I was overnight in Jerusalem not too long ago and the hotel had a Nespresso machine in the room which I very much enjoyed. Nespresso has got the crema thing down, clearly. It is true that, per cup, using this machine and their pods is a lot more expensive than your typical home brew. Except, you can’t do at home what you can do with this machine unless you get a traditional espresso machine at triple the cost AND you decide to invest the time and energy to operate it correctly. If the expense is not too much of an issue, the Nespresso end product is really good (imho) and you don’t have to become a barista to get there. I am also surprised at how much I enjoy trying out their different flavors. I have always been a no frills, doppio sort of person, usually with a splash of cream to smooth things out. Nespresso has broadened my horizons, an unexpected pleasure. And the Vertuo line is kind of a technological wonder. The machine reads the code on each pod and then automatically brews accordingly. Even more simplicity for even greater variety. All this, together with their fair trade practices (which even The Guardian admits are genuine and commendable) along with their pod recycling program convinced me to make the investment. I am happy with the product I get for 1/3 of what I would pay at a regular barista shop. It is a little bit of luxe in the morning; a nice way to start the day.

The Vertuo Next Deluxe Dark Chrome by Breville edition is by far a the most disappointing upgrade from the VertuoPlus Deluxe Silver by Breville edition that I just gave away ever.
This machine feels and looks and feels like a cheap replacement compared to the other machines I have purchased over the years. The VertuoPlus Deluxe was an amazing machine, a gorgeous design, a large water capacity you could adjust to the right or left depending on where you are displaying it in the kitchen. The Vertuo Next has a ridiculously small water capacity, if you make to 2 to 3 large coffees you must refill the machine and because the designed with the dispenser it in the back of the machine it is hard to access if you have it flush with your kitchen counter. The overall depth of the Vertuo Next and is way too long now, overall, it is an extremely poor design.
The nicest feature on the VertuoPlus Deluxe is the one touch electronic opener, it was a great upgrade from the Origional Vertuo Chrome. The new Vertuo Next you must force it right or left to open or close it and it is exceedingly difficult to operate it, you must hold the unit down which mean putting your fingerprints on the chrome to hold the machine down to open or close it. In fact, my wife is having trouble opening or closing it at all, so it is very frustrating for her.
The new pod dispenser on the Vertuo Next is also horrible, when you open the top of the machine it dispenses the old pod into the pod trash container and unlike all the other machines, when it dispenses the pod excess coffee also drips into the pod trash container. I did not realize that until I went to empty the pod trash container and coffee spilled all over the place.
Lastly the Vertuo Next is the loudest machine ever, and that really is disappointing and when it is making the coffee the froth the machine generates starts breaking down before the coffee even completes preparing.
I decided to upgrade and purchased this machine because of the new Carafe Pour-Over that I was so looking forward to it. Unfortunately, this is my second day of ownership, and I have not even tried the Carafe yet but with all the functional and quality issues with the new Vertuo Next, I am not sure what to do. I gave my VertuoPlus Deluxe Silver by Breville to my sister-in-law because she loves coffee but now, I feel like I have an inferior cheaply made product that I would never in a million years though Nespresso would ever create. The Nespresso coffee is superior to anything out there besides going to a barista and the brand has always been first class, I feel like I might need to reconsider my position.

This machine worked great for 4 coffees then I noticed some water was leaking out of the sides at the back (from the top), I thought it was because I had used a Starbucks Nepresso virtuo pod (the exact one I needed for this machine) so I switched back to the ones that came with the machine. The leak only got worse and 4 coffees later was saturating a towel that we put under it. So I requested to return it to amazon and get a replacement machine and just use its leaking self until the next one comes, and today it just wont work-at all! The light comes on but it wont brew anything, its literally just broken down after maximum 10 brews. Also-you get a booklet with the machine that says free shipping on orders over $35-WRONG in Canada the min. order for free shipping is $99, you also get a coupon code for $10 off first coffee order-WRONG it doesnt work (because I have to use Canada site, code must be for US only).
*Ill update if this one is a lemon or if the replacement is a dud too
Update-It took 1 month for the replacement to start leaking, this time in an entirely different area (underneath) so we returned the replacemet and ordered a different nespresso model and its great, it feels more sturdy and hasn’t leaked! We ordered the Nespresso Vertuo coffee and espresso machine by breville, it was only a few $$ more and an entirely better machine!!

Great coffee maker but…. had a defect so leaking lots of water down the sides and out the bottom every time it is used. Have to return but will try a new one and see if it has the same problem.

I’ve been a regular coffee drinker and I’ve owned many coffee makers but I’ve not ever felt so frustrated with any machine than this one. This is the WORST every espresso/coffee machine and it’s way OVER PRICED for what it can do. At first, it took me like an hour to try to figure out how to initialize the machine and get my first espresso drink, then a few days later, when I unplugged it and move it to a different location in my kitchen, plugged it back in and it just keep flashing white and it won’t do anything else, no matter how many seconds I press on the button to try to get out of the stupid descaling mode. I’ve checked online and there are many people experiencing this same issue and would have to call customer support line and sometimes takes like an hour to resolve. Something that cost $200 and all it does is to make coffee SHOULD NOT be this complicated and time consuming to set up and use. It’s beyond ridiculous. I spent more time to try to get this machine working than enjoying my cup of coffee. I’m sending this it back and will not ever try another machine of this brand.

I’d like to say first I’m a huge Nespresso fan and love their coffee. I bought this machine off Amazon since my old one was left in a different province. One difference I noticed was this vertuo machine is harder to close and twist the lock shut in order to brew the coffee. I find I have to force the head down and use force to pull the lever to shut it. As for the coffee I have had no problems!
Update: I use my machine every day and am obsessed with the amazing coffee and recycling program. Unfortunately my machine started leaking and it no longer closes properly and needs a lot of force to close and lock. When it’s closed one side has a gap while the other is closed. I’m going to contact Nespresso and hopefully send this one back and get a replacement machine

I’d been shelling out a small fortune to Starbucks weekly for the past decade, and decided when I got a home-based virtual job that the morning trip with the dog to the drive-thru was no longer feasible. I had known all about Nespresso machines and their coffee since I work in the Housewares industry, and I’m surprised I didn’t cave and buy a machine sooner.
I wanted simple and inexpensive: a machine that could do espresso, and a regular full-size cup of coffee.
One at a time.
Nothing fancy schmancy.
No frother.
No steam wand.
And, easy enough to use that if a family member comes over and wants coffee and I don’t feel like getting up off the couch, all they have to do is go into the kitchen, pick their coffee, and help themselves!
And the coffee?!
All I can say is I can’t believe I’ve been drinking bitter Starbucks espresso all these years.
The flavor varieties are divine, and you can stock up on your espresso or regular favorites.
My only criticism of Nespresso is when you order different varieties, they make you buy them in minimum’s of 10 of one flavor because that’s how they come boxed.
I’d love to see them let you mix 5 of the same with 5 of another different type, but I get it.
Extra steps mean extra labor and reduce the profit margin.
So what are you waiting for? Sit down and figure out how much money you are throwing away each week at Starbucks and Dunkin, and I’m sure you’ll see you can more than afford Nespresso.
It’s Heaven In A Cup.
