’m mostly using water or a mix of water and a little yogurt to keep calories down.
I have no issue getting enough protein as I can always eat egg whites, tofu, lean meat, etc. But I feel satisfied drinking a smoothie with this powder as the protein tides me over, and I like that I’m getting in my fruit, some hydration and hopefully some nutrients from the added fruit and vegetable blend. This is also easy for me to digest. I enjoy this protein powder enough to use it daily, but I won’t for the two reasons noted in my last paragraph.
I do find this has a strong stevia aftertaste. I don’t mind it, but those adverse to that stevia taste may not like this powder (though they might be able to add a lot of stuff to hide the taste). Also, the powder is a little gritty even blended. That doesn’t bother me, especially since my smoothies also have texture from berry seeds. I find the grit less noticeable when blended with milk and yogurt instead of water.
I do dislike two things. First, this has added iron. That’s great if you need it, but unnecessary iron can have negative health consequences (especially for kids) and it’s been confirmed by blood test that I don’t need it. Second, Amazing Grass won’t disclose the amount of heavy metals in the powder. That concerns me as studies have found levels I’m not comfortable with in popular plant-based protein powders. I enjoy this powder, but I don’t even know if it’s healthy and will use it in moderation only. 3.5 stars.

I bought this newer version of the product thinking real vanilla but unfortunately they added stevia. I don’t like any artificial sweetness added as they give me a headache for some reason. It is a great product but I hope they continue to make the older (less expensive) version because it does not have an after taste.
