Update! I think the formula has changed! I’ve picked up three tubes from my local store and 2 out of the 3 are the same as the ones from Amazon. The formula changed we have switched to hello 🍓 now.
Sadly this is not the same as the one I purchase in store. It may have the same exact name but the product is completely different. My kiddos hate it, the smell is very powerful and chemical like. I’m returning asap! The pictures show the empty tube from my local Walmart and the Amazon tube next to it.

I rarely write reviews but feel I should in this case, to provide a word of caution from one mom to other parents.
My kids have been using Tom’s of Main Silly Strawberry for years and years. When they started using this particular tube (one of a three-pack), they complained it tasted strange. I tried it and it does indeed taste strange, not at all what we are used to. I’m not sure if the “20 percent more” tubes changed formula in any way from the regular size? Nothing on the packaging alludes to a change in the product, which leads me to believe the product is just not good.
I tried to return the tubes but it is beyond the return date by a few weeks (as we were finishing our last tube). I am hoping the supplier, or Toms or Amazon on their behalf, will accommodate a return given the defectiveness of this product. I did purchase regular tubes from another vendor and am curious to see if the problem persists.

I have used this toothpaste for years at the recommendation of my allergist. I have terrible food allergies and this HAS BEEN ONE OF THE FEW toothpastes I could use. I got my order and immediately started using the toothpaste. I noted a bit of a different taste but did not occur to me that they had added lemon juice, orange juice and mango juice with no label change. I am highly allergic to citrus fruits. I started developing terrible blisters and ulcers in my mouth, inside cheeks, inside lips, top and bottom of tongue. These are extremely painful!! I have so many allergies that it took some time to find the culprit. I could not think of anything I was eating or drinking that was different and finally looked at the “Inactive Ingredients” on the toothpaste. I am so upset, angry and disappointed that a company like Tom’s of Maine would do such a thing! And for what purpose? Luckily, I am able to get a refund, but basically that means nothing to me. I would like to have back the weeks that I suffered in pain and could not eat instead. Tom’s of Maine-you have a reputation of producing “healthy” products. There are so many people now that have multiple allergies. How about you put some kind of comment on your product before you make a big change like that. I am enclosing pictures of the old tube and the new tube both front and back. If you will look the only difference on the front is that the words “Silly Strawberry” are in green instead of blue and in very small letters it says “with real fruit juice!” with an arrow to a picture of a STRAWBERRY. I will need to let my allergist know, all my friends with food allergies and I hope you are ashamed of hurting loyal customers that have depended on your product for years. Yes, I am furious! Now I am on the search for another toothpaste that doesn’t contain citrus fruit, any type of mint or cinnamon plus does not have the preservative sodium benozate or benzoic acid.

The formula for this toothpaste must have changed because my daughter has used it for 5 years and when I bought this 3 pack she says it tastes awful and refuses to use it.

Something was off with the latest batch because my daughter spit it out immediately. I smelled it and it smelled like some sort of plastic chemical. Like toxic. The texture, color and consistency was very different as well. We tossed the 3 pack we bought through Tom’s of Maine on Amazon. Expire date is 12/21.

Very expensive toothpaste, apparently no longer available in theUK, but an annual birthday present for my partner who apparently loves it!

The year is 2020. So many things have changed. Why must the only toothpaste that worked for my children change? Why must one of the only smooth parts of our bedtime routine change? WHY????! Why must Silly Strawberry be renamed Sadness and Rage Strawberry? “20% more” relabeled on the tube. Score! I thought. However, it should have just read “2020 version” as a fair warning to avoid at all costs. I wouldn’t have purchased a 3 pack of fluoride and a 3 pack of fluoride free.
I thought my kids were being dramatic with the immediate gagging and spitting after using the newly opened, easy on fingers to squeeze, Tom’s “Silly Strawberry”. Their shouts and complaining were met by stares of confusion. Don’t get me wrong, they are usually loud. There are usually more than enough complaints for a day. But never at “Brush Your Teeth Time”.
Luckily for these pandemic kids, they have a father that believes them (sorta). I squeezed a little toothpaste onto my finger and placed it in my mouth. AHHHHHHHHHHH! I went into a panic, The sink, mere inches from me , wasn’t close enough. Spitting and fumbling for the faucet, I shoved my face under the water scraping at my tongue. Leaving my brain thinking: This toothpaste ain’t right!
Kids: “See. Dad?”
Dad: “Yup. You guys were right. Let’s try the fluoride free.”
Whoops. That was a mistake too. Not wanting teeth to go unbrushed and instantly assuming we got a knockoff product, I tagged my wife, and said: “you’re it!”, geared up and went to Safeway. Grabbed a tube of Tom’s, raced home (within the speed limit, mostly), bounded up the stairs, opened the tube, put some on my tongue…
NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!! Same reaction as before. Tastes chalkier, and TERRIBLE.
2020 version is YUK!
Looked up the reviews and saw we weren’t alone. For our family, 6 years of Tom’s , 3 kids later I went on a hunt for a replacement. 6 different brands/flavors later, we have settled on Hello, Watermelon. It got sideways thumb. Not up, not down. Sideways. Good enough for us!
Lastly, I noticed that most of the recent positive reviews got their free tube of toothpaste as a: Vine Customer Review of Free Product. Hmmmmm. Suspect.
