Purchased a single Scosche CPDC8 PowerVolt 18W Type-C for my vehicle. Always good to get a little charge for my phone when you’re not home. The combined CPDC83-SP unit has the built-in 3ft cable for an extra $20.

This charger is too loose in one of my cars. As it moves, the charge goes in and out. Sometimes it stops charging altogether, and you’d have to wiggle it to get the charge back. In a different car, it is also loose but seems not to lose charge as much, but it comes out of the outlet with little force. I ordered 2, so unlikely both are duds. I have had many other car chargers from different brands, including old USB-A chargers from Scosche and they fit snug and don’t stop charging in any car I’ve used. Poor design.

2 usb c ports to charge two phones rapidly in the car

The Nexus 6P and 5X were released with Type-C ports nearly 3 years ago. Since then, no one has released a true dual port Type-C charger to the market. A few have released chargers with legacy controllers physically wited to Type-C ports, but those were not capable of delivering 3A on both ports except to proprietary Qualcomm QC devices. Finally Scosche has delivered one, and it also supports PD 3.0 on top of it!
Using two Satechi meters, I was able to get 33W out of the charger with my Pixel 2 XL in one port and MBP in the other. Most importantly, the charger did not get hot to the touch. It was barely warm at all, indicating a high efficiency. Hopefully someone like Benson or Nathan can do thorough testing on this device, as I don’t see any claims of UL or USB IF certification on the device itself or on the manufacturer’s web site or on Amazon.

I made the purchase of this charger for two mains reasons: DUAL USB c ports and power delivery.
I have fully embraced USB c with almost ever device I own and needed a charger that had the port to support it. Due to USB c still not being universal, most devices still come with USB a outputs which is a real bummer; but then I found Scosche. Not only is this car charger USB c, it also has two outputs which is amazing, because as stated above, that’s all I have. I am not able to plug in two devices and charge at the same time and I like that a lot.
The second thing, is power delivery. This allows devices to charge at a faster speed than a standard USB output and both USB c ports on this charger support power delivery. I never have issues with my phone charging while using it and I recommend this to anyone needing a good charger.

This review is for the SCOSCHE Car Charger with Dual USB C 36W Power Delivery (18W per port)
The car charger feels solid even though it feels very much like plastic. I have tried it in multiple Car outlets in the same car and a second car (4 different Car outlet). In every outlet I had to consistently move the charger to get the blue light to stay solid and work. I am glad there is a Blue Light showing power otherwise I would have no idea without looking at the phone(s) if the charger was working. In the primary car outlets in 2 different cars I constantly have to move the charger to get the blue light to stay on. I even tried 4 different outlet extenders to see if it was the car outlet of the car charger just not being held solid and work.,

It works – charges two Pixel 3s rapidly at the same time.
USB-IF certified too. This is the main reason I purchased it:

USB-C is relatively new to the car scene, but since Apple increased support for USB-C faster charging and Android starting USB-C for their ports, I wanted to support charging my friend’s phones. But there’s only single port chargers out there. Too new for support. So, I was both amazed and worried that there was only 2 dual USB-C car chargers on Amazon.
Couldn’t buy the first one because of shipping restrictions. But this one was accepted and was sent right away!
I though it may be bulky and wouldn’t fit in my new car, but it was smaller than expected! And seems to charger both devices at the same rate and time.
Very happy with this car charger.

This item is called “Dual-Port” but the ports on the device I received are different. My lightning cable from Anker fits one of the ports. It does not fit the other port, which is slightly larger and is built differently. When the cable is plugged into the first port, the charger works fine. The cable does not even “plug” into the second port–it goes in loosely and falls out easily. Why is this called “Dual-Port”? It is “One-Port” and a second port that does who knows what. Did I receive the wrong product?
Note: After writing the above, I spoke to someone at Scosche,, who said that the product was defective. I returned it for a refund.

I purchased this particular USB charger for both of us to use on road trips. However, very shortly into our first drive and use of the product, we learned that only one of the ports charged as described. The other port would charge for a few seconds and stop charging for a few seconds. It never charged consistently. I contacted Amazon to return the item and had to go through a lengthy chat with a representative.
The individual asked me to try the charger using different cables. We had already attempted this. The representative then told me that “Upon checking here that the reason why is it not working it is because it is not compatible with iOs device.” I sent her the product description and told the representative that it specifically said that the charger would work with iPhone 12. The representative reported, “It may work as of this moment, however it will eventually stopped working after some time.”
Originally, I planned to exchange the charger for a new one assuming this one was defective; however, after the representative reported the above, I decided that I would find a charger that I could be confident will work for the purpose it was purchased.
