The meter feels solid and well constructed. The plastic is thick and study (no creaking or flimsiness). The battery compartment has a proper O-ring and the rest of the unit looks to be sealed with glue/silicone. Nice Japanese OEM batteries are included so it’s ready to go out of the box.
It’s a bit larger than other meters, but that makes it easier to handle. The lanyard very convenient when taking direct measurements inside larger reservoirs such as 50 gallon drums. Even if you do drop this meter into your reservoir it’ll be fine because it’s fully waterproof.
This meter does not provide exact numeric measurements on a display like some others, but the LED indicators are easy to read and intuitive. If one indicator blinks, then your nutrient concentration is at that level. If two LEDs alternate blinking then the measurement is about halfway between those values. The precision should be enough for any hydroponics system.
The meter turns on automatically when it detects water above the minimum PPM and turns off automatically after displaying the reading for a while. There are no controls on the meter. It doesn’t turn on when immersed in common tap water, so accidental battery drain isn’t a problem. The detector element itself is also very sturdy and easy to clean. I usually rinse it off every few measurements and store it in the protective case.
Buy it!

Ordered and received a faulty product, amazon sent a replacement the next day. Spoke with Bluelab directly as well they were very helpful. 10/10 tool, somewhat analogue, no need to worry or guess anymore!

This reader is very nice. Not
Only is is super easy to read and understand but it’s also very easy to clean a as well. I prefer to test my nutrients prior to watering and also my run off. One
Of my best purchases thus far.. Highly recommend!!

This is my most important daily tool for hydroponics, and it works really well, and is dead simple to use.
The trickiest thing is no fault of the truncheon–there are two different *standard* scales for converting EC to PPM. The trick in hydroponics is to use EC, not PPM precisely because of this problem. But the wand shows you all of the different scales you might need.
Highly recommended.

So simple even a stoner can use it. No calibrating. Water proof. Highly durable and easy to read. I love this thing. No more oops moments dropping the meter in the reservoir or inaccurate reading. It just works. get one!

Quality product.

Ridiculous nonsense to register product, will not accept pic of receipt, then to the captcha lottery. I thought we were past all that rubbish by now. Make your form fill as good as your meters

I love this tds meter. No its not digital in the sense it wont tell you 433 ppm but trust me you dont need to be that exact. As long as you’re within 50ppm or .1ec your good to go.Other positives. If someone breaks into your grow room you can use this bastard as a baton and crack em in the head.It doesn’t need calabration and you can use it to stir nutrients. And lastly uses normal damn batteries. Goodbye to the little digi meters that are always in need of recalibration.

After buying and returning a cheaper item, I am back to an awesome brand and an item I had used for years and that I trust to help me keep my Hydroponic systems in the correct range. This truncheon is super easy to use, instantly readable, durable, and accurate. The cheap alternative was not waterproof, didn’t read consistently, and failed completely in less than a week. The last truncheon I owned lasted 3 years of daily commercial use monitoring 6 high volume flow systems. Trust BlueLab, worth the extra money.

Best on the market for a hand held. Get one and you’ll never regret it.

Best nutrient meter out there. Very tough it’s always accurate and simple too use. Last for ages.
Some Common Sense –
Love this thing. Keep in mind you should wash it after use. ECC is a good indicator but that is like taking someone’s temperature… doesn’t tell you what is right or wrong. Conductivity is great but you still have to balance your minerals and mix well. If you are buying this because you are experimenting with hydroponics… thanks for supporting the industry and please let me know where you list it when you can’t figure out how to use it.
