Purchased this bike for my son for his 5th birthday. He loves it.
However, the right pedal continues to come off as he rides. The left pedal used to do this also, but doesn’t seem as keen on coming out.
Now, before you go accusing me of putting the pedals in the wrong socket, I checked, double checked, and triple checked this, I’ve even modeled it where the direction of the pedal should tighten the hold as the rider goes. For whatever reason, it doesn’t translate to real world tightening.
It is frustrating.
I’m also not the only reviewer to have this problem.

Buena calidad y acabados. Excelente para incentivar el uso de bicicleta. En contraste es menos dura su rodada. El formato del cuadro facilita el uso a los niños.

Easy to assemble, no missing parts. Fits just right for child with 18.5” inseam, 43” tall. If your child can get both feet mostly flat on the ground at the seat’s lowest setting then don’t bother with training wheels. Start in a flat open area like a outdoor basketball court. Stand behind and push with hands under their armpits. Let go while following behind, ready to pick them up by their underarms incase they fall. They will learn to balance quickly. Training wheels will impede learning to balance.
Good bike for beginners, just a few things we didn’t like. Bike is on the heavy side. The front caliper brake is not powerful enough. Coaster brakes makes it hard to get into optimal starting position. Child sits too upright in this bike’s geometry. We prefer more aggressive stance. And the handlebars can be too high even at lowest setting, making things more wobbly. Other than that, not a bad beginners bike for the price before considering more expensive ones with better weight, feature and geometry.

The bike itself was easy to assemble (I’m familiar with working on adult bikes of all sorts so this was a breeze) though unpacking it took nearly as long as assembling it. It’s quite sturdy, better than expected. The geometry is great for kids who will grow with the bike until they get 20” or 26” wheels on a bigger at age 5+.
I really like that it includes a front brake so they can train at using hand brakes in addition to the coaster (kick) brake.
There are some imperfections in the paint but nothing unexpected for a hundred dollar kids bike. The race number placard on the handlebars is a little scuffed up in transit but not bad and nothing compared to what a kid will do to it after just a few rides.
The training wheels are surprisingly stable and adjustable.
I would like to have some torque figures for how hard to tighten the bolts, but that’s more of an adult bike thing I guess. I used a little carbon assembly grease on the pedals since some of the reviews said they don’t stay put. So far so good.
I ordered my bike from Amazon warehouse, it arrived missing a bolt for the seat post clamp. I called Schwinn customer support, Pacific cycles, and they were able to quickly ship me a replacement quick release and bolt. They answered the phone quickly, and use express mail so that the part would arrive before Christmas.

My 3.25 yo son graduated from a 12″ wheel bike to this one. I bought this one after seeing an online review stating it was a good, inexpensive option compared with the $250+ expensive options. My son is 36 pounds with 16″ inseam and is 40″ tall. The bike is very easy to assemble and did not require any major adjustments out of the box. As some reviewers note, the handbrake is not very good, but my son still uses the coaster exclusively. The bike is quite a bit larger than his 12″ Hotrock was, and quite a bit heavier too. I dropped the seat and handlebars as low as they go, but he has to go tippy-toes to get on it. We use training wheels still, so no issue and he doesn’t seem to mind. He doesn’t go very far between stopping now, whereas he would go all over with the Hotrock. He can’t really tell me why, but he doesn’t mention “getting tired”, which I assume is due to riding position and weight making this bike hard to ride. I am guessing it would be more appropriate for a somewhat older, stronger child, but for now I am looking for another bike for him. For under $100 new, can’t really complain, but I would have been better off spending more for one of the nicer, lighter bikes. I have tried buying used, but hard to find those nicer models – most of the used bikes are the cheap Walmart/Target bikes that are even heavier than this Schwinn.
