Happy with my first ever macbook. Its been 3 weeks now of usage.
Pros: light, slim, fast, great graphics, love the speaker volume, awesome touch screen bar, and keyboard is super comfortable for a touch typist. Cons: adjustment from windows to ios takes time and a lot of patience. I go to youtube to assist me with some tutorial. When using speaker during video call or zoom meeting for 2-3 hours macbook heats up. I mean hot. To reduce the heat build up, I use earphone during video meetings or watching movies while multitasking. And the fan is loud! Its kinda disturbing but it will turned off after 2-3mins. It only has 2 usb ports. Need to buy a hub for my printer cable and magtech cable. But Im keeping this baby.

I’m a software developer student.
First semesters I worked with a HP Envy x360 touch screen, 12gb RAM, 750gb HDD, 15.6” screen.
But I always wanted to have a MacBook because I’ve heard they are powerful. Also because I need to know how to operate both windows and Mac.
I purchase this 13”, 8gb RAM, 512gb SSD MacBook and couldn’t be happier.
Let’s start, screen is smaller than the one on the HP, yes, and is not touchscreen, also yes BUT, quality is wayyyy better. Just a couple of days ago me and wife were at the pool working with both laptops and on HP you could barely see the content because of the sub but in the MacBook everything sees clearly as if we were indoors.
Speed, is just incredible, even though the HP has 12gb of RAM and this has 8gb, this one is way faster. Visual Studio Code, Atom, Xcode, and those kind of programs open in about 3 seconds while on the HP it takes about 40 seconds.
Also I’m usually working with both chrome and safari, atom or VS Code, terminal, GitHub, Evernote and some other apps and it runs incredibly fast. I’m just too impressed. Never had a lag or something.
Truly they know how to optimize software and hardware to make it work like a charm.
Turning on device takes around 8 seconds because of the SSD. Which is amazing.
What I love is how simply it was to learn how to use it, coming from windows. There are just so many things you can do with the trackpad that I’m impressed. It’s a time saver.
By the way, about the trackpad. I don’t think there’s one better on the market than this one. Is not just how it feels but all the things you can do with it.
The touchBar has been criticized a lot and I just cannot understand why, for me, is great, you have a lot of options there depending on what you’re doing or what app you’re working on, so I find myself using it to get things faster without needing to use the trackpad or going to the menu to find stuffs. Software is too smart so you’ll always find great options on the touchBar when you’re working.
The way apps installation and uninstall works is amazing. No more weird processes like Windows, just drag the app icon to the Applications folder and Boom, it’s installed already. If you wanna uninstall it just drag and drop to the bin folder and that’s it.
I do have an Apple Watch and an iPhone too so being able to get messages, calls, files, etc thru all 3 devices is great.
The only thing I don’t like is that it comes with NO USB port, just 2 usb-c BUT easily solved with a hub from Amazon for $17 which includes USB, HDMI and usb-c.
