I opted for the Vello as it was going on my back up camera. Compared to the Canon it’s fit and finish is somewhat lacking. Overall not as tight and solid feeling as the Canon, but at a fraction of the cost. The texture of the grip is, in my opinion, BETTER than the Canon…. but may be at the cost of longevity.again, I am not too worried as this body/grip will sit in the case much of the time. I have put vello grips on previous Canon bodies as well, with the same result, so I gladly bought this one-especially at the price during a seasonal offer. The only thing that stops this from a five star rating is the battery tray and lock…. I have broken these on previous models (not too bad to continue using) and it was kinda annoying. I don’t see any improvement in design on this model – I’ll be more careful! Excellent value!

For the price build quality is good and works as expected. The apparent differences from the camera body are glossy plastic finish, darker soft texture material and no weather sealing.

No problems with this although I have not really used the controls on it. I got it for time lapse but like the increased battery capacity for all my photography. Can shoot the whole weekend.

I had the Vello battery grip for my Canon 5DMiii and it was nice and solid. This version fits and works so far and the grip texture feels ok but overall feels cheap and sort of flimsy.
