    Updated review:

Did a great job at the beginning but 6 months later we had to warranty it as it was overheating and would alternate between not turning on and not turning off.

    Invest in a Dyson!!

Suction is good but It’s expensive compared to performance. I bought it for around 350 cad but I think 200~250 cad would be more reasonable price performance wise. I went for this one hoping powerfin would be better over regular brushrool but hair still tangled on powerfin roll. Dust cup is also very small. It’s definately heavy for elderly people.

I am returning my second of this model. The first one overheated so bad that it melted the post-motor filter door shut. The second unit overheats too, but not so much that the thermal protection kicks in. It does however start running with less power within about two minutes of use. Another issue with this unit is the poor suction. After vacuuming, I can tap the head unit to the floor and lots of dirt falls out onto the clean floor. I remove the vacuum head to suck it up but there’s not enough suction to lift it into the canister. All filters are clean. Don’t waste your money on this Shark model. I have a full sized Shark and love it. This unit is junk!

    Where to start???

First off, cordless is fine but has it’s own issues such as battery life, charge time, and battery longevity (they stop holding a charge after a while). Eventually they hold such a short charge the product is unusable. Buy new batteries. Yes…. Because a cordless stick vacuum isn’t expensive enough as it is. LoL!!

So, having to plug a vacuum in is far from an inconvenience. Also, having a corded motor means more power, more suction.

The Shark HZ2002 Vertex stick vacuum is a MONSTER with a whopping 380 watt motor and a 30 foot cord.

It has dual rollers in the head (which is a powered head to add). One at the rear with bristles and the front with a polymer rubber fin design. So it’s abilities to scoop up debris from laminate floors, linoleum, hardwood or any hard floors is flawless.

Vacuuming kitty litter and afraid of getting 500mph granular projectile blasted back at you? No fear. The HZ2002 Vertex doesn’t let a single morsel out of it’s vortex. It sucks everything in and nothing escapes.

As for carpet, the suction is also unparalleled by any vacuum on the market in this price range. My carpets look brand new. I was ready to rent a bin and chuck all of my area rugs. The Vertex HZ2002 had such an incredible impact on these carpets because it lifted deep dirt and tracked-in debris with it’s impressive suction power.

The triple air filter system is another bragging point. Easy to clean, and recirculates the exhaust air without worry of blowing dust or allergens back into the air you are breathing in.

In addition, this vacuum is GREAT on pet fur that gets dug into the fibres of carpet and furniture.

It comes with a smaller furniture head as well as a bristle fitting and a long tappered hose for hard to reach, tight spots.

What else? It is VERY maneuverable and agile. The LED lights on the front are awesome and bright.

The canister SEEMS small but it is perfect. And super easy to clean.

Cordless vacuums have to conserve power so the head on them is powered by air flow and gearing which is inferior for proper suction.

This vacuum has restored my faith in companies again. I started to think everything in this world was low quality and overpriced gimmicks. Thank you Shark!! I will be a loyal customer for the rest of my days if you keep delivering phenomenal products like this that work flawlessly. You raised the bar in the vacuum industry.

We have been very satisfied owners of older model Shark Rocket Duo. After that was stolen, we selected this VERTEX model over the lift away APEX primarily because of the latter’s weight and because we have a lot of hardwood floors for which the VERTEX’s fins seemed better than the APEX’s finds/brushes. However, this model has some unexpected “features” that have us on the cusp of returning it. (I’ll update this review in a few weeks and rating may dip to 3/5 stars.)

    Significant Pros
    • We love the weight, which makes it easy to use on steps and for general use.
    • The head width seemed a bit narrow at first but is perfect for stairs. It greatly speeds stair cleaning.
    • The head’s light is powerful and makes it easy to see dirt.
    • Handling on hardwood-floor setting is a pleasure. It is easy to put where you want it and tracks well in a straight line on carpet and hard floors.
    • The dustbin and filter are easy to clean, maybe even easier than older models.
    • The suction power is noticeably strong.

