People do not understand how hard it is when your breastfed baby will. not. take. a. bottle. As you can see in the picture, we tried about 20 bottles/sippy cups. She refused, and I mean knock down drag out refused ALL of them until this magical bottle. What used to be an hour long endeavor to get even 2oz of breast milk or formula into this bottle hating baby has turned into 6+oz in 8 minutes or less. It is astounding. ASTOUNDING. I nearly died of shock. Seriously, if this is you, try this bottle.

Our 6 week old usually received one bottle feed per night since birth (to bond with Daddy and preparation for when I leave for work). Then she went suddenly from good-with-any-bottle (Dr. Brown’s and Philip Avent Natural) to refusing the bottle completely, so we went through a trials of new bottles to find if any other bottles would work. Ultimately, the Lansinoh was the winner for our little one.

Dr. Brown’s: This bottle was highly recommended from our friends and worked for feeding at the beginning. Only drawback was that it had many parts to clean. Then when our little one refused it, she temporarily accepted the bottle container with a Similac one-time-use nipple (1-2 days) but kept getting gassy (not anti-colic) and then refused it completely.

Avent Natural: We got this bottle and nipple as a sample from a baby fair. It was very easy to clean and served its purpose. It is a harder tip nipple so we thought we needed to find a nipple that was softer when our little one started refusing it.

Kiinde: We also this as a free sample and as a recommendation from a friend whose little one also went through a bottle-refusal phase. Our little one would take 1 ounce and then cry and refuse it. This “bottle” uses bags to feed and ideally keeps contaminates out and is easy to pump and store (came with universal pump adapters). Too bad our little one didn’t like the nipple on this one.

Munchkin Latch and Playtex AirVent: We found this at the BabiesRUs and after touching lots of nipples and measuring nipple tip lengths, we thought this one and the Playtex AirVent were softer and shorter nipples while allowing for stretching. These bottles were easy to clean. The first Munchkin Latch we got had a plastic piece at the bottom anti-colic device that was ripped (might be the reason for leaks in some of its reviews), so I would check the bottom of the bottle before purchasing the Munckin Latch. Playtex AirVent had a nice angle bent in the bottle to help with the feeding. Again, our little one took only 1 ounce from both bottles and then cried and refused them.

Lansinoh Natural Wave (*WINNER*): After stalking Amazon reviews on many bottles, we decided to try this one since the nipple is soft and would stretch naturally like a breast nipple. Instantly, our little one accepted this bottle and finally drank more than 1 ounce. This bottle is only 4 pieces and easy to clean. The 8 oz bottles have the Size 3 nipples (medium flow) which may flow a bit fast for a baby that is used to breastfeeding (which I assume is slow flow). We ended up buying these 8 oz bottles and the Size 2 nipples (slow flow, there is no Size 1) and our little one has been doing fine ever since (thank goodness!).

My breastfed baby refuses to take a bottle and after trying 7 different bottles, this one has been the best.

    1. Short nipple helped with gag reflex
    2. Matte finish helped with texture issues
    3. 3 piece system is easy to clean
    4. Wide neck dries much quicker than others

My suggestion for bottle rejection is there is no miracle bottle, find one your baby takes ok and stick with it! Switching bottles just caused more confusing and frustration for our little one!

Going back to work, I had to find the right bottle for my son. We introduced the tommee tippees when he was a week old and he didn’t really latch on to it. instead, the milk slowly would drip into his mouth, but right when he turned 2 months, he started fighting it. After trying several other bottles, including very expensive bottles that claim to be close to a breast, I decided to try this bottle. Alas, my picky almost 3 month son finally accepted this bottle. I wish we had this bottle for my older daughter who we couldn’t find a bottle for, and she actually drank pumped milk from a medicine cup when i went back to work. However, my son latched pretty well off the bat. The nipple is very soft and flexible like a real nipple, and the base has texture that is very similar to the real areola. The base was soft enough that he could have similar motion to a real breast. He sucked it very similar to my own breast, and there were no nipple confusions. We paced fed with the slowest nipple as well, and he seemed full based on the recommended 1-1.5oz of hour he was not fed. My son did not have any difference in his gas, but he is burped regularly throughout his bottle feed. You can’t find this type of bottle in local stores, and I’m glad that they have this on prime. This bottle is very affordable, and comfortable to hold. The price is very fair compared to other bottles made to be similar to the breast.

Tips: Have dad or someone who is not mom give the bottle. They can smell, hear, see mama and thus will not take the bottle. Cradle baby like you are going to breastfeed. Make sure the nipple is touching the roof inside his mouth like a real nipple. Then press the bottle in to help him create that suction. We found that if my son didn’t have a good suction and air was escaping, he wouldn’t latch and suck well.
