Amazing product for the money. The outside does get dull after washing but honestly it’s a matte finish and I was expecting this once it gets washed and used as it’s not glazed. But all in all was not a deterrent. As for usability, it gets top marks for heat retention, fast heat up and searing is reliable and fast. The meals have all come up great and I have no complaints. It does not have a low or high slow cook function option though honestly this minor flaw does not bother me as I can just go ahead and use the manual function and choose temp and time, so really not a big deal. On the upside not having to use more than one pan to sear then drop into slow cooker is a bonus everything gets done in one pan. I am loving this machine so far!

Absolutely love this appliance! Made a pork roast and can honestly say it was the best I ever had! Not even remotely dry and tons of flavour. I have found today’s crockpots run extremely hot even on low setting and have never been able to produce a roast of this quality. Also made a delicious chilli – great to be able to brown and cook in one pot! Highly recommend!

I have TBI and need to cook with appliances that are very forgiving to eat healthy and remain safe. My father recently had a stroke and I lent it to him to make Chili. He loved it so much and found it so easy to make meals he hasn’t made in years. So I gave him mine and just ordered another one for myself. I understand how hard it is to struggle with short term memory and the joy when you find something that helps you feel like you still can be independent.

I finally used my Instant Dutch Oven today and made braised turkey thighs with onions, carrots, potatoes, celery, and fresh herbs. I seared the meat first, put it on a plate while I browned the onions, put the meat back in and added the veggies and broth. Braised it for 2 hours, It took me a few minutes to understand how the settings work, but then it was fine. Meat and veggies were perfectly done by the end of the cook time, and it all tasted much better than I expected. Rich flavor, and the sweetness of the carrots blended perfectly with the savory flavors. Soooo good. The instructions book gives you enough info, and the settings have enough flexibility, that you can sort of “do your own thing” with a recipe and not mess up your food. I was very pleasantly surprised. It’s soaking now, so I’ll soon find out how easy it is to clean. This is a fun cooking vessel and I hope my success with cooking continues (I’m single and don’t cook very often). I love cooking in cast iron and I love my slow cookers, so this Instant Pot Dutch oven is my favorite new toy. If you love to cook in cast iron and love slow cookers, you will love this pot!

3/16/22 Update: It cleaned up well after I cooked the first dish, in my first review. I didn’t burn anything. The second time, I made a braised cabbage dish, and because I wasn’t familiar enough with the controls and tinkered with them too much, the cabbage took a looooong time to cook and eventually burned on the bottom. I was trying to slow cook on a high setting, but had to go back to the booklet to find out how. And the cabbage stunk up the house. This all took so long that I had burned cabbage on the bottom of the crock. I let it soak overnight and the pot actually cleaned up perfectly (I used a nylon scrubby sponge and dish deterg with a bit of ammonia). I was really impressed. I was a little too adventurous with that recipe selection. I won’t do that again until I understand this cooker. The stench cleared out of the house by the next day.

they show bread being made in this including bread on the packaging itself where in reality you can only use this to proof the bread. this would be a game changer if it could bake bread so that i can get rid of my stove completely. alas it is not to be. if you already have dutch oven and induction cooktop with timer dont get this. so one star for deceptive marketing. it works fine otherwise except that the heating is only at the bottom so u hhave to turn meats halfway to cook it through. if you take regular dutch oven into oven you dont have to do that since its heated from all sides. I hope they stop using advertising showing bread being made in this (wo showing regular over needed) and prevent unecessary returns. marketing person for this product should be fired.

This small appliance has a bit of a learning curve and I had to go to the internet because the user manual is lacking. But there are many things I like about this kitchen tool:
    1. The saute/sear function. I made a pot roast and it was so nice to sear the meat first and then just throw in the juices and veggies. Turned out perfect. (Sear heats to 400°, so don’t throw in your meat and walk away.)
    2. The slow cooker function heats to 203°. This is just slightly above a normal slow cooker low of ~190°, which is what I like to use.*
    3. But if you’re in a hurry or short of time, there is a Manual Mode where you can adjust the temperature higher. Just be careful: Manual Mode 2 reaches 400°.**
    4. Cooking time and temps can be adjusted.
    5. This comes with very clever silicone handle holders which you just slip on the hot handles if you need to lift the pot out–and a round silicone pad to set the hot pot upon. From kitchen to table.
*Although the function says “slow cooker”, like the Instant Pot, this only heats from the bottom. Put thicker, denser items on bottom and I wouldn’t advise cooking without liquids included. I also stir periodically. Also, as said, if you need a higher heat, use Manual Mode.
**I advise “playing around” with the different modes before adding ingredients. Adjusting times/temps took some practice and although I read there is a Manual Mode 1 & 2, I haven’t found 2 yet. And don’t expect the timer sound to be very audible. Typical IP volume.
This all being said, the more I use it, the more I appreciate what it can do. But I still have my Slow Cooker because sometimes I want that all-around heat.

