I’ve had one of these for about 3 years now, and really needed another one. I have one with work stuff on, and one with personal stuff on. I have literally run over one of these with my truck for work, and there was absolutely no damage at all. The only thing I did find out is that if you put two on one key ring, it is a little tricky. I did find a solution, and that’s with a wire key ring, the type that you screw into each other. These are USB 3.0, so they are super fast. These are the real deal, and not knockoffs.

I received my USB started transferring my music to Via Rekordbox and the transfer was unbelievably SLOW – I asked to return the product and was sent a QR code but when I went to the store, the QR code wouldn’t work. I e mailed the seller/Amazon weeks ago and not had any response DO NOT GET THIS IF YOU USE REKORDBOX AND IF YOU ARE WANTING TO RETURN THE ITEM DONT EXPECT A RESPONSE

PROS: Nearly indestructible exterior. Great read speeds. Decent write speeds.

CONS: Case randomly separated from the flash drive internals after pulling it out of the USB socket. The capacity is painted? etched? on the USB plug and it’s fading or blurring after years of use (not much of an issue if you label your flash drives).

An overpriced flash drive that certainly does not present as durable as Corsair has marketed it to be. After only a few months, the USB drive broke into pieces despite no harsh use or mistreatment. This was due to its cheap, plastic constriction. After NUMEROUS contacts with Corsair customer service, they seemingly refused to replace it, despite approving an RMA for the item and having received it in their processing department.

TERRIBLE customer service. Poor product design. I recommend a Samsung BAR or Lacie Extremkey instead.

The drive has become dysfunctional after using up around 100GB it now is only recognized intermittently and keeps spontaneously ejecting or shutting down. Often causes windows to scan and check it for errors, and then loses sectors and data. I suspect it could even be one of these fake chinese drives which report they are bigger ie 128GB than they actually are, and when you try and fill it up they go haywire. Very disappointed now as its become practically useless. Could it be a virus or firmware attack?

I had an older survivor 2 gig for years until my car was ransacked and it was stolen. I would have given that one 5 stars, I loved that thing, used it to death. I should have read the reviews and specifications for this one. My older one had the keychain loop on the body end not on the end that has the drive. Now I’m going to have my keys dangling off my computer instead of having the drive that simply plugs in the computer by itself and when done screws nicely back into the body. Having only the one keychain loop and on the USB end is bad design flaw, if anything have it on both ends to give you a choice. This will not get used as I intended. It feels like it’s not made as well.

The keychain and screw design is great for portability and protection, wish there were more products out there like it. Unfortunately, this product fails miserably as a reliable USB drive. The read/write times are insanely slow, practically unusable for any scenario compared to virtually any other USB flash drive. The speed of this drive is much slower than even USB 2.0, forget about getting anywhere near 3.0. I would think that my particular unit is faulty but there are other reviews saying the same thing, so this product is dubious and I cannot recommend it. My use case is with a 2017 macbook pro, connecting this USB drive to a USB-C dongle. It takes forever to index the files, and transfer speeds are painfully slow with files of all sizes. Tried copying over a folder of several gigabytes with 50+ files and the transfer slowed down to such a crawl that the progress bar simply hung in the same place after hours trying to transfer and I had to give up because I had places to be.

2 stars because technically the drive is accessible and contains the advertised amount of storage, but the actual experience of using it is complete garbage, and the issue of slow transfer speed is more than simply not living up the advertised specs. I think my unit is actually defective, but other similar reviews indicate that the chances of getting a defective one are quite high, so you should avoid this despite it’s appealing design.

There’s a couple pictures here where the top assembly of the drive will simply snap from the actual metal assembly.

If you use it as a everyday carry, and occasionally plug it into things this will happen to you. Especially if you actually have things attached to the keychain ring.

It appears that the plastic deforms from tension from either being weighed down (from the aluminum on the drive itself + whatever you have on the ring) or the other way where you have it pushing up from being too thick for a thin laptop. Enough cycling up and down and the plastic simply snaps.

The nice thing about the plastic snapping is that the pcb of the drive isn’t snapped as well. However, I would rather have the protective casing ensure it doesn’t get damaged rather the understandably vulnerable insides. Therefore though I understand it might result in a pcb snap too, I would rather have the inner assembly made of aluminum as well.

That said, a tear down of the drive makes it appear rather easy to replace the broken part (in fact, I’m sure you could 3D print the assembly if you have access) as it’s just a double latch securing it to the drive itself. But the fact that this is an issue is the sole reason for the bad review.

That all said, the flash drive component is quite nice. It’s roomy and decently usb 3.0 speeds. Nothing to complain about technically, especially as it served as a portable veracrypt drive.

Do you care about your data? are you paranoid that one day your flash drive would just stop working (happened to me a few times now)?. Well I have very painstakingly collected tons of research data for my thesis and I don’t want to one day discover that I have lost everything just because a stupid flash drive decided to give up the ghost. I have been using this device for a year now and it always brings out the ‘oohs’ and ‘aaahs’ in people when I pull it out of my bag. It looks equally impressive sticking out of a desktop computer – like some kind of next-gen flash drive thingy… you know what I mean. But keep in mind if you’ve got a macbook pro (like me) the stick is going to be a snug fit since it sits higher than the USB ports on a macbook pro. Can’t do anything about that sadly other than just hoping it won’t snap in two in the middle of a data transfer (which it hasn’t so far). Haven’t tested out if it’s waterproof – won’t be trying that for myself even though they claim that it is on the box. All I can say is I think I sleep much better nowadays, with the thought that my data is stored safe inside a tank trapped inside a cylindrical bunker… jez saying… you can never be too paranoid.

I bought the Corsair CMFSS3B-128GB Flash Survivor Stealth, at quite a premium, for one reason and one reason only – sturdiness. Memory sticks are ten-a-penny. I needed something rugged to withstand the battering that comes with my life on a construction site.

As you can see from the photos, one of the external rubber shock absorbers is missing. They aren’t fixed in any way and it rolled off like a sock within a week of being put in and taken out of my pocket.

You can also see from the photo that the actual memory stick has detached from the ‘rugged’ body. So what I am left with is a very expensive tubular keyring to carry my memory stick around in.

Tried to track down the sellers details to report the problem but couldn’t find them easily on the Amazon page.

Save your money is my advice!

After seeing so many reviewers post damaged versions I’m curious how. Unless a defect arose in the manufacturing process. Admittedly when I received mine I was too succumbed to the indestructible nature of the product and threw it about a bit. After a variety of minutes past I questioned my actions and continued to use it as a usb drive. It has made several trips with me, and physically survived the journeys. Now a few years later I have taken it out to find all my old files still in tack from the first day I had it. So if a fat lad jumping up and down on it mixed with a water encounter in a bath tub didn’t kill it your fairly safe to rely on it….

Attached performance graph. This is on a laptop using the same test workload I use to test new cables or external drives. An older Samsung T3 SSD external drive sustains 250MB/s read or write (peaking at 350MB/s reads) through the same port using the same test files. No other workloads were running, and this was on brand new newly formatted drives.

As you can see from the graph, it sustains decent (and advertised) speeds (100MB/s) for a little while, then does this weird sawtooth pattern where either a buffer fills up and we get to the actual write speed of the storage on the drive, or something thermally throttles inside the drive – and performance craters. Actual sustained performance is <= 20MB/s writing a large file, which is absolutely terrible. This test only copies 15GB of data.

I literally get better performance from decade old SD cards. New 128GB microSDXC cards for half the price will sustain 5x this performance reliably.

Considering this is explicitly marketed as a high performance drive, I consider this deceptive marketing, and I am returning the product.
