When I started hosting an exchange student from China, I knew I would need to get better at cooking rice. (Seriously, I’m bad at it- half of my rice always sticks to the bottom of the pan.) This Hamilton Beach rice cooker was one of the cheapest ones. And it isn’t a combo-appliance: It cooks rice. That’s it. It does come with a steam basket, which we haven’t tried yet. It is super easy to use: Measure, pour, flip the switch, rice is perfectly cooked. The non-stick pot inside is so easy to clean. I give it a rinse to remove the starch and then wipe it done and I’m done. It’s small and doesn’t take up a lot of space. The only thing I don’t really care for is the on-switch. When you plug it it, you turn it on. Once on, there are two settings: On (for cooking) and Warm (for after cooking). There is no timer, but given the price tag, that’s not a huge surprise. It takes about 20-25 minutes to make perfect rice, which is about what it would take to cook it on the stove. But I haven’t messed up a pot of rice since. You can also cook grains and breakfast cereals, but I haven’t tried that yet. If you are the kind of cook who wants a diverse appliance or if you want the next generation crock pot/ pressure cooker that basically cooks food “Instantly”, then this isn’t for you. I didn’t want to spend $125 on a “pot” that I wasn’t really going to use for anything but rice. So I chose this. And my exchange student from China gives it his seal of approval.

I have been using this rice cooker for 6 months now before reviewing it. I love this product. I think it is perfect for 1-2 person. The rice cooker is small and easy to carry around because of its size and light weight. My favorite feature is the cooking pot inside. It is definitely non-stick and super easy to wash! This is beyond my expectations. I have used other rice cookers, and after a few usage, the pot will become hard to wash and has rice sticking at the bottom. However, not this product! Everytime I cook rice, there is no rice stuck at the bottom. No burnts! (See photo, the pot still looks like new! There is normal wear and tear on the outter part of the pot, but the inside part is like new.)

Rice also cooks perfectly when you fill the water to the indicated level. Product comes with a very straightforward manual too. There is only one thing I was confused when I got the rice cooker, is how to open the water drainage cup at the side of the cooker. You just have to press the bottom of that little cup so it opens up and you can empty it. (See photo)
Also, the inner part of the lid is removable so you can clean it! I recommend this product!

    Steaming works well too.

Love it! Used to have a similar one from Sanyo but they stop manufacturing it. This one is great, within 15 minutes the rice is ready, easy to clean. Not a single rice stick in the pot, really non stick, no wastage & cute! I had one 7 years ago and 2019 I bought another one, the old was a little bit worn out, I love thing to be perfect. Highly recommended!

I’ve made scrambled eggs, soft boiled eggs, spaghetti and meatballs, mac and cheese, lentils, beans, oh! and rice with this thing. It’s a lifesaver in my dorm room where I’m sharing one kitchen with a couple hundred other people – I only need the kitchen maybe once or twice a week since I’ve got this thing! 100% buy it if you’re a college student, it’ll pay for itself by the money you save cooking in instead of eating out.

    Recipe tips:
    Spaghetti and meatballs
Precooked frozen meatballs, whole wheat pasta, jarred sauce of choice. Put pasta in (as flat as possible, something like macaroni works well here, or just break spaghetti in half.) and cover with water until it’s just a fingertip above the pasta. Add a dash of vegetable or olive oil (this prevents the water from bubbling out the steam vent.) Put meatballs in the steamer tray and close the lid. Turn on the machine. When it dings, unplug immediately and pull out the meatballs, use the rice spoon to make sure no pasta sticks to the bottom and if it did just scrape it off right away. Add sauce and stir, then close the lid to let it all get warm together. Enjoy!

    Scrambled eggs:
With the lid open, press the bucket down and press cook. Hold the bucket down or it won’t stay on cook! Add butter and eggs at the same time, starting to stir right away with the rice paddle. Continue stirring gently as the eggs slowly start to cook. You can take breaks from stirring if you like larger curds, but I’m a fan of the Gordon Ramsay technique so I stir the whole time. Once the eggs start to stick together and look close to done but still soft, add shredded cheese and stir. Lift your hand from the side of the bucket and let it turn to warm, close the lid and let the eggs finish setting, just a minute. Season with salt and pepper, spread on toast, add hot sauce if desired. Bon appetit!

First time I’ve ever been able to make fool proof fluffy Basmati rice! But not by following the instructions in the booklet! Here’s what you do: 1) rinse the rice in water to remove starch (I swoosh rice + water it in a pot, drain, repeat, until water runs clear. Takes a while but worth it!) 2) soak the rice for twenty minutes to one hour 3) drain soaking water and add rice plus an equal amount of fresh water to cooker, and set it to go. So for example, one REAL cup Basmati plus one REAL cup of water makes perfect rice every time. Cute little rice cooker that is the perfect size for my small family.

I struggled with whether or not to buy one of these because really, did I need it? I have an instant-pot (two actually) and a stove, among other appliances. But a new stove with burners that just didn’t seem to be able to go low enough, was causing me to struggle making rice. Making rice! One of the easiest things to make and I’ve made it for years but suddenly I couldn’t make it properly.
Cue the plethora of articles that showed up in my in box urging me to buy either this model or a bigger pricier one that starts with Z. I decided it was a sign from the universe and chose the cheaper model to try.
Honestly, my instant pot just got rotated to the back of the pile in favor of this little unit. Of course other things like an air fryer are still close at hand but I’m surprised by how often I have used this for rice, grits, steelcut oats and even steaming broccoli when we really only needed a very small serving. If you have the space for this tiny item, try it!

It cooked perfect rice for the first 2 times, now the rice will just become so mushy. I measure water with a cup everytime. I tried switching it back to cook, but after 5 minutes it will just switch back to warm with mushy rice. I am very disappointed. The coat of the pot is good, though. No rice stick to the bottom.

I was happy in the beginning and I love and trust hamilton beach products. I have Hamilton beach coffee machine, hamilton beach toaster oven and microwave as well. All of them are amazing believe me. But I don’t know why this rice cooker got damaged like that. The handle broke easily. I’m so so disappointed with this purchase and the price was not consistent with the quality. πŸ™ so sad

The first impression I had with this rice cooker was cute and lovely. The second impression when I opened it was the inner pot was very strong chemical smell! I hesitated to use it to cook something I’m going to put into my mouth. I boiled over than ten times of water and vinegar to try to get rid of that smell. The smell reduced but still noticeable.

I was looking for sending it back, but this rice cooker actually came from America, lots of haste to to do so. And BTW it’s only $29.9 on, I’d pay full price $49.9 for better quality getting an item inside Canada rather than pay $20 shipping from America!

I am quite pleased with this Hamilton-Beach 37508 Rice Cooke. This is the best rice cooker I have ever used. I’ve used this about a dozen times since I bought this 3 weeks ago. Perfect for 1 person and up to 3 people. Cooks rice perfectly every time. Never sticks to the pot. Being oriental rice is a main staple in my life. I think the thing that makes this work so much better than many of the cheaper brands is that it has a locking lid and a moisture collector. Never seen a moisture collector before but it really seems to do the trick.

I do a lot of meal prepping and cooking for myself as a guy who lives alone. I was consistently using “boil in bag” products. Well, this bad boy here has solved all of that. Its extremely easy to use (and smells great when it’s cooking.) You just wash the rice to get rid of all the starch, put in the cooker and fill to the desired line. Flip the switch and just a few minutes later you have perfectly cooked rice.

It also does a lot of other grains and comes with a streaming basket as well for veggies.

Most importantly: it is extremely easy to clean. The little rice holder is made of a very nice material which gets the hard pieces out pretty easy.
