This is my second Amazon Buttoned Down slim fit no iron dress shirt I have bought. First the fit. This stretch shirt fits identically or almost the exact same as the other non stretch dress shirt I bought. My dress shirts are usually a 15.5″ neck and 35″ sleeve. This shirt is true to size. I am 6′ and 180 lbs with broad shoulders and a slim 32″ waist. The slim fit in this shirt fits me a little tighter around the abs and waist than most other brands I have tried in their slim fit. I like the fit of this shirt better – there is less loose cloth I need to tuck in which makes for a cleaner look. Next the fabric. I love the look and feel of this stretch material. My only complaint is that I still have to iron the shirt quickly. Hopefully the shirt wears well over time.

I am 6′ 3″ – 175 with an athletic build and this is hands down the best fitting slim fit shirt! I will only purchase this brand from now on b/c the fit is so perfect with no alterations needed. I would normally purchase 16.5 neck and 36/37 sleeve dress shirts from the store. They would always be so baggy around the midsection. I finally found a 15.5 neck 36/37 sleeve but it was super short and would always come untucked. With the Amazon Brand – BUTTONED DOWN slim fit shirt I purchased a 15.5 neck 37 sleeve and its a perfect fit and length.

The shirt fits exactly as expected in the body for 16.5”. I would have only two recommendations to make this shirt even better, a five-star: First, a bit longer in the body, especially since 36” sleeves will usually be for a tall person. Second, the fabric could be a bit thicker. The price may increase a bit, but it would be a good trade-off.

This is the second review I’ve written for the Buttoned Down Amazon dress shirts. The first review was for the tailored fit, which I liked quite a bit. Although I was pretty sure it was what I wanted, I was curious about the slim fit, so I ordered one. Now that I have had a chance to try on the slim fit, I’d say it’s the best fit I’ve ever had in a dress shirt. I’m 5’9″, 170 lbs and 71 years old. I would need to lose about 10 lbs to be at my ideal weight for my height, but by contemporary standards for guys my age, I’m in pretty good shape. If I were about 5 lbs heavier this shirt would not fit me in an appropriate way, whereas the tailored fit would. I’m giving all that info, because anyone reading reviews is likely to be trying to find a review from someone who might have a body similar to their own. For me, this shirt is the fit I would expect from a custom-tailored shirt. Unsurprisingly, it doesn’t have the fabric and construction quality of a bespoke shirt, however. I’m giving the shirt only 3 stars even though it excels as an off-the-shelf dress shirt. I’m dinging it by 2 stars for construction faults. It arrived with three tears or little cuts at the top right sleeve near the shoulder, rendering it essentially unwearable unless under a jacket, and a because there is some puckering to the stitching on the double side seams. The fabric itself looks sharp, drapes, well, resists getting too wrinkled, and is exactly the weight I hoped for. I like the spread collar profile, shape and fit. As with most formal white shirts, this one should be worn with a lightweight fine cotton T-shirt. When worn that way, little bit of transparency found in this dress shirt will not be apparent. If you’re willing to risk getting a shirt that is not ready for prime time, then consider getting this one, with the chance that it will arrive properly made. The fit is nice, and I’m ordering a replacement shirt, hoping for the best.

This fits surprisingly well out-of-package and required very little tailoring (gentlemen, please always tailor your shirts – there is no better way to spend $10 than to make a properly fitted garment. Believe me, it will pay back in spades). The poplin is soft and looks sharp, and the buttons and seam detailing show that this current generation of Amazon proprietary-label product is serious about being better than the first ones, and being competitive in the marketplace. As is, I would put this against a Calvin Klein or Kenneth Cole shirt any day. And do.

Fit has changed. The last few I bought in 2019 or so fit perfectly. The new ones (same size) are way to short. They are now barely long enough to tuck in.

Fit was good, I am not too chunky in the middle, in size 16″, the slim fit is around 40″ around the waist. This shirt will be baggy for skinny guys. I got the light blue and pink. My complaint is the fabric on the pink shirt is too sheer. I have olive color skin and (pardon my language) my wife pointed out my nipples are visible (don’t know how else to explain this). You need to wear an undershirt with the pink shirt to the office.

