The Owlet Cam 2 is a solid option for Baby Monitor. This was not my first Owlet product, so I have already set up an account and have the app installed on my phone. That being said, being WiFi a smart phone with the Owlet application is essential. There is no specific control monitor screen otherwise. This is the major set apart for the Owlet Cam 2. It is web enabled, so once set-up, transmits the video through WiFi versus having to have a separate monitor screen with you that communicates with the camera. This makes it so as long as my phone is on me in the house, I have the monitor with me. It is also enjoyable, as I’ve had to return to work and my wife is home with the baby. I have the luxury of peeking in even away from home. With the peek in, there is a microphone allowing me to speak. The video quality itself is advertised as HD. I do believe the quality appears HD, but on the lower resolution side of the HD spectrum. You are able to make out clearly everything in the screen. Quality will auto adjust, or be manually selected. Regardless, it is clear enough to see baby breathing and location of mouth/nose, which is my biggest concern with a monitor image. For my WiFi, overall delay appears to be between 2-3 seconds. There is a large camera angle included, showing a wide view of the room. I have the monitor placed at a 45 degree toward a wall and can see at about 90 degree off from midline. There is also a night-vision feature which is adequate when the lights are near off. The main display screen includes temperature and humidity. Which assists in important monitoring, as both are essential to a happy and well controlled environment for baby!
With monitoring, the app provides for background sound to be toggled on. This enables one to use the phone for other purposes while still having noise come through, allowing one to hear baby crying or upset while still utilizing one’s phone for other activities. Sound itself may be toggled on and off also, to allow for more subtle monitoring (or peeking in from away while busy). There is also sleep functions enabled within the app, including predictive sleep or pairing with other Owlet technology available at this time. Video clips may be collected.
The most difficult part of this camera is set up. Initially, looking at the base it appears one will need to use two nails/screw to mount but it is a two piece mount. The mount gets placed to the wall with one screw, then the camera attaches to the mount at two contact points (screw is included!) There is a cover included to place over wire (as camera is not chargeable, but plugged in to a USB-C adapter). Once plugged in pairing requires a QR code on phone to be scanned by camera, this was the difficult part… however, I eventually got it. I found leaving phone still and moving camera worked best. But overall, camera set-up (with mount) took less than 15 minutes, efficient, if slightly frustrating with the QR scan.
In summary this is a fantastic option for WiFi enabled baby monitoring. The app is clear and allows for setting changes which is always fabulous. I trust this camera to allow good visualization of my little one!

We like the Owlet Cam 2, but it could do with a couple of features.
The box comes neatly packaged and has all you need to mount the monitor to the wall, save for some tools to do it. The box included a lot of cable guards, too, but we didn’t use these. The magnetic base is powerful, holding the monitor good and snug. The monitor has a bit of trouble positioning itself with the resistance caused by the cable.
The video quality comes out great as long as it has a good connection. Even night vision looks clear. We enjoy the wide angle lens compared to the standard lens that we are used to. One thing I like about the app is that you can set the noise to come through while it’s in the background, leaving you to lock your phone or use other apps while it acts like a monitor. It took us a while to learn of this feature but it’s very useful through the night. The app will alert you to noise or cries that it picks up, but it doesn’t make much sense to use this type of notification if you set your app to play sound in the background because these noises can sometimes be a false alarm.
Neither the box nor any instructions informs you to download a certain app. I downloaded the Owlet Nest app which has instructions for adding the Owlet Cam 2, but it never wanted to connect. It took well over an hour for me to learn that this wasn’t going to work, and so I reached out to tech support. I learned through them very quickly that only the Owlet Dream app works. After downloading this, we had no issues. This was a bit of an oversight on their end. Why there are no instructions to download a specific app, and why the wrong app gives you the ability to set up the Cam 2, I have no idea.
Please be advised that the Cam 2 does not work with a 5GHz network! It must be 2.4 GHz, so if you don’t have this, you’ll need to set up a dual-band network that way in order to use the monitor. This is part of the reason why my setup took forever; I wasn’t sure if I was having issues due to the type of network I had, so it took me some digging into all of my network settings to ensure that this was not the issue.
We like the Owlet Cam 2, but the instructions left us very frustrated with what should have been a quick and easy setup. We’re also very wary of the fact that you cannot physically turn off the monitor or otherwise blind or mute it without unplugging it. It would have been nice for there to at least be a button or switch on the camera itself in order to do this. This is a huge missing feature in my opinion. This isue along with some other issues I’ve stated in my review have caused me to rate it a little lower than it could have been.

