Finally took the plunge and purchased a Vitamix. Figured if I was spending the money I’d go for the 3500 with all the bells and whistles. I really do appreciate the presets. Totally unnecessary, I know, but they do add convenience, and what’s an extra few bucks when I’m already spending hundreds of dollars more than most high end blenders. I’ve made juices, shakes, smoothies pretty much daily, and consistency is perfect (no chunks, fibres, etc.). Made the best hummus I’ve ever made (out of hundreds of batches). Did a broccoli cheddar soup that came out great. Chocolate mint and strawberry ice cream. Clean up is a breeze. So far it’s living up to the hype. If buying on Amazon, watch the price, as it tends to fluctuate by a hundred bucks or more from day to day.

I wanted to upgrade my 5200 Vitamix but unfortunately ended up sending this one back at my expense. The automatic buttons for frozen items and for smoothies didn’t work well; they did not come out mixed enough. The container size is very different from the 5200 and none of my old favorite recipes (for sorbets, soups, salad dressings, etc.) came out the same. It was a huge fail and I was very disappointed. My 5200 still works well after 10 years and I’ll just buy another 5200 when, or if, it stops working.

My wife and I were so excited! At long last we had made the decision to bite the bullet and buy our dream blender, the top of the line Vitamix A3500. $550. The day it arrived we couldn’t wait to try it out. As we unpacked it we remarked at the substantial nature of the machine, heavy and solid.

We followed the instructions through the cleaning process and then set out to get margarita makings for our afternoon happy hour with the neighbors. Giddy with the prospect of making our frozen margaritas, we told our friends they were in for a special treat! Finally the time came. The ingredients were loaded and everyone was gathered around the Vitamix. I hit the button and…error, error, error, over and over again. What a disappointment!

So we get online. Unplug, toggle the on off switch, unplug, toggle the switch…who needs this with a $550 “top of the line” appliance. My wife who is much more patient than I tries to call customer service as instructed by the owners manual. After an hour on hold (during our happy hour) she finally leaves a message for a call back. NO CALL BACK, EVER!

After a few more unsuccessful calls to customer service and days of disdainful looks every time we walked by the thing, we decide to give it another shot. Who knows, maybe it doesn’t like alcohol. This time a power veggie smoothie with fresh juice, kale, carrots, cucumber, ginger…the works. The moment of truth! I press the button…error, error, error. Arrrrrgh!! Back to try customer service. NO ANSWER! Bound and determined, my resourceful and patient wife, decides to call Vitamix commercial division. They actually answer. She explains what’s happening and they say they don’t deal with private customers but they would have someone in consumer customer service call us back which they finally did. Unfortunately they were short, surly and couldn’t be bothered. Their best advise was to just handle it with the company we purchased it from.

Needless to say, we sent it back. After our experience we began to research more customer reviews about Vitamix and the performance of the machine is somewhat mixed but mostly good. However, their customer service gets very poor reviews and we experienced exactly why. Maybe we got a lemon but a product is only as good as the people who stand behind it. In our case sadly neither the product nor the people behind it were any good…In my experience, I would steer clear of Vitamix unless you like paying a lot of money for a lot of aggravation.

I was so looking forward to using this blender but cannot get the lid off. I have tried everything I can think of and surely there must be someway. I have even asked a couple of friends and they too failed to get it off. Then to make sure it wasn’t just this particular blender I went to a couple of local stores and tried their store models. No luck! I asked a couple of salespeople but they had no clue and failed to remove the lid. So, I have no idea how the blender works and do not have good feelings that it will work at all if I did somehow manage to get it open. Don’t buy.