I just discovered this Amazon Buttoned Down brand for men’s dress shirts less than a month ago. I bought two cotton poplin shirts with a buttoned down collar in light blue and white slim fit. And I just followed up that initial purchase with two more of these point collar shirts in cotton / spandex stretch poplin and the same slim fit. These are my new favorite men’s dress shirts.
The colors……
White button down collar poplin fabric – Well, it’s white. Blue button down collar poplin fabric – A nice very light blue color that can go with just about any suit or a pair of jeans.
Navy point collar stretch poplin fabric – A true navy blue that looks great with dark wash jeans or a gray suit. Denim point collar stretch poplin fabric – Denim is a misleading name for this color. It’s more of a steel gray / blue that would go well with a navy or gray suit or just about any color jeans.
What I love….. 1.) 3 different fits…..classic, tailored, and slim. That means the vast majority of guys should be able to find a fit for their body type.
2.) You can order any of the buttoned down shirts with or without a chest pocket. Personally I don’t like the pockets.
3.) The range of sizes is the best I’ve seen anywhere. A tall skinny guy can get a 15 1/2″ neck 36″ sleeve and a small guy can get the same 15 1/2 neck with a 32″ sleeve. I’ve never seen off the shelf shirts with this range of size combinations. Once again, the vast majority of guys should be able to find an almost custom fit.
4.) The fabric is a nice feeling smooth crisp poplin. There are plenty of colors to choose from. And the manufacturing looks to yield a nice quality shirt.
5.) The prices are competitive with department stores and designer brands.
6.) The shirts go through the wash pretty well. While no cotton shirt is truly “no iron” in my opinion, 10 minutes in the dryer and then right onto a hanger will leave these easy to iron with a quick pass. That’s about as good as anything I’ve ever found. I’ve seen no shrinking so far.
As for fit, I’m 6’0″ tall and 210 lbs with a 44″ chest and 34″ waist. My build is fairly muscular with no belly fat. I usually buy dress shirts with a 16 1/2 ” neck and 35″ sleeve. So all 4 of these shirts were ordered in a Slim Fit, 16 1/2 X 35. The fit is as near perfect as I think I can get without custom tailoring. They are close fitting but comfortable without excess fabric on the sides or at the waist. The sleeves are also close fitting on my forearms and biceps. They don’t look like puffy pirate shirts. In my opinion that look is good on a guy who’s fit. If you’re packing a gut or flabby arms, you may want to check out the tailored or classic fit shirts. But that’s the beauty of this brand. They seem to have all the bases covered.
As other reviewers have noted, these are thin and light cotton dress shirts. That’s how I like my dress shirts because they tend to be cooler and breathe better. If you’re looking for a heavier, more opaque fabric these aren’t for you. You may want to look at an Oxford instead of Poplin.
Highly recommended. Hope this helps.
EDIT 2/4/2019: I just bought my 5th Buttoned Down branded shirt, another one of these stretch poplin point collar shirts in White. Now I’ve got the point collars in Navy Blue, Denim Blue, and White. I have the button down collar in Light Blue and White. I’m still loving the fit and they are holding up well in the wash. No problems with the colors or shrinking. I’ve had a few compliments on the fit.

I would not suggest purchasing this shirt. In fact, I am actively against it.
Pros: The fabric is nice. It has a good stretch and appears to be of reasonable quality.
Cons: Construction is poor (placket should be reinforced, collar should be reinforced, missing either rear-side pleats or box pleat in back, lacks single needle tailoring). Maybe pleats are not needed on this shirt because of the stretch. Arm holes are too large for modern fit.
I wouldn’t call this shirt slim fit. It’s bigger than the shirts I get from other well-known traditional shirt makers who offer slim shirt styles. I am 5′ 11″ and 165 lbs.
The shirt was relatively inexpensive at discount and probably worth what I paid for it. But would not get it again, and recommend against you purchasing it too.
