Update your Firmware! The Twinkly lights are still too expensive to outfit a tree. For $65 should have bullet-proof software and have modern wifi tech. I got my sets at $39.99, but still squirmed a bit. A good sized tree would need about 8 sets @26 ft each. I chose to do a pvc square for a eindow display.

Most customizable lights out there. They are so bright and love that you can sync them with other Twinkly light strings to carry the design around different aspects of your holiday light display using the Twinkly app on the cellphone. A set of 100 is good for about a 4′ tree or to wrap around a window or door. I’m an early adopted of this lighting technology. You can’t even by them in stores except specialty stores, like BestBuy and Christmas Designers. I bought these last year and added a few more sets of 100, 250, 400, and 600, and the icicle version. I am now up to 13 sets for my outdoor trees and front porch. the only downside is that you cannot sync RGB type with RGB+W type lights from Twinkly. My icicle lights are RGB+W, so I have to change them separately from the other lights. Not a deal breaker though, however, I wish I would have bought the RGB icicle lights for that reason.
I would say these are pretty durable overall when compared with other lights I’ve used over the years.
These lights will teach you some patience, so I hope you have some. It takes time to link each set to wi-fi in the Twinkly app. It also takes forever to upgrade the firmware. Mapping the lights seems to be improved over last year’s process in the app.
Twinkly’s customer service is based in Italy, but they have been responsive. I had a power supply quit from a set I bought last year, and they sent me a free one without much effort on my part to get them a couple details to approve the replacement.

I randomly ran across this line of “smart” lights last week and picked up a couple of the 100-light sets to mess around with. I’ll say up front that I’m very happy with them. Here’s a few random notes on my experience.
The first thing I wondered was exactly how long the lighted portion of the string actually is. The specs for the 100-light set is 26.25 feet. I’ve attached a photo showing the distance between each light is 3 inches. With a 100-light set, there’s 99 spaces between each light, meaning your actual lighted length is 24.75 feet.
Upon first plugging in the lights, I was very pleased with how bright they are. I don’t see an official listed brightness anywhere off a quick google search but they’re definitely sufficient. The colors are extremely vibrant and show very well in the dark.
On an iPhone 13, I didn’t really have any issues getting them connected. On the first strand, I did have to try it a couple of times, then restart the app to get it to go, but I believe that’s because I had already launched the app and had it searching before I held down the button on the lights to put it into findable mode. The app doesn’t seem to like searching before there’s something to search for. On the second strand of lights, I first put the lights into findable mode and then launched the app, no problems. I was within a foot of the lights with my phone and they read each other fine.
My two strands of lights are wrapped around the two small columns on my front porch so I really can’t comment on the scan. I did do a scan but since they’re just wrapped around, it seemed kind of pointless, so I deleted it.
There’s more than enough patterns built-in and downloadable to keep me entertained and switching it up every night. A few of the patterns rely on a “curtain” of lights but a lot of them still look good just randomly wrapped around my porch columns. Of note is that by default, it considers the very last light on the string to be the “top”, so if you’re doing effects like falling snow, then you’ll want to mind how you hang your lights vertically.
Lastly, there is a somewhat hidden “sync” option on the last tab of the app. Where I had two strings of lights, I couldn’t initially find a way to make them do the same thing at the same time. I set them both individually to the same pattern, which was changing through colors, but they were going through different colors. After I couldn’t find a way to link them, I instead starting trying to time when to turn the second string on so the colors would get close. I eventually found the small chain icon in the upper-right of the last tab of the app that lets you link strings together, which solved my problem.
The only thing I wish was here was a way to control the lights when I’m away from the house. The only time the app works is when you’re on the same Wi-Fi network as the lights. This is completely understandable because there is no hub or software to be able to talk to over the internet, but it would be nice if it were an option in the future.
I’ll come back and edit my review later if anything goes wrong, I’ve only had them for a week.

This is the 7th set of lights I’ve purchased as I continue to grow my Christmas Light projects!! These lights are FUN!! So versatile!! I have two 600 light sets on my tree, a 200 light set on each of my four pillars and added these for a small project to sit on our porch.
Fun lights!! Easy to use and sync!!

I totally loved it. I created a Christmas tree on my wall with just the lights and a few decorations and it looked wonderful. I have a dog that loves getting under a real tree and he brings it down when he gets down, so this new faux tree was the best thing. It has different patterns and light. Could not get it to work on my phone, but it did work on my daughter’s. Not sure if it is an Android/Apple issue

I bought 2 strands of 600 last Christmas for our 12’, very wide tree. 1200 lights was just enough. It looks great and is very well lit.
I did have a hard time mapping the lights last Christmas but updates this year have corrected all the issues I had in the past. The app is far more functional now. This product is now worth every penny. Couldn’t be happier.

i started off with one set for my 7.5 ft tree.. it looked good, but I wanted to have enough lights to land a plane from space.. So, we got a 2nd set of 600…
1200 lights sounded like the perfect number, but i went with my gut and bought another 250 to put Clark W. Griswold to shame.
The app is neat where you have a lot of different presets to add to your personal strands. There are more than just xmas– you can do Halloween, Spring theme, or a US FREEDOM theme as well.
Our favorite was the candycane dance theme.

Love these lights so much I bought two more boxes of 100. I had two boxes on the tree for this picture which shows “candy cane”. Lots of fun to adjust the lights. Great price, too. I already had the tree decorated with clear lights when I bought the Twinkly lights. I just placed them over the decorated tree. Sure that next year, they will look even better with three strings.
