Love these pens as they write beautifully, but this colour is difficult to get in the UK. A box of these cost a lot less coming from the USA than what I could see available from the UK!

Since the early 80’s architectural and design firms had one thing in common. (Ok two) They always had buckets and buckets of “Pilot Fineliners” and “PaperMate Flair” felt pens. They were the industry standards and both excelled in their purposes.
Sadly the times have changed and while Pilot Fineliners have remained the same great classic product, the PaperMate Flair has become an infinitely more inferior product that pales in comparison to the original. In short do not buy this pen if you’re looking for a Papermate flair of the 80’s and 90’s and pre 2008 ish
Like many of the reviews before me….why change something that wasn’t broken?
What you need to do is to go back to the original design. Get rid of the point guard and go back to the all felt bolder tip. (see photos below for comparison)
The original larger all felt tip (without the point guard) allowed for more expressive lines. One could vary the line from bold by using the side of the felt (which you can’t do with the point guard) to a finer line by using the tip. Similar to a pencil this allowed you to sketch with both the sides and the point. By changing the full felt tip of the old design you have changed the superb sketching felt pen of old into a normal boring writing pen.
Like many other reviewers the ink load and intensity of this new design again pales in comparison to the original flair felt pens. From the get go they seem dried out.
So like many other viewers and colleagues we are all looking for other products to take the place of the once ubiquitous PaperMate Flair. Thankfully Pilot has stepped up to the plate and now has a “Sign pen” all felt tip pen, try it out. All in all I would still prefer having my good old Flair back. I only have a few left of the hundreds I have used. Also loved the ability to make a wash with a wet finger.

Now all that being said here are the differences between the old and new Flairs (a lot of sites provide pictures of the old ones but the descriptions are of the new Flairs. So beware)

    Old
    * says PaperMate on shirt clip
    * Overall the pen casing is glossy
    * Felt pen tip was much larger with no plastic point guard
    * Bottom of pen had a 1/2″ tapered
    * No writing down barrel of pen
    * Larger more intense ink load

    New
    * doesn’t say PaperMate on shirt clip
    * Pen casing has Matt finish
    * Felt tip much smaller and has plastic point guard
    * Smaller tapered end missing
    * Has writing down barrel of pen
    * Brand new the tips seem dry and not as intense

I used to be a pilot guy, but these are really great value for the price! I find the tip a little big for my handwriting style but it’s not unusable, i have a very tiny journal so it’s just a preference.

There is a little purplish in the ink that i didn’t have in my staedler fine point, but again, it’s barely noticable, and these are really solid for the money.

Architects / sketchers / designers would probably love these as well, they have an awesome grip and despite the felt tip the ink flows really evenly (unlike some cheap markers).

Love these pens! I use them mainly for bullet journalling, but I also used them for taking notes. For being a felt tip pen they last very long. They usually get me through 2 semesters of a LOT of notes. They do run through the pages on thinner paper, but in my bullet journal, they only bled through if I held them in one spot too long.

The Paper Mate Flair Black Medium Point (.7mm) pen, has become my all day, every day, go to pen for all occasions. I use it for all of my writing needs. It’s features of the exact right line weight, black ink that doesn’t bleed through the paper and long life, make it the ideal writing instrument for me. It’s also very economical, presupposing that you remember to replace the cap after use. My favorite reason for using this pen though, is that being a felt tip, it adds a highly personalized character to my writing. It just feels good to use this pen. I give this product my highest recommendation. In other words I “sign off” on it.

( Disclaimer: Although this is a n extremely glowing review of this product, I assure you all, that I am not a stock holder of Paper Mate, nor am I a family member of the owners or a compensated endorser. I just like this pen and hope you’ll try it too. But watch out! It’s so much fun to use that it’s addictive!)

What I hoped for and finally received. Smooth writing. Though listed as medium this marker can be mistaken for a Fine point depending on how you write. How much pressure you push down on the paper when writing. I write all the time so I need a marker that can write smoothly, easily, and without putting pressure on my hand. Well this pen fits the bill. Another Papermate product INKJOY GEL is my second favorite, but sometimes it’s best not to use a gel pen and this Papermate POINT GUARD NEEDLE felt tip stick pens are just what I need.

Of utmost importance – it doesn’t bleed through! Not only to the next page, but not even the back of the page. Hurray! I used another Felt tip pens on the back page and it bled through. Luckily I bought two 12 pack boxes – but I plan to buy more. I also purchased three other (Fine point) felt tip pens / markers. I was disappointed by the other three different brands I purchased in comparison to these pens, which I plan to use daily.

Paper Mate Point Guard Flair Needle Tip Stick Pen is a writing tool that delivers the goods. I purchase them by the box and always have serval boxes on hand for my various writing projects. Every writer has their own preference. I have no problem with the flow and weight of this pen and find its simplicity does not interfere with my creative flow. Sometimes when you buy an expensive writing pen you become self-conscious, especially if the weight of the pen is heavy. Not with this one, it’s invisible giving me the reins to let my creativity fly. Check it out for you’ll not only get great delivery service, usually within two days but a great price as compared to buying one in the store. Let your creativity flow…

These pens don’t have a continuous flow of ink. I’m not sure if I have a bad batch, but they “dry” up after just a few seconds of use. I’m very disappointed as I bought an entire box of these for my kids to use to learn to draw on Youtube.
