I never write reviews but I had to for this item to avoid others from purchasing this terrible product. Purchased item for my daughters birthday. The only thing the “purse” holds is the cell phone that needs to be attached in order for the item to show pictures. On top of that only certain cell phone will fit in the holder and if you have a case on the phone you have to remove the case for the phone to fit. I don’t know about you but I really don’t feel comfortable having my 8 year old carrying around my phone in her toy. The pictures do not download from the phone and therefore a phone needs to be attached to show the pictures. There is zero room for anything else in the “purse”. The purse is made of hard plastic and is not soft material as it appears. Disappointing to say the least. I returned right away. Don’t waste your time or money with this item.

I bought them after I saw a particular video on YouTube. Its not really about the purse but about ripping it apart and playing with the guts. Not even close to being a functional purse, as far as I can tell. Buy if for the video panel and get rid of the rest of the bits and pieces. Comes apart easily with some normal tools. The app that you can download is buggy as all, but if you’re buying it for the display panel, the app does not matter.

Have fun, and let me know what you have made with your video panel.

Not what we thought it was. Didn’t realize it didn’t actually hold anything inside. Kind of useless.

I was hesitant to get this for my 5yr old even though it was all she talked about wanting for Christmas. So I decided to get a gently used one instead of paying full price. That bet paid off! Even I am having fun creating pictures on the app and putting them onto the purse! My 5yr old is already a pro at transferring creations to her purse. I am very pleased with this. Yes it would be nice if there was actual “storage” space to use this as a purse as well, but I’m ok with it only holding a phone because she’d put the kitchen sink in it if she could, haha!

My daughter really wanted this for Christmas. I thought it seemed a little eesshh, but sucker that I am, I got it for her. As expected, it wasn’t really great. She was excited to try it, but found it difficult to work with. Plus, I wasn’t thrilled that I had to put the app on my phone. Maybe I read something wrong, but it wasn’t compatible with her new tablet, so she couldn’t use it with that. Seemed clunky and not geared to an appropriate age or something. I like the MC2 stuff in general, but this one was a waste of time/money.

As a grown man, carrying around a hot-pink purse toy isn’t exactly up my alley. As a purse, it’s unusable. The body is cheap, hard plastic and there is barely enough room to hold a small phone. As someone who isn’t and has never been a young girl, I guess this could be cool as a toy if they’re into the show or like techy gadgets.

But, like others here, the LED matrix display is what I bought this for. Thankfully, it’s very easy to remove and modify. There isn’t much logic on the display itself, though. You’ll be writing data and multiplexing manually. The included controller board is a no-name Microcontroller, so you’ll probably want to use an Arduino or raspberry pi to control this. Another bummer is that the on-board shift registers for the display only have Chinese documentation. But, if you’ve got an oscilloscope and/or logic analyzer ready, reverse engineering the pins isn’t a huge task.

This device was billed as a kids’ (girls’) digital plaything. It’s not a purse, as it doesn’t have room to hold much other than the cellphone it needs to be hooked up to in order to be most useful – and it is made of hard plastic, with a rubbery shoulder strap that isn’t very flexible. It truly was intended to be a “portable electronic signboard” for kids.

If your girl is into tech, and can see herself editing her digital light creations using the cramped real estate of her cellphone, then by all means – this is the toy for her!

If, however, you are a hardware hacker and wish to buy up INCREDIBLY inexpensive 16×32 full-color-LED displays that are compatible with the hzeller/rpi-rgb-led-matrix github library – THIS TOY IS IT! Just remove about 6 phillips screws, cut two wires and remove a board from the display’s header and – viola! A 7 dollar 16×32 LED display board! Go get a Raspberry Pi Zero W, a power supply and a few jumper cables and you have a great start at a fully computer-controlled signboard! Link more than one of these display boards together with some soldering and you’re off to JumboTron or Times Square – type “tickertape” (marquee) signage heaven!

God only knows why this is only compatible with a small list of phones. There is nothing that tells you this in the description which is a huge fault on the company that makes these. Their website is almost impossible to navigate to find this information. How hard is it for the company to make the app work on every phone???

Buyer beware: Find the list of compatible phones before purchasing this item or you will have a disappointed child. If you don’t have a new Samsung or iPhone you are out of luck. This should be stated in bold print in the description!

As we could not find this in stores, we only saw the product online in pictures. The pictures make it look like this “purse” has a soft body with a hard plastic display. This is not the case. The body is hard, heavy, and there is no way to use it as an actual purse!!! All you can hold in it is a phone or iPod, and a pack of gum. If you’re lucky. So your kid will have fun playing with it a few times, bring it somewhere once, realize it’s too heavy and awkward to cart around, beg you to hold it until you get back to the car, and then not really ever use it again. This could have been made SO much better, to make it actually fun and usable for a kid. This is a serious FAIL. That being said, the display is fun, the app to make new pictures is relatively easy to figure out and use, and does come preprogrammed with quite a few fun pics. But all of that is no use if you can’t actually use the purse!! It’s sad. Very expensive for what you get that you can’t use in the end. Had so much potential.

I purchased this as a DIY person. I recognized the LEDs used and wanted to see if I could confirm this and build my own LED Matrix. Turns out, I was right! It’s a very simple, generic circuit board attached to a classic RGB Matrix that you’d find used in things like LED Billboards. The matrix its self is worth $25, making this a good buy.

However, I also had plans to use it as-is after re purposing it into another case, but the application stopped me. From a toys perspective, this item is really frustrating to use. Drawing stuff with their app is hell and scrolling text is limited to one small message at a time. There are no fancy text effects or anything to keep an older kid entertained for more than the moment they get it.

If you’re going to purchase this, do so for your own DIY projects! Negated 2 stars for the poor quality interface. 5 stars for the idea its self, but we’re grading more than just the idea here.
