The instructions claim you need to maintain the device (this includes replacing the filter every 2 to 4 weeks). Well, yes you do, however in order not to send contaminated atomized water vapor into your home you need to do this almost every day! Nonsense! We live in the Midwest and have Lake Michigan drinking water. Our water has almost no dissolved minerals. However the humidifier and the related parts are coated with algae after just one day’s use. Our Vick’s warm mist device (which this replaced) had none of these flaws (a weekly cleaning was more than enough). This device is a pain and more importantly the instructions (applied in Chicago) are not true and misleading. You will need to clean this humidifier at least every other day (and perhaps daily) requiring a complete break down and misting the parts with a solution of chlorine bleach and water to kill the algae (appears red on the surfaces of the device). If you want a minimum maintenance device do not buy this humidifier. Try and find a warm mist humidifier which boils the water and sends steam into you home (leaving you with the weekly job of de-scaling which, using regular white vinegar, takes about 6-7 hours (almost all soaking time) which is also a pain but at least you do not have to do this just about everyday!l.

We have owned a few humidifiers for our home. Our biggest issue with them is the water which stains the plastic. Sadly once that happens it is impossible to clean. We have been using this humidifier for about a week now. IT has a water filter built in for hard water. It has not stained.

    Pros:

Water filter built in for hard water (great feature)
You can see the humidity coming out

    Cons:
Careful where you point this. IT puts out a lot of humidity.

We accidentally pointed it near our newborn and she woke up in the middle of the night. We realized that her bed was all wet! Careful where you place this.

This was an excellent humidifier. I would recommend

Purchased end of January as a replacement for an older one that lasted a number of years. Broke six weeks later (and of course in the night the 5-year old has a bad cold). Literally heard a piece inside snap when it was turned on. A piece of junk and of course no way to contact Amazon for a replacement. Lesson learned — don’t buy appliances through Amazon.

I have edited my initial review, and have upgraded my initial negative opinion and added a star to the review. After some delay Customer Service finally provided me with a replacement unit, so this is an update to the negative comments I made and have now deleted as unnecessary to this review.

This item actually works OK, and produces a steady stream of humidified air; however, there are a few issues I’ve found with the unit that make it less than ideal.

The fill plug on the bottom of the water tank becomes harder and harder to remove after a few fills. Those with limited hand strength will not be able to remove the plug without some sort of tool. Then there’s the awkward way the water tank sits on a countertop while filling. The top is rounded and there is no way the tank will sit flat when turned upside down while filling, instead tilting and moving around. That makes it a bit difficult to fill, and I’ve spilled water in the process of filling several times.

Worked a few months . Filter clogs quickly and is expensive . Tried the cleaning suggestions to no avail . When operating a good steam pattern emerges . Consumer reports gives it a good rating and I cannot do that . Haven’t contacted the company because I became tired of playing with it .

I think this humidifier works great. It’s easy to fill, clean, and operate. I’m not only breathing and sleeping better, but it’s also helped with my Husbands allergies. We enjoy this product.

We have hard water in our area, and we have a water softener in our home (which is calibrated and serviced by a water softener professional, so it’s not a matter of the softener not doing its job) to mitigate it. Nonetheless, our water has minerals in it. This humidifier atomizes the minerals from the water into the air. We’ve had this for about 3 weeks and there is a find white dust on *everything*.

With the coronavirus we bought a great electronic air quality monitor. The PM 2.5 measure in our home is normally 1 or 2. With this humidifier running the PM 2.5 was *well* into the unhealthy range.

In summary, if you have naturally soft water in your home this humidifier is great. Puts out plenty of humidity for our 3,000 SF home. We were easily able to keep the humidity within the heathy range in our home in snowy, cold, dry-air Wisconsin. The concern is the atomization of the minerals in the water – because they house is noticeably “dusty” now, and we were breathing in all of that particulate.

I hated this thing the first time we used it. We had it on the floor. It needed a towel placed the floor was so wet.
The desire was to ditch it or sell it, instead we gave it more more try, this time, placed at counter height. What a difference. Now I love it. Zero condensate anywhere. It runs very quiet. We didn’t throw out the vicks pad that fits into the slot. Instead (I am sure it would void the warrenty but who cares now, 3 years later) we reuse them and add a few drops of scented homeopathic oils. Now I love this machine. I just noticed the priced dropped too.
