I really like this product. I use it everyday. The spices included were not all of the spices I would want. So I added some with the free refills. You can write on the tops easy with chalk to modify the label. I saw an identical spice rack at Macy’s for $70. So I was please to get mine for half that. And I get free slice refills for 5 years. I just pay shipping.

Tl,dr: the look is adorable, the functionality of the rack and tops of bottles is meh, and the spices depends on what you’re looking for. I’d definitely buy it again!
The appearance of the spice rack sold me instantly. They look like little potion bottles, how cute is that!! The bottles are glass with plastic tops, and the metal rings can be removed to reveal a slotted and open hole (think like the top on a pitcher). I just screw off the top and pinch/pour out what I need.
The actual rack is almost entirely plastic which is unfortunate as it isn’t very sturdy (it kinda rocks around anytime you mess with it).
Another issue I saw was the diversity of ingredients, but I was satisfied with what I got! I liked that it didn’t just come with the basic spices that I already had (like garlic/onion powder, red pepper flakes, etc). I like that I got to search up and try new recipes to use the spices (look up marjoram cookies, they were great!!).

Don’t be fooled by the “free refills”. You have to pay for shipping and handling, but they have a tier of charges. Considering that the refills are shipped in bags, not bottles, I can’t justify $22 for 20 bags which probably weighs no more than a pound.
They also don’t have a wide selection of spices that one might use every day and if you fill with your own favorites, they don’t sell blank labels or anything to mark the jar without making it look ugly.
First off, yes the lids are plastic. Those reviews are helpful. One of mine was broke when we put it together. We contacted Kamenstein and the shipped us another, we received it within a week. Be sure to give them your model and mailing address if you emailing them about a defect. They have great customer service. Second, I noticed no one has written a review about the spices, I ordered 10 the same day we received the spice rack, we got them within a week. You get 10 for 10$ shipping. Not bad for a buck a piece. I would definitely get this as a wedding gift, or one of my kids first home away form home. All in all, I love this rack, it’s great for small family’s that cook small meals.

When I read that this product came with 5 years of free spice refills, I thought, wow, just the savings from that will probably cover the cost of the product in the long run. However, when I got the product I was pretty disappointed with the spice selection because most of them are never needed in most recipes.
Here’s what came with mine: Marjoram, Fennel Seed, Bay Leaves, Basil, Celery Salt, Italian Seasoning, Rosemary, Herbs de Provence, Chives, Sea Salt, Coriander, Pizza Seasoning, Oregano, Parsley, Crushed Mint, Seasoning Salt
Ok, granted, oregano and rosemary aren’t bad, but note that none of the following spices were included: Chili Powder, Cinnamon, Cumin, Curry Powder, Garam Masala, Garlic Powder, Ground Cardamon, Ground Ginger, Nutmeg, Onion Powder, Paprika, Pepper of any kind (black, cayenne, red pepper flakes, white), Smoked Paprika, Thyme, and Tumeric.
The annoying thing is that the jars come pre-labeled with the names of the crappy spices they send, so I ended up also getting myself a label maker to change the names of all the spices. I’m also hoping that the residual spice left in the jars I emptied doesn’t contaminate what I replaced them with.
As an engineer, the design choice that most annoyed me was that the jars weren’t made large enough to hold all the spice that cones in the typical spice jar size you find at most grocery stores. Consequently, unless you want to throw out like 2 tablespoons of spice every time you buy more, you have to hold onto the spice jar with the remaining spice until you use it in your cooking. That somewhat defeats the purpose of having a setup to avoid a shelf full of annoying spice jars.
As for the product itself, it feels a tad cheap (it’s basically all plastic) but it’s a good size to put on the counter or in a cupboard. It spins very smoothly as well, and the jars snap in snugly such that I don’t feel concerned about the jars falling off the rack if I happen to spin it a bit fast. I actually got two of these since I have a lot of spices on hand and they fit nicely together in a cupboard. I’d probably recommend storing the spices alphabetically to save you even more time when you’re looking for what you need.

I bought the Kamenstein and the Old Thompson designs because I wanted the different spices from each (there were 8 doubles between the two and 8 originals). I really love the Kamenstein over the Old Thompson for the for the following reasons. 1. The Kamenstein spins cleanly where the Old Thompson sticks a little. It’s not a big deal to me, but may be to some. 2. The caps on the Kamenstein are the kind that you push down on one side to choose shake or pour. The Old Thompson are the kind you have to use your fingernail to lift up. A pain when just needing a quick spice. 3. The Kamenstein offers free spice refills for 5 years.

The spice rack has the perfect selection of spices. Doesn’t take up much room on the counter. And who can pass up free spice refills for five years! Great deal!
