Excellent value! I can’t believe I wanted this long to purchase the ring doorbell. This is an excellent value for both items. I like the wired version, don’t have to worry about batteries. Another excellent feature is the syncing with my Alexa devices. I feel much more secure with these items. If you’re on the fence, take the plunge, you won’t be disappointed!

This was purchased for an elderly friend and the installation is really not bad – just follow the instructions. But there were two things that slowed me down.
One was my friend is still on AOL for email, and during the installation you have to access your email (well, his email) after you create an account. AOL did not like the confirmation link sent by RING and it took me a while to figure that out. After accessing the AOL email through Chrome rather than the AOL interface, the confirmation link worked and I could proceed.
The next problem was that due to the distance between his router and the front door, his WiFi signal was rather weak, so range extenders will need to be used. The doorbell works, but when on his WiFi, the video access and uploads were a little laggy. When on cellular service, the unit functioned properly. So the next step is to get some WiFi range extenders installed.
The chimes work well. And you can log into your RING account on your PC and view the door bell video feed on your PC.

Well, yesterday I finally took it out of the box and decided to install it myself… boy was it ever easy to do! It took me almost a month to do it… Just follow the instructions and it does just what it tells you to do to get it right… I really love this door bell, the video is extremely sharp and clear both day and night, the chime is really fun too… and the variety of sounds you have to choose from is fantastic. Now I haven’t tried to use the voice yet but I am real sure that it is clear and easy to use, anyway if you want a video door bell get this RING door bell, OH, it uses you old wires and you don’t have too worry about battery changing.

This cam is great!!! this one is made for out buildings and small apartment’s
Word to the wise if you look at the bad reviews, dont believe them. do not over torque mounting screws for door bell, it will cause case to break its weather seal, do not install pig tails, direct wire it at door bell and indoor hard wire chime, use jumper that goes to indoor hard wire chime, do not bridge hard wire indoor chime so that it still works, it will cause wireless chime and cam not to work right.
will not work on wifi6 or wifi6e router or mesh, unless systems have guest wireless accounts that u can set too wpa-wpa2 and guest network’s need to be able to see whole network.
last after program make sure to set static route for door beel and chime in case of power outage.

First, it’s important to know if this is the original 2nd gen or the 2020-version of the 2nd gen Doorbell. The original has a removable battery, the 2020 version does NOT (and it’s cheaper). An important difference! I had a heck of a time installing this even though many reviews say it’s easy. I wanted to hardwire this to my old doorbell wires so I didn’t have to worry about batteries but the jury is still out on whether I have to be concerned. Originally, it would not ring the chime but it was connected to my phone and the device health said it was on battery, not hardwired – even though I did wire it. After shutting the breakers off for the 3rd time and disconnecting it, reconnecting it and making sure the wire connections were very secure (critical item that they do not emphasize enough), it reported as being hardwired. Then I kept losing the signal – got a rotating white ring around the doorbell every few minutes. I rearranged the antennas on my router (which was only 6 feet away inside the house) but that made the difference. The signal strength needs to be about -60 or better (higher) to have a stable connection. Mine is now -42 so I’m good. The concern I have is that I don’t think the battery is really charging from the very low-powered doorbell transformer. Ring manuals say in one place that it will keep the battery charged. In other locations, they say it’s just a trickle charge and you will still have to charge it occasionally. And to charge it means turning off the breakers, uninstalling it completely, charging it and then rewiring it all over again because the 2020 model does not have a removable battery! It also took a lot of Googling and testing to get it to link to my Echo Show 5 automatically – you have to connect Alexa devices to the Ring doorbell through the Amazon Alexa app and IF you have the most current version of the app, you can go into the doorbell and tell it to notify your Alexa devices when the doorbell rings – the video then displays automatically on the Echo Show – IF you link the Ring account to Alexa, IF you have the right version of the app and IF you turn on the Announcement Device options in the Ring camera through the Alexa app. I also tried connecting to Google devices – and through a website you can link Ring and Google accounts so you can say “OK, Google…talk to Ring” and you can see your battery status and turn motion detection on and off, start recording and stop – but that’s it. No video stream on Chromecast or Google Smart Displays. They could make it work…but Amazon and Google would have to stop being babies and work this out between them. I’m tired… This one seems to be a dud…it works, but man is it a lot of effort to get there!

The camera image far exceeds expectations. Hardware installation was pretty straightforward except that I had to use some spare outdoor trim to create an “L” trim piece to cover the wires from the old ringer to the Ring Camera in order to mount it on the edge of the brick wall the door frames attached to — because the dollar is set back into the brickwork by 2.5 inches. The software took a couple of tries to set up. The UCP code image would not connect to the correct web address so I just typed things in myself and hunted down the APP on the Android Apps tool. The only reason I did not give it a Five Star is that it doesn’t appear that I can access the App when I’m outside of the home internet network. It doesn’t or won’t use my phone’s data plan to access the internet and thus my Ring Door camera. That was something I wanted this thing to do — otherwise — pretty neat.

Great item at an even better price. Once installed, it has performed as advertised. Highly recommended.
