This is a really great robot vacuum with tons of great features. I originally tried a competitor’s robot because of a sale, but decided to try the Roborock robots because of the LiDAR navigation. My first foray into the Roborock lineup was the S4–excellent navigation, reasonable ability to clean on low pile carpets, superior cleanup of dog hair from a high-shed breed…however, the robot struggled with going over thresholds between my kitchen, dining rooms, and bathrooms.
That’s where the S4 MAX really excels! This robot has all the epic features of the S4 but dominates carpets (carefully pulling dog hair out of the carpets with zero damage to the carpet) and moves with ease over thresholds. This robot doesn’t have an automatic empty bin, but it takes 20 seconds to snap out the dustbin and empty it, so I’m not putting a lot of stock into that feature.
This really is the perfect robot vacuum. I did a lot of research into the available options and put 3 robots through the paces, and the Roborock S4 MAX really outperformed anything else I’ve seen. If you are looking for a really smart bot to basically automate your daily sweeping around your house—look no further!

If you don’t need mopping, get the S4 Max vs the S5 Max. If you don’t need camera based object avoidance, and most people don’t (or don’t want vacuum cameras in your house) get the S4 Max vs the S6 Max.
Great cleaning, easy WiFi setup, laser navigation, ~150 minutes of battery life, surprisingly quiet especially on the lowest power setting, and you can now know the precise square footage of every room you have!
Better cleanup performance than the Roomba s9 and the same as the S6 Max. I like that it doesn’t include a mopping function as I didn’t need this, saving extra costs.
The Roborock S4 Max uses LiDAR navigation enabling super fast mapping. Same capability as the Roborock S5 Max. I was amazed how quickly you can see on the app the map being generated; it created an accurate map on its first run. I found the virtual walls and no-go function to fit my needs perfectly.

This is my second RoboRock vacuum within a couple weeks, I first tried the E4 before sending it back and ordering the S4 Max. Here are a few of my observations on both models.
Both have great suction power and do a great job on my tile and hardwood floors. I have a thicker pile carpet in some areas, and both have issues with the corner brush tangling and binding up in the pile. Mainly in corners while turning. These vacuums would work much better on a low pile carpet. Not an issue for me since I bought it to clean the main areas in my home, which are tile and hardwood.
The E4 vacuumed in a more random pattern, hitting certain rooms multiple times while only doing others once. Also there is no ability to set walls or no go zones in the Mi Home app, which basically just shows you a map of your house and where the vacuum has been. Unless it was close to the dock, the E4 would also get lost and would be unable to find the dock on its own to recharge. I also found it would not pick up cleaning where it left off after going home to charge if the battery became low.
The S4 Max uses Lidar and touch to map your house in the RoboRock app, which supports no go zones and invisible walls. The S4 Max is very respectful of the walls i set up to keep it off the carpet areas. The Lidar is a huge improvement and I actually watched it in the app as it looked into rooms and mapped them before it even entered. It vacuums in a much more organized manner, cleaning every room once before completing the cycle and has always found its own way back to the dock to charge. I found that it will go to dock to charge and back to resume cleaning where it left off after charging to 80%. It will clean about 1100 square feet of tile and hardwood flooring in about 80 minutes and have about 35% battery power left. Does a great job of picking up anything small enough to fit under it.
In summary, the S4 Max is mechanically is very similar to the E4, however the Lidar and added control features the S4 Max offers make a huge difference and are well worth the extra cost in my opinion. I am very
pleased with the S4 Max and have a much cleaner home with way less effort!!

My wife was so skeptical of me buying this thing – skeptical to the point of making fun about it – before it arrived.
Our house doesn’t just have hardwood to carpet, there is hardwood to carpet, then thick rugs on top of the carpet. About 75% of the place is either carpet or rugs.
Well, me and the robot proved her wrong 😉
She said, and I quote, “this is the only good crazy thing you’ve ever bought”.

I did lots of research before purchasing Roborock S4, there are lots of robot vacuum on the market. We think Roborock is by far the best robot vacuum.
