I sent this back the very next day. I wanted another cat after losing my last one, but hubby wasn’t keen. After many discussions and lots of tears I looked for a realistic cat toy instead. This came and I was really excited, all the reviews were brilliant and I thought it was the answer. Unfortunately it wasn’t. The meow is too loud and frequent for a real cat and the purr is ok but a bit like a motor running. However when put on mute (so no meow but still purring) it was better. The main thing for me was the clunky noises each time the cat moved and the gaps in the fur (neckline, ears etc where you could feel the mechanics of the cat. Not for me I’m afraid, it didn’t feel worth the money. Another layer of something over the mechanism and leather paw pads and nose could add to the realism. I’m very disappointed as I’m still searching for a solution to my problem.

The media could not be loaded.
We saw this cat advertised on Breakfast TV and instantly thought it’d be a great birthday present for our 93year old Mum.
Even though we thought this cat would be good for Mum, we were also prepared for it to be rejected.
What we weren’t expecting was the delight and instant connection she made with her new companion. Her joy and the smile on her face told us we had just given her the best present she could have had on her 93rd birthday.
Its been 3 weeks now and the cat is still getting more attention than anyone. Mum loves it and is very protective over it.
I highly recommend this product, it was money well spent.
I do agree with other customer comments that the mechanical noise when the cat moves might put some people off.
BUT…. I am so pleased I made this purchase. If I had listened to the negative comments my Mum would never have met her “Purrfect” companion 🙂

First of all the product arrived with the box completely open which I put down to the sorting office as I am told this has happened before. However, the cat is not at all life like, feels like a hard shell instead of soft and cuddly and only does 4 things. For the money it is a completely overpriced in my opinion as I expected much more. A friend had one which was way better than this one and nobody in the household thought much of it; that includes 2 dogs, 1 cat and 3 young children. While it may be useful for those suffering with dementia the price may be restrictive for those with a disability. Further the electronic whirring and clicking of the device is loud and irritating. I would NOT recommend.

I purchased this as an emotional support companion after I lost my wife of 23 years to suicide. I was so looking forward to receiving it, and told everyone I knew that I was getting it. When it finally arrived; I have to admit that I was very letdown, and unimpressed. I was actually sad, as I was expecting it to alleviate some of my loneliness and depression over my wife’s death.
Whoever invented this, had a great idea. I’m sure that it would be of benefit to those suffering memory issues or other types of dementia. Perhaps since that’s their target buyer; I should have passed on my purchase.
At any rate, the problem that I found with the cat, is that it isn’t lifelike. The meow is way too loud and nonadjustable. The head movements are very mechanical, and totally unrealistic. The purring doesn’t sound like the purr from a real cat, and all of the various motions are ruined, as you can clearly hear the sound of a small motor while the motions are made.
The bottom line, at least from my viewpoint, is that this is a fantastic invention, but it’s poorly executed. I returned mine, and purchased several stuffed animals to make the agonizing loss of my wife a little easier to bear. The stuffed animals, one of which is a full sized labrador retriever, have been of some help. Although I know that they’re not real; they provide me with a small degree of comfort, which is better than nothing, while I try to go on after my devastating loss.

My family recently had to place my mom in a nursing home for long term care. It was an incredibly difficult and painful decision to make. She has dementia and my 88 year old father could no longer care for her. We worried about the time she would spend there when no one was visiting or during the periods of time with no activities. Because of his, I got her a joy for all cat. She has always been a nurturer, as a mother and grandmother, and has also loved animals. I am happy to say that this was one of the best purchases I have ever made. She enjoys petting the cat and the reactions she gets from her touch. It is truly remarkable what this cat can do. It is very lifelike and although my mother knows it isn’t real she enjoys it nonetheless. The nurses and CNAs are all enamoured with her cat as well! She is the most popular resident on the floor! The ‘toy’ appeals to all ages. My 10 year old niece spent time visiting with my mom and her cat. The interaction they shared was very special and allowed my niece an opportunity to connect with my mom. After taking my mother back to the nursing home after Thanksgiving dinner, she was reluctant to be there as we entered her room. Thank goodness for the cat, which redirected her thoughts and allowed her to settle in calmly. I am so thankful for this companion for my mom!

