I shouldn’t give even one star. I never had a chance to use this product until after the return window was closed due to covid and no work. Each battery didn’t last 2 minutes. Put them on the charger, it said they were fully charged. A friend took my batteries and charger to try, (he works in a different industry) he found out the charger was faulty. Dewalt would not stand up for thier product so it is the last time I will buy thier products. I hadn’t used them before, thought I would try it. Bought the grease gun, 2 batteries, charger and thier bag. It’s useless unless I purchase another charge. As it turns out the Milwaukee 12v grease gun I had been using for over 5 years only had a glitch and started working again. I’ve been using it since. I highly recommend Milwaukee tools.

I purchased this kit on 1 July 29, and both batteries were fully charged. When I tried to recharge them after a few hours use, neither battery would take a charge. I contacted DeWalt and was told to ship them to a return/repair center, which after two weeks verified both were defective and shipped me two new ones, which arrived charged. One of these failed to take a charge after it was used for a little over an hour, however, and the other charges but then goes dead in about 45 minutes. I own 10 NiCad-powered Dewalt tools and 7 corded DeWalt tools, never had a battery problem with the NiCads, some of which are over 10 years old. DeWalt basically has a disaster on their hands with this NiCad fiasco, people are reporting it all over the internet.

For those of you who are reading the reviews with less than five stars, I just want to let you know that this is the real deal. These are packaged in DeWalt factory packaging, these are not knockoffs. Those who say they don’t fit the tools like the original batteries, need to realize that putting a new battery on an old tool is not going to fit the same as an old battery on an old tool. Also, those who say they don’t fit right in the chargers, need to realize that these batteries are designed to snap into the chargers. Not snapping them into the charger will cause the indicator light to show a false full charge. Trust the DeWalt quality, you won’t be disappointed.

Check the most recent reviews – all are one star, all report the same defect. I returned for a new unit to confirm, both arrived defective. The battery out of the box will not charge past one green led (full is three) – battery lasts at most 5 minutes in a tool and then will not recharge at all – unclear if the defect is the charger, or the battery, or both, but all lots appear to be defective. Shame on you DeWalt – where is your quality control?

I purchased these batteries in early March. I’m just a do it yourself’r so don’t use my cordless drill that often. The charge that came on the batteries got me through for a while, up until a project I was working on this weekend (5/23/20). I used an entire battery, put it on the charger and went back to work on my project. When that battery died I went to get the one off the charger. It was completely dead. It had been charging for 8 hours. I charged the one I had just used, for eight hours, and it too was completely dead. I used a cord drill to finish my project while continuing to try and charge the brand new batteries. They will not charge, at all. $140 for the amount of charge that was on it when it shipped is not a good value. I now find I only had 30 days to return them. If I used them for my job I would have noticed they don’t charge, but a do it yourself’r will likely not notice in 30 days. DO NOT PURCHASE THESE BATTERIES.

figured out you have to push battery in charger till it clicks, to get it to charge. instructions don’t say anything about that. but they do say it will only charge battery when its between 65deg to 75 deg. only a 10 deg window where it will work. this will make it hard to use in the field,,,,,,

    *** Update 11/21/2018***
Received a new set the other day, and these work. May be related to a tip somene left me in the comments. These batteries need to click in firmly to the charger. The older, smaller ones I have just slide in without any positive click. Anyway I’d say loading the batteries in the charger is not the smoothest it could be, but if you pay attention and make sure they fully engage the charger they should work. That said, raising my rating to 4 stars. Looses one start because the new batteries definitely mount in the charger differently from the old ones, and it is not obvious if you are used to the way other ones loosely attach.

Like several other recent reviews, the two batteries I received would not charge. I have a second charger that I got with a previous tool, and that I know works, but it will not charge either battery either. The batteries both came with just 1 (out of 3) LED charge level. After 12 hrs on the chargers, no change. The charger light indicates the battery is fully charged almost immediately. Tested one battery, by fully discharging it on a flashlight, now the charger doesn’t even see it when plugged in. Returning it and will wait a month or so, to see if they fix the problems, before i order another set.

I had a similar experience to several other reviewers with recharging these batteries. More on that in a bit. The batteries charge fast (empty to full in about 90 minutes) and keep my circular saw running for a long time. No complaints there.

I take away one star because of a bit of a design flaw. When inserting the battery into the charger, the charge light on the charger comes on before the battery is fully seated. After a second or two, the charger indicates the battery is fully charged, even though in reality it is not charging at all. This can make it seem that the battery is faulty and won’t take a charge. Many others have reported this same issue. The solution is to put a bit more force on the battery when inserting it into the charger, until you feel it “click” and fully seat. Then it works as designed.

In summary, great batteries and charger as long as you make sure the battery is fully seated in the charger.

I just opened the box and the batteries will not charge. Charger does not blink like it is supposed to.
