I had a ton of Transformers as a kid in the 80s and my mom saved a few. My 4 year old son likes to play with them but often needs help moving the 30 year old joints into place. I figured he’d like having his own new Transformer and that he might be able to do this one on his own.
This tow truck Transformer came in a frustration free brown box. I appreciated that it was easy to open and didn’t have a ton of plastic packaging but it could make it harder to gift because it’s not in a shiny retail box. The truck is a good size – maybe slightly larger than my classic Transformers and about right for little hands. It has sort of a blocky hollow plastic feel which isn’t great but it feels sturdy enough too. The tow arm and hook move which is cool but it’s a little too short to actually be able to hook up and pull another car.
The truck rolls along nicely and then transforms into a robot with a tough pose. There are about 3 moves needed to transform from truck to robot: the legs come down, the arms come out, and then the head flips up. My son showed me after a day that he had figured out how to do it, which makes me think he’ll enjoy changing it back and forth since he can do it on his own and the parts don’t get stuck much. The robot head doesn’t stay in place as well as I’d like but it’s pretty minor.
As an adult I kind of prefer the old school transformers that were metal and plastic, felt more solid, and more complex transformations, and extras like flip open parts or missiles that would fire or weapons you could clip on. For kids in the 3-7 range though, there’s something to be said for these basic transformers that are less fiddly, can be done without help, will survive some abuse and trips to the bathtub etc. Pretty cool!

I really like these transformers. They are great quality and perfect for my 4 year old. They are easy to work with and figure out and my son loves them. He has a whole bunch of them. I much prefer these ones from the ones i bought at Toys R us. These are much better quality and sturdy and have not broken yet and he got the 8 months ago. The other transformers that I bought from Toys R us broken within a month or so and he never could figure out how to put them back and forth.

The toy is small for $15. It transforms pretty cool so I think my 4 year old nephew will enjoy it. I wouldn’t purchase this for a kid older than 5 years.

The first one we ordered got lost in the mail. Amazon quickly sent a replacement! My grandson loves these! He is three years old and needs all the Rescue Bits he says! Haha! The Amazon Exclusive ones are bigger then the regular ones, so I think we have all of them now. He says these are the big robots! I would definitely recommend these! They are a one to two step transformation, and that is all! It is perfect for his age!

My 3.5 year old’s rescue bot collection is nearly complete… partially due to my own interest in playing along with them. In my son’s eyes he likes them all… the newest one he likes most. Here is a list of the order of my favorites and why:
1. Blades – blades is the only one that has a moving object (propeller) and also is the only non-ground bot, so it’s fun to have him a part of any collection to change things up. He’s also very easy to transform and his transformation looks good. 2. Heatwave – this was the first one we bought and was a great one to start off with. The way the ladder pulls up to transform is very creative and cool. fire engines are cool and a must for rescuing, so Blades and Heatwave together are really all that’s needed to make the perfect rescue. His transformability can be difficult for a young one because the arms don’t always want to stay down without holding them both down at once. 3. Hoist – when heatwave pops a tire or gets stuck it’s nice to have hoist around to pull him out of trouble. Hoist also looks pretty bad-ass and bulky as a robot. His tranformability is similar to Heatwave. 4. Medic – medic is the only one that has a button that activates the transformation. I think as a robot he looks pretty silly, but he’s useful to have when someone gets hurt 5. Chase – not always able to incorporate him in our playing. My son really wanted him, but after getting him he didn’t get a whole lot of time with him like he did with the others. 6. Boulder – super easy to transform, which makes it kind of boring but good for a 2 year old. He doesn’t really help out much except for pushing things off our coffee table that I keep telling my son to leave alone.
* Dinobot – my son just got the Heatwave dinobot for xmas. It doesn’t transform, but my son loves it. It makes noise, which is pretty darn annoying, but it sure entertains him. I didn’t think it would be as fun due to not transforming, but it’s fun to use as an accessory to our missions.
All in all, every one of these are made very well, will last through lots of toddler abuse, fun to take in the bath, and are entertaining.

The Rescue Bots are definitely a favorite with the grandkids. They watch the movies over and over. I have purchased all of the different transformers and will leave the same review for all of them. There is definitely a favorite Rescue Bot and that is surprisingly the Fire Truck Heat Wave. With that being said, they have enjoyed ALL of them and it seems you need all of them (according to the kids anyway!). These are easily transformed by the little ones 2 years old and up. Usually transforms in about two or three moves. These transformers are by far the ” most played with toy” at Grandma’s. Make sure when you purchase these that they include the “blue crystal weapon” as shown (and they are all different weapons depending on the Hero). The ones with the “blue crystal weapon” are a good size and well made. Some others don’t transform and are tiny when you get them. I make purchases on Amazon ONLY after reading reviews… so I hope this review helps.