The perfect way to keep an eye on your little one, without actually being in the room. You install the camera (mounting hardware included if you want to use it), and it streams audio and video of your baby to an app you install on your phone or tablet. I’m not sure if it was my phone being a couple of years old or not, but it did seem to have a notable hit on the battery life when the app was running. For the purpose of testing I made sure to keep the power cord plugged in to the phone once I noticed the battery drain. Picture was nice and clear, even with minimal night-light lighting. It was nice to know I could be “in the same room” as my grand daughter regardless of what room of the house I was in. Not sure if it was a fault of the app or not but we noticed some issues with the app force-closing when more than one person tried to view at the same time. It very-well may be a limitation of the application though, so I can’t complain. Overall I give the device 4 out of 5 stars – only because I couldn’t give it 4.5 or 4.75 stars 🙂

We have been using a different camera to keep tabs on our little on for a while now, but it is a regular indoor camera that is meant more for security than peace of mind. The Owlet Cam 2 not only offers quick and easy setup, but the peace of mind you didn’t even know you wanted! The app is very easy to use and walks you through the setup process, including installation of the camera and safe practices for the cords to ensure your little one is safe from hazards like the power cord and the device itself. Included in the box is the charger and cable, mounting bracket, and cable covers to hide the power cable from becoming a danger and an eyesore. The unit comes with everything you need in the box, except a smartphone and young one! The app displays all of the usual items one has come to expect from a home camera, but also includes the temperature and humidity of the area to ensure they are comfortable. The camera is also capable of night vision, two-way voice communication, cry/motion/sound notifications to alert your attention to your young one’s needs.
I would definitely recommend this for new parents all the way up to older kids, the feature set built in and the fun facts in the app ensure that you will be able to continue using the Owlet Cam 2 well beyond their toddler years!

Does not work with mesh wifi systems. Only works with a dedicated 2.4ghz internet connection. I was hoping this camera would work and tried everything. I’d recommend going with the Nanit. It works great and comparable in price.

The instructions were easy to understand. Super easy to install. The set up was simple and has a good user interface on the app.
Good quality in the app creation. The app notifies for movement and sound, we can be a lot for a fussy baby.
The cord protectors are very important for safety. That is very intuitive for setup and thinking ahead so that lose cords don’t get tied up or prevent a hazard for the baby.
The good part is you can set the sensitivity level. It even tells you the temperature of the room and if it’s ok for baby.
Preference is a cloud based video log for the ability to review video with the alerts vs. only the live feed option. The camera is very clear and can be zoomed in when on the app. Depending on the lightening and how far you zoom with determine the video quality.
We really like this wifi baby monitor. You can’t go wrong with this baby monitor, trust me. All in all great product.
Pros definitely outweigh the cons on this baby owlet cam and I believe the sock is a hood option also.

I like all of the owlet products I’ve tried so far but have one big issue with them, they still make you use 2.4 vs. 5 for your wifi and I just upgraded to a new wifi that does NOT make it easy to switch between the bands. Set up once you get your wifi figured out is pretty easy. The app walks you through everything and does the majority of the work for you. The camera is clear and the night vision is excellent. Sometimes it seems like the notifications for movement come in slowly but that might be due to the wifi issue as well. I will say the new cam 2 is better than the original cam. It connects with my sock nicely though and all of the O2 and heart rate features are working as they should. I like the new predictive sleep on the app, it’s not as clunky as the old sleep suggestions they offered when the dream sock came out. There are a lot of nice improvements in this camera however I can’t give it 5 stars until they make it so you aren’t restricted with the wifi bands anymore. I would recommend this to anyone with a baby, we all got covid after two years of avoiding it and this camera and the sock combined are the only thing that gave me peace of mind at night and let me try to get some rest too. We haven’t had any bad alerts or anything since using the new cam 2 so I can’t speak to that but everything else is running so smoothly that I think those would work just fine. I do really like this and will love it when they aren’t so restrictive with the wifi. All around the owlet products are great

This camera will currently only work on a 2.4GHz network so be sure you have that available and not only a 5GHz connection, or a dual-band router. This cam is currently not compatible with a 5GHz network. That said, I spent a lot of time with my ISP trying to set up a dedicated 2.4GHz network separately from my main network (which is dual-band). To make matters worse, this information is not printed on the outside of the retail box anywhere, so the setup frustration was magnified because of this.
I could get to the point of setup where you need to scan a QR code, but that was where it ends. I couldn’t go any further because my router is dual-band and uses both 2.4 and 5GHz networks. Once you get to the point where you need to scan the QR code in setup, you are supposed to hear a “chime” to move forward. This chime never becomes audible, therefore I cannot get this camera to work properly with my home wifi system.
The error code I received is OC01. After a quick Google search, I found an article from Owlet and several remedies to try. I exhausted each and every remedy with no luck.
As stated before, I was on a call with my ISP for over an hour setting up a split connection and separate SSID for 2.4GHz only. This still did not work, so I forced my phone to “forget” all networks except the newly setup 2.4GHz connection as a final try. I then factory reset the camera by pressing the little round button on the back for 15 seconds, then retried setup being ONLY connected to the 2.4GHz connection. No luck.
Hoping that they can update this (out of box) to be compatible with a firmware update to save some people a lot of time and effort.
