I purchased this to replace a Rival unit that lasted 7 years before it bit the dust.
Here is a comparison between the two.
Speed: Rival = 4 stars, S-700 = 1 star. no comparison here, the Rival produces ice much faster. You can make 5 complete snow cones with the Rival before the S-700 shaves enough ice for 1. The S-700 will take 3 minutes+ just to make one snowcone if it is set to a fine shaved ice opening.
Texture: Rival = 2 stars, S-700 = 3.5 stars. If you adjust the blade to its’ finest margin, the S-700 win this one easily. But it will also clog/freeze up before you can get 1 20oz snowcone made. Even if it is adjusted out 1/2 way the texture is still better with the S-700. This is where I leave mine, any further out and you just get crushed ice. The Rival produced more of a fine crushed ice, not shaved.
Reliability: Rival = 4 stars, S-700 = 1 star. The Rival lasted 7 years making countless snowcones for the kids and their friends one after another without slowing down right until it just died, the S-700 shuts down and overheats if you try and make more than 2 snow cones in a row. Their instructions do say to not run it for longer than 2 minutes at a time, which would allow it to make about 1/2 a snowcone… see speed rating above.
Price: Rival 5 stars, S-700 5 stars. Rival sells for $19.99 and the S-700 for $24.99. For $25 it was worth the trial.
Final review. The S-700 is slow. It does produce a good product if you have the patience to wait on it. But have I said that it is oh soooo very slow yet? The fact that it shuts down most times after making only two snow cones and we have to let it sit for 10 minutes and cool down to make my 3rd kid one, really is the kicker and why I cannot recommend anyone to purchase it. BUT if you only want to make 1 pretty good shaved snowcone at a time and have the patience to wait 2-3 minutes for it to be made… then this is the snowcone maker for you.

Not sure if I got a used one or not. The plastic has a small stains on it. The blade has a chip in it. It worked though. However the motor has a burnt smell when running. I’ve only made one cup of ice with it.

Good:
Hands-free operation, which is the primary reason I opted for this model rather than others that normally require one to pull a handle to push ice down into a container
Attractive design
Can be easily taken apart for cleaning
Blade is adjustable
Can use ice cubes instead of ice molds, so you don’t have to preplan in order to use it
Bad:
Coarse ice shaving as found in typical ice shavers. It’s ok for snow cones, but I wanted something finer and fluffier for use with Asian desserts and drinks.
Opening allows use of mugs and cups, but pints are too tall to fit into the space. So you end up holding the device higher with one hand while it works. So, it defeats the purpose of a one-handed operation, as noted above.

a little noisy, but that is to be expected while shredding ice. works pretty quickly, just keep kids hands away since blade could still be accessed by where snow falls from on the bucket.

Got it today 5/8/18, tested it today. Semi-cheaply made, but comes easy to assemble. The plastic cover has to be pried down to fit into the locking mechanism groove for the machine to start and I thought it was a simple fold-down lid like the Little Snowie brands. The ice is somewhat shaved, but its not soft, fluffy and snow shaved as I’m used to with more expensive brands. It does shave the ice, it’s just a different texture, it’s like ice crystals, but it is soft. They say the blade can be adjusted, and I adjusted the blade forward and backward; but when pushed all the way forward and bolted back down, the engine was a loud chain saw, smelled burnt, and didn’t shave the ice. I tried readjusting the blades to middle position and still the same results; so ended up adjusting back to original position.
This is an ok starter ice shaver for kids snow cones, at least it’s a step up from the Snoopie hand crank; but a little pricey for the quality that’s received. Maybe spend a little more for something better or maybe get this one and it’ll serve the purpose fine.

I was SO excited to receive this product, and wanted to love it! I’m pregnant and craving anything cold and crunchy so this could’ve saved me a lot of trips to the drive thru lol. For the first few days I really tried to like it but the texture of the ice was just so-so. I could’ve dealt with that because for $35 and the convenience of making cold treats at home it was worth it! I haven’t even been using the product for a full week and today used it to make a slushy style drink. I found several pieces of shaved plastic mixed into the ice crystals and I’m done. I plan to return the machine and spend more money to get something better quality. Super gross and very frustrating!

Practical.Useful. Exactly what we were looking for. Great for kids -when they wish to do things themselves- since the blade is somehow out of reach of little hands. Perfect for parties. I consider this an indispensable piece during Summer. Equally great for kids and adults. Today we are putting it to work: Shrimp cocktail on a bed of ice, best margaritas ever, and flavored ice for the kids. (By the way, we are making ice cubes using pureed fruit. Once herdened, they are shaved like usual ice and the kids adore them!)

This Hawaiian Shaved Ice S700 Electric Snow Cone Machine is a huge hit with the whole family … the daughter, the nieces, the nephews, and no small number of adults, either. Just right for making sno cones that you can flavor with any of the myriad flavor syrups out there. It’s designed to let you put whatever sized cup you need to catch the ice (no special attachment needed, but there is a height limitation). Believe it or not, the thing actually travels okay, too. That said, the folks in the hotel room next you might wonder what you’re doing because the machine is not exactly quiet (it’s cutting ICE for Pete’s sake!).
Easy to set up / easy to use. Decent pricepoint makes it a good value.

I bought this on March 2015 for my wife. She loves plain shaved ice and this provides a nice “snowy” texture that is far better than the ice crushing feature on the fridge. We’ve been using it 1-2 times each day for 2 years and it’s still running great. Lately the ice is slower to come out, so I’ll be buying a new replacement blade from their website. Can’t recommend this little guy enough.
As for noise, yeah…it’s about as loud as a normal blender crushing ice. You’ll need to talk loudly to anyone nearby so they can hear. But for thirty bucks? Awesome deal.
