Update March 26, 2021 – the Yoga ball finally met its match. We are fostering a cat, and she tried to jump onto the yoga ball from the couch. It was sitting in the stand, but that is only intended to keep it from randomly rolling, not an immovable base. As you might imagine, she was NOT happy about the lack of stability. The next day we noticed it was slightly deflated, and eventually found a couple punctures. I’m still going to call withstanding 5 years of abuse a win. I will be ordering another, especially since I’m pretty sure the cat has no desire to try that again.

*Sept 13, 2020* Purchased this over 4 years ago for my son to use as a chair alternative during homework. He’s a pretty hyper kiddo, and has not been gentle with it. It has helped him “get the wiggles out” and be more focused. He also has had hours of fun rolling around and bouncing on it. None of these were the intended use, and I would have been happy for it to last a year, but its still going strong! One of our best purchases for him & worth every cent.

    *1 STAR*
purchased the balance ball for my pregnancy and wasn’t too sure if it would work. It workef great for the first day, then it deflated. I requested a exchange, only to find out that sending it back cost me the same price as ordering a new one. Ridiculous !! It was too late, already at the post office, hopefully the new one doesn’t deflate.

    ***UPDATE***
I got the new one and it is still going strong! I will recommend to any pregnant mamas, it’s the knly seat I was comfortable in. And when baby came, I would use it for exercise and to bouce/rock baby to sleep.

Years ago we had this Balance Ball and it served us very well a long time. We bought this replacement less than half a year ago and it just blew up one night, nobody sitting on it, no stress on the ball.
This is an example in my view of manufacturing quality issues — something that others have also reported here. After I wrote to Gaiam they replied: “we only provide a 30 day warranty”. What kind of a warranty is that for an “anti burst stability yoga ball” as they advertise? NEVER again will I purchase from these folks and I recommend you to seek merchandise elsewhere.

Bought this to use as a birth/labor ball. I’m now 26 weeks pregnant and it’s so good to sit on. I had one with my previous pregnancy and I labored a lot on it, got rid of the ball and when I got pregnant again I knew I needed another. This was easy to inflate, has held air nicely. I’m 5’8” and the size is perfect for me as a labor/birth ball to sit on. Bonus – my 3.5 and 1.5 year old like to play with it too.

    Pros:
    Very durable
Large enough for ergomomic positioning of taller people (I am 5’11”)
    No lasting chemical smell
    Great for labor pain relief!

    Cons:
Would take you an eternity to air up with the included pump… use an electric pump if you have one!
Note you should inflate in advance of when you need it. To reach full inflation capacity you must inflate it, wait 24 hours, deflate it by half and re-inflate per the instructions.

    Additional context:
Purchased this for use during labor. Worked great as a pain relief option for contractions–sitting on this ball was about the only thing that got me through contractions from 3cm dilation up to 7cm. I also plan to use it for exercise moving forward. Great size and feels very durable. No terrible chemical smell as with some others I’ve owned in the past.

I am a birth doula so I bought this to add to my doula business as a birth ball. Its wonderful!. As with every other yoga/ exercise/birth ball you need to read the instructions and you need to inflate it as far as it will easily go the first time and bounce around on it for a little bit (my kids love this part of getting a new birth ball) then deflate it fully and inflate it again…. this will allow the ball to inflate to the full size, the rubber has to stretch out a little bit first. Think blowing up a balloon, its easier if you stretch it first. This ball has exceeded my expectations. Since I bought it for birth I have not used the Cd included so I can not review that part of the kit. The included pump works well to air the ball up, I have used it as well as used bigger hand pumps I love that the pump included is small enough to carry in my doula bag! Thumbs up for this ball!!

My first yoga ball was Gaiam brand and lasted for years! I gave my old one away to a friend and bought this new one to replace it when I moved — this one only lasted two weeks, but I found something sharp pressed into the lining so it was my own fault. Be warned, though, after having one pop under me (it was as funny and painful as it sounds), I bought a new one with a fabric lining to protect the ball and my tailbone from future popping, haha.
As far as making the switch from a desk chair to a yoga ball, DO IT! I get pain in my shoulders and neck, stiffness in my knees, and tender wrist joints from prolonged computer use in a desk chair, and I noticed an immediate relief from all of my soreness and misaligned posture — balancing on the ball keeps your core engaged, so you’re less likely to slump over and slouch your shoulders. Just to maintain balance, you need your knees and hips to be active and centered, so no more crossed legs and poor circulation from sitting all day. I’ll admit, I’ve fallen off it a couple times when it rolls, lol! Make sure you don’t grab for your desk when you lose balance, or you could pull your computer setup down with you/on top of you (speaking from experience). Also, if you suffer from ADHD, or constant leg shaking, the ball chair will soothe those tendencies. You can wiggle and bounce and move!
And for yoga use: I love having a ball for workouts. So many moves and twists are made more effective while squeezing the ball between your knees or in your arms, and you can support your backbends over the ball to open up your spine. It’s fun to incorporate the ball into yoga routines I had previously learned, and while I’m sitting at my desk I’ll often take a quick yoga break without leaving my seat, bending backwards over the ball or rolling forwards to hang my neck, and a lot of times I’ll use the momentum of rolling over the ball to push me into a standing position. I could see someone in physical therapy or recovery loving their Gaiam yoga ball for stretching and adjusting to fine-tuned movements.

Nobody paid me for this review, I really love yoga ball chairs. This is your sign, get one. Your body will thank you.