I bought my first orange tabby cat on November 18. It was a huge hit with my 89 year old father-in-law — he has dementia, and in recent months has been pulling further into his figurative shell. He LOVES the cat. He believes it is real, talks to it, laughs with it, pets it, interacts with it. His mood has improved dramatically, and he is more alert. This cat is a FIVE STAR concept and a FIVE STAR addition to the lives of older people (& their caregivers).
However, the product is ONE STAR in terms of reliability. My FIL loved it so much he broke it. We think he held the head too tightly, and ultimately the servos broke. The cat still meows and purrs, but it no longer rolls onto its back and the eyes no longer open. The heartbreaking thing is now my FIL asks the kitty why she isn’t opening her eyes.
Dear Hasbro Product Managers: keep it simpler. The cat doesn’t need to roll onto its back for a tummy rub. The meowing, purring, and eyes/mouth movements probably solve 90% of the “real” factor, and are less prone to breaking.
As a side comment, I now face a very real problem: my FIL loves this cat. There is no vet I can take it to. Instead, I’ve bought a replacement cat. Yes, you read that right, I’ve bought 2 $100 robo-cats in less than one month because this kitty is bringing very real joy to my FIL, and some much needed relief to his round-the-clock caregivers. The value per hour is astronomical, and this cat pays for itself many times over. That said, Hasbro would be wise to figure out how they’re going to handle replacements/repairs/breakage.
At any rate, I look forward to further improvements in this product line. And hopefully I won’t have to buy a baker’s dozen before we get there…

My mother wanted a real cat, but as she has dementia she wouldn’t be able to look after one. This comes a close second. To me his face isn’t very realistic and his coat is a bit harsh and he feels a bit bony. Also, he clicks and whirrs a bit. However,my mother adores him and strokes him a lot. His actions and voice are realistic and sometimes he miaows or yawns even when you are not near to him, which makes him seem even more realistic. I am so glad I bought him for her and would recommend him for dementia sufferers or elderly who are lonely.

Got this for my 93 year old mother who is suffering from dementia, and OH MY GOD SHE ABSOLUTELY LOVES IT! It has been the most heartwarming thing to see her interacting with this cat, which she completely thinks is real. This thing has given her so much comfort that I felt compelled to write this review to encourage anyone with a loved one suffering from dementia to get one of these. They will love it. For the amount of comfort it is giving my mom, it was well worth the price.
Other reviews that say it seems mechanical and the meow sounds fake, etc… are pretty comical in my opinion. Of course it’s fake, it’s a freaking mechanical cat, not a real one, what do you expect? At least in my Mom’s case, and apparently for many others with dementia, they think it’s real, and that’s all that matters if that is your purpose with this purchase. And if you’re buying this for yourself, well then you are getting what you pay for, a mechanical cat. Plenty of real cats waiting for adoption if you want a real one. And for my purposes, if it breaks, I would just buy another one, since $100 bucks is a drop in the bucket compared to other medical costs, especially for the happiness this thing brings.
So give it 5 out of 5 stars, but I listed it in the 1 star category for other folks out there like me that tend to only read the bad reviews.

My 88 year old mum, who has moderate Alzheimer’s, absolutely loves this cat, and really enjoys stroking it to make it purr and miaow. She insists that all visitors say hello to it. Everyone else considers it rather creepy, with its glassy green eyes, its hard plastic ears and paw pads, and the loud miaow which sounds like a person pretending to be a cat. Not to mention the noticeable whirring of the mechanism while the cat is moving. Luckily my mum is very deaf!

My husband has dementia, the cat was bought for him. It is a great comfort for him. He thinks it is a “real” kitty. He strokes and pets it and falls asleep with it. It is a great joy for him.
