I received this product for free from Mattel in return for my honest review. The packaging is absolutely delightful, and draws you in right away. It’s sturdy, and the doll is well-secured (a little too well-secured, in my opinion; the tabs on the head were a bit hard to get off, and we lost a curl on her head from the scissors). The helmet fits securely, even with the communicator on her head. The visor moves up and down. The backdrop of the cardboard insert is exciting, and shows NASA. My daughter was very excited to see this doll (she likes astronomy), and immediately started playing with it. I’m looking forward to other dolls in this series! This doll is great especially since it is also an inspiring doll. The doll has limbs that bend to be posed. The helmet doesn’t comfortably fit on the head with the curly hair, but it’s still a great doll. My daughter plays with it daily and puts it back on the stand. This doll is pretty cool. I was pleasantly surprised to see an astronaut Barbie! As a mother of three girls, (and one boy) I want my daughters to understand they can be whatever they want to be. Only so much can be said to them to help them understand this fact, so this Barbie is a great toy to let them explore and pretend to have their dream job! It comes with a clear plastic stand to display her on, as well as a helmet for her outer space trips. The only issue I have is how crazy her hair is with her helmet on – she can’t even see! I guess that’s part of being a girl though….haha! Very happy with this empowering Barbie overall. [This review was collected as part of a promotion.]

Got the Sally Ride Barbie doll for my 32 month old daughter but my 7yr old son ended up keeping it. It is very detailed and comes with a head microphone, helmet, stand and a certificate of authenticity. The reason my son ended up keeping it is because he loves reading biographies and NASA, and the doll is more of a collector’s piece than an actual playing doll. Of course the acrylic stand broke within a day and the front part of the helmet where you can open and close came apart too. The helmet is a tight fit especially with all the curly hair and the headpiece. It does look nice on the bookcase next to his biography books including the Sally Ride biography book he asked for. It would be nice if they had a place to place the helmet besides on the ground or on her head. Tried to get her to hold it but it slipped right off in couple of seconds, maybe a little belt snap on her uniform. Overall, it is a great doll for collectors and a great inspirational doll for girls. [This review was collected as part of a promotion.]

My 7 year old daughter absolutely LOVED her Sally Ride Barbie. She loved the astronaut uniform, the helmet, the shoes and everything else. She talks about it often and looks forward to playing with it when we get home. It helped her dream bigger and she says she wants to be an astronaut (or a veterinarian) when she grows up. As a mom its great to see Barbie is something other than skimpy clothes or a bikini! I feel good about my daughter playing with this doll. Highly recommended!