The absolute WORST! Overpriced for weakest blender I’ve ever owned. Being Greek, I have a lot of family & friends in the food industry & restaurant business. Vitamix USED to be reputable for putting out a quality product, but not anymore. From what I’ve been told, even the commercial models can’t keep up with regular use, they break down often, parts and labor are astronomical, and overall support from the company is as bad & slow as can be. Everybody who has told me who switched to another blender go so far to say that the switch actually helped their bottom line in profits. This residential unit struggles with shakes & smoothies. I recorded a shot of this blender struggling with my baby daughter’s breakfast mix. Just cereal, banana, & milk… it’s what actually pushed me to this review. This program is supposed to start at 5 then jump to 10, but it doesn’t even make it halfway. try to listen how it struggles. Forget anything with ice. Anything more than just a couple cubes puts a lot of strain on the motor & you can feel and smell it begin to overheat. I use 6 small ice cubes, Max, & it’s too much for the machine. That said, I’m going to provide pictures of the size of the cubes I use below (later, post post).
Vitamix is coasting on their old reputation and pushing out a poor product on all fronts. Avoid them to avoid a headache. Good thing I didn’t get rid of my Breville. At least that one is reliable.

We decided to upgrade to a newer model when our Turbo VS started to emit a burning smell. Unfortunately we can not get our Vitamix to blend anything. Even the cleaning cycle produces an error code (pictured). We’ve had the blender for over a month now and can not get Vitamix to service the blender. They essentially sent us an email containing the instructions on how to use the blender, and have been unresponsive for over a week now. This is the most expensive purchase we’ve made that’s turned out to be an absolute lemon. I wish we had went with different brand or the classic model.

This is the top of the line Vitamix and while I am happy with it for the most part, there are a few issues. For the price, it should be perfect imo ☺️
The lid fits very snugly and is awkward to remove. Two hands are required, and then it still feels like it’s not on quite right. You basically have to cradle the blender in your arms to get it off every time.
The area where the blender attaches is made of a very strange rubber that really collects dust and dirt, and is difficult to wipe clean. I honestly thought I was sold a reconditioned unit, but it’s still hard to clean even now.
The measurements on the side are very tiny and the same color as the blender, so pretty much impossible to see without a very bright light, and in my case, magnifying glass. I ended up putting dots of nail polish so I could identify the markings.
The pre-sets and timer are great so you don’t have to pay attention to blending time as it turns off automatically. The power is what you pay for and would expect from a Vitamix, so no issues there, although you do have to blend a certain amount of liquid or its ineffective. I made almond milk and it really did a great job liquefying the nuts. Delicious! Smoothies are very smooth.
I really wanted the self-detect bowls, but they are $140(!) extra which I feel is a crime when you’ve already paid over $700 for the blender.
I’m still finding my way around it, but I caution you to really think twice about this purchase. Maybe there’s a better option for you.

Be very careful what vendor you purchase from! My wife bought from a 3rd party seller that advertised at nearly twice the price as they stated a pro professional version. There is no such thing. We returned and were refunded (thanks Amazon!) and purchased another at 1/2 cost for identical unit. We love this Vitamix!!

     To whom this may concern,

Its been a few days since I wrote this and HAVEN’T HEARD ANYTHING FROM YOU but I would like to know what your plan is moving forward. I’M VERY DISAPPOINTED and upset with the lack on communication I have received since writing this a few days ago after being told by AMAZON that it should take no longer then 24 hours!

Here is what I wrote based on my experience I had the other day.

I have had my Vitamix A3500 for about 14 months now, I have noticed in the past some of the buttons didn’t work such as trying to make ice-cream or soup; however, today was by far the WORST experience I have had!! I was meal prepping green smoothies for the next couple days and noticed that the items in the blender weren’t completely blending up, so I put the stick (the Vitamix gives you) into the blender to help it mix. This only helped a little. After about 5 seconds, I started smelling this tire smell. I had NO IDEA WHERE IT WAS COMING FROM to then noticing that there was BURNING FUMES FROMING FROM THE SIDE OF THE MACHINE of the Vitamix!!! I’m in complete shock and just overall VERY disappointed with this product after spending SO MUCH MONEY on it. Don’t get me wrong, I have had Vitamixs’s in the past but NOTHING has ever been this bad. Sadly, because its way past the return date, I can’t send it back for a new one. So now I’m stuck with this VERY EXPENSIVE Vitamix that I’m not able to use AT ALL and a big jar of minced veggies and fruit that I couldn’t finish blending.
I want to know if anyone else have experience this? Also, can Vitamix do anything to help me with this problem?