I just got my new Instant Electric Dutch Oven and I love it! It’s a great deal compared to other name brand Dutch ovens and I love the versatility of it. My first meal i made in it was Boeuf Bourguignon and I was able to do it all right there without using the stove or oven (and it turned out amazing), but I could use it in the stove or in the oven if I want to! It has precise settings to sauté, sear, slow cook, braise and keep warm and it’s great that I can set it and walk away and not have to worry about it cooking too long like I would in the oven, since it goes to keep warm when it’s done. It comes with nice silicone handles, a silicone mat and a recipe book with really tasty looking recipe’s. To top it off, it came in a really cool box.

I am very happy with the Precision Dutch Oven! Super easy to use, super easy to clean. I was surprised at how heavy it is, but the weight is manageable. I first made the bread recipe included with the Dutch Oven. It didn’t proof as well as it should have, but I think that may be user error. I then made a Mississippi Pot Roast. This dish is a staple in my house. I can honestly say it was THE best version I have ever cooked. The sear at the beginning was perfect. I slow cooked it for 8 hours (normal crock pot time). Great flavor, fall apart meat! Clean up was very easy – easily washed with a dish sponge, no scrubbing needed.

So sturdy – did my first stew yesterday. Fabulous. The ability to sear the meat before slow cooking in this pot is amazing. Love it.

4.5 stars! I’m an admitted small appliance fan and this has been a great addition. I love the Instant Pot brand and I use my 8 quart and 3 quart pressure cookers often.

This has a finished cast iron so washing and care is far easier than a traditional cast iron piece. The pot and lid are heavy of course. It’s recommended to use the included silicone trivet underneath during cooking. They also include two silicone handle covers for moving the pot when warm/hot. They are not to be used during cooking. This is a Dutch oven as well as a slow cooker. It also has a warming capability.

My best advice is to do your warranty right away, wash it up, bring your booklet over and start pressing buttons and turning the knob. Go through your booklet and learn how to turn sound on an off, change settings, have Celsius or Fahrenheit, etc. Then look at each function by pressing its button and seeing what temps are available or preset, what times are available, etc. Manual Mode 1 and 2 have more temp options than the others where the presets may not work for your recipe. While you may start a recipe by searing meat, you may need to switch to manual mode for other ingredients.

The slow cook function has a preset of 203F which is a bit higher than low on a regular slow cooker (typically about 190F). Low is better in slow cooking in most instances anyway. So if you use that function, use the directions for low. However, you have the option to go to Manual Mode if you need something else and don’t have the time for low. I do wish the slow cook function included a temperature range between low and high like a regular slow cooker, rather than going to manual mode. Either way, the job gets done though, I guess.

The sear/sauté function is awesome. Searing on cast iron takes things to another level. I’ve attached pictures of tenderloins I seared and then used the braise function after. They sat upon an onion-apple mixture. They looked and tasted fantastic. One picture is cloudy due to the steam clouding the lens of my phone. The flavour profile was just amazing and the meat was done perfectly. If you aren’t familiar with braising, research it. It’s a great method. My next braising adventure will include spare ribs.

It does come with a recipe booklet for some things to try. I would recommend that before branching out. Dutch oven recipes out there are for camping, the stovetop, or a regular oven. Recipes will need to be adapted somewhat.

While this pot can be used on a stovetop or in the oven, the base is there so that you don’t need to. However, if you proof bread in it, it will have to move it to the oven to bake.

I have already made good use of this and I know I will be using it often, just like I use my IP pressure cookers. It is pricey, but a good Dutch oven is also very pricey. In this case, you get the Dutch oven AND a slow cooker. It’s a fantastic addition to my kitchen.

NOTE: While this is stated to be dishwasher-safe, I prefer hand washing to preserve its life as much as possible. Part of that is that it’s pretty heavy for a dishwasher rack. I want to handle it and move it the least amount I can to avoid dropping it onto my toes or my floor. Maybe that’s more caution than some want, but I want to protect my investment and myself. I’m also careful in how I hand-wash it by resting it on the trivet by my sink as I wash it out. Then I rinse under the tap, set down on the trivet and dry immediately. For the lid, I hold the handle and wash in the sink, rinse, and dry immediately.
