Very good starter bike ,well made and sturdy, it doesn’t get 5stars because of minor details like dust caps for the tyres and a flimsy piece of plastic to cover the centre of the handlebars but not a great problem as i will get some dustcaps from and older bike and throw the plastic away . So almost but not quite .

There is not a day my kids (2 and 4) have not used this bike. My 4 year old used it for 3 weeks, then moved to a regular bike, and mastered it in 3 days. No one could believe a four year old on a regular bike without training wheels. Thanks to the balance bike. My 2.5 is now flying with the balance bike as well, but is not ready for pedaling on is regular bike yet. Many neighbors, and many friends have purchased a balance bikes because of seeing our kids. A stranger stopped and inquired about it. I would prefer the Schiwnn brand over other brands because it is a heavier bike, which seems to help with balancing. Never use training wheels!! Trust the balance bike to switch to a regular bike, then go back and forth until your child is ready. Don’t forget, they need to build muscles to pedal so be patient. Coordination and readiness will differ from child to child. And by the way, balance is excellent for brain development according to my research.

Follow-up review: my 2y7mo is now riding a regular pedal bike without training wheels of course…this balance bike has a heavier frame which I think helped with balance and also simulating a real bike, which is usually not light like some of the balance bikes on the market. If your child is going to transition from a balance bike to a regular bike, I would recommend to get a 12 inch bike as well, with a lower seat (17″) for my 93cm high son. And make sure the bike is not a stretched one, you want the child back to be in a straight posture. I would also recommend an aluminum frame if possible, or at least weighing less than 20lbs, to not push so much stress on the kids muscles and joints at a young age, it might also help up hill! Good luck. Very happy with my product. We bought another Schwinn for the holidays!

Love it! I can honestly say it’s a solid bike… in spite of 5 months later when plastic seat mount broke… I emailed a couple of pictures to Schwinn (googled their warranty info) and within 24 hours they reviewed it and said I would see a new seat and pole mount within the next week at my doorstep. Our 3 year old son rides around our big yard on it every day. I can’t ask for more in a kids’ bike or manufacturer warranty than that!!!

This bike has been great, but right after the year mark the seat broke off during regular use by my skinny 3-year-old. I contacted Schwinn and it’s outside of their 1-year warranty so they were going to charge $14.95 plus shipping and tax to replace the under-engineered part. I found this: https://smile.amazon.com/gp/product/B000AO7HSE/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o01_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 on amazon for under $13, free shipping, and it’s metal framework, so it should hold up way better. It looks slightly big on the bike, but works great for my son and fits perfectly on the post.

I bought this for my 3 year old who is kind of tall for his age. He’s about 44 inches tall so he’s probably about the height of a 4 year old. He loves this bike because it looks like a ‘big kid’ BMX bike and I like it for it’s quality and ease of setting up right out of the box. A couple of wrenches to put the wheels on and it’s ready to go in less than 5 minutes. My only wish is that the seat post was a couple inches longer so I will be able to adjust it higher as he grows. I will be able to buy a longer post when the time comes so it’s not a huge deal, just a nice-to-have thing. One word of advice, when the time comes to replace the inner tubes, buy heavy duty tubes and cut the old ones and use them to cover the new tubes. That way you’ll get extra protection from rocks and thorns. This may not be an issue if you live in the city or the bike is only used on sidewalks, but if your child is like mine and wants to ride off road this could end up saving time and money in the future.

I am a huge supporter of balance bikes. We got balance bikes for our children and they all were able to ride bikes without training wheels much earlier than most children – we have 3 kids. Our second and third had balance bikes at 18 months and were riding full bikes without training wheels before 4 years. The posted video is my daughter riding a bike with no training wheels at 3 years 9 months old.

    What I like about Schwinn:
    Good quality
    Soft seat is comfortable
    What I dislike:
Heavier than Strider, so kids couldn’t pick up as easily.

We had both a Strider and Schwinn balance bike. If I were making a choice and price was fairly similar I would choose Schwinn fir the comfort of the seat.

We love the Schwinn Balance Bike we bought for my 2.5 year old son! Especially when compared to his friend’s Strider bike, the Schwinn wins hands down (in our opinion). Here’s why: 1. The Schwinn bike is much more sturdy because it’s heavier, but not so heavy that my now 3-year old son can’t pick it up easily. The rubber tires are great because we live out in the country and our streets are not exactly smooth so they ride a lot better than the foam tires would. The bearings and frame have quality components and are well-made. The seat adjusts easily and fits my son just perfectly. The only downside to this bike is that the paint does scratch off easily but my son uses it practically everyday so I’m not surprised to see some wear and tear.

We love it so much that we made a comparison video against the Strider Balance Bike. Here’s the link: https://youtu.be/QER2iI0lWCA
We also made a video of my son learning how to ride his Schwinn: https://youtu.be/81vO1U1Q4Rw

The bike is great – AFTER we took it to our local bike shop and paid $20 to get it put together. Once we saw how to do it, we probably could have done it ourselves but the instructions were absolutely useless. Hopefully the following will be helpful: the additional nut needed for the front tire is encased in the black plastic piece, you have to break the plastic piece to get it out. Also remove the plastic cap from the handlebar piece in order to fit it correctly into the body of the bike.