    Significant Cons
    • Soon after use, the unit began emitting a high-pitched whine. This is now present even with the dustbin removed. It is really loud and sound pressure at my wife’s ear is 76-78 dB. (EPA max to prevent hearing damage is 70 dB, so this is about 8 times louder than that limit.) Others have posted about this problem.
    • On carpet settings on low-pile rugs (all we have) and when pulling backwards, the head tends to jump around and is difficult to keep in a straight line. It takes a bit to get used to but can eventually be mostly controlled with attention. It is possible to avoid this leaping around by just keeping on the hardwood-floor setting.
    • The flexible hose attachment has a permanently affixed crevice tool with tiny brush. It cannot be used with other tools. Our older Shark hose will not fit the new VERTEX. We do have a Kenmore hose that fits and may use that.
    • The buttons to switch from carpet to hard-floor is difficult to use even after multiple uses.

    Update
After using for 2 months, we are returning. We bought the Apex LiftAway. It’s noticeably heavier but otherwise better in every way.

Bottom line: if you mostly care about lightweight powerful suction and don’t mind high-pitched noises, this is perfect for you. Otherwise, choose another.

Cleans so, so well. Has great suction. The brushes work great for picking up every speck of dust off the ground. Easily switch between hard flooring and carpet/rug with the push of a button. Cleans out sooo easily. Separates small particles from large (so if you suck up something bigger that you didn’t want to, it’s easy to retrieve). The chord is wonderfully long (can reach my ENTIRE apartment from one plug). Storing it is slightly cumbersome because you have to detach the head and hook it onto the front of the vaccum stick, but I’ll trade that for everything else that this vaccum does.

Normally I do not write a review this early but as an engineer, the first review highly disturbed me, this product does not deserve that rating. I bought mine 3 days ago, currently, I have a cordless expensive one, but I am sick of changing the battery every two years (one original battery cost 120$ ) I bought this one – since it’s corded!!! Really – it does the job perfectly, we are happy so far. I will happy to update if I find out anything wrong with this Vacuum Cleaner…

    Thanks for reading it,

I bought a Shark Navigator 3 years ago and love it but didn’t love taking it apart to clean the brush rollers after every use so I was excited about this newer vacuum with the fins. The suction is fantastic but mine is noticeably less maneuverable and agile than my Navigator. It kink of “sticks” when steering it, but maybe it’s just the particular vacuum that I received. Also, the crevice tool is too short and I don’t know who decided that removing the pull down brush from it was a good idea but I think that decision should be revisited. On the upside hair doesn’t wrap around the brush rollers and this model is much gentler on my area rugs.

Ok….this is definitely NOT as good as my shark duo clean rocket (HV382) which I reviewed back in 2017.
Would definitely NOT repurchase this one. This was Purchased back in October, and I have waited this long to write a review…as I didn’t want to be too harsh. Ok so here I am…
The Shark duo clean rocket is actually much more effective….but it does have the roller that hair gets wrapped around and is a pain to clean…the new Vertex has the new not a roller that does not get hair and crap wrapped around it, now that btw is the best thing about this newer machine,…it doesn’t have quite the same pick up of dirt etc as it sits higher on the floor….so it picks up about half of my Dyson absolute 10, and my shark rocket.
So that’s about it, for me…just not overly thrilled….I wish Shark would concentrate more on getting ONE good product out, then all these choices and getting it half right. Just my opinion. Btw…I have 13 dogs, and vacuum incessantly….so I really do know a good vacuum when I have it! My dyson IS the BEST ever!!!
This Shark Vertex, well personally, I am SO sorry I bought it! This is definitely the WORST vacuum I have owned. It over heats, I clean it everyday, yes, I mean taking out the roller that doesn’t allow hair to get trapped in it, because it all gets trapped in front of the roller. Over heats due to a very poor filtration system. When you have to breakdown the vacuum to clean daily, you know you have a problem! I’d not only pass on this vacuum I’d run!

Honestly never having had a shark or a stick vacuum before I didn’t know what to expect but I’m thrilled. This small thing holds lots off power and is perfect for my apartment. It does get a bit tiring for one hand after a while but if you do it in sections it’s easier. The pet attachment works so so, but the double rollers do as told. Is it 100% all the time so hair tangled? No, but a quick sweep of the vaccum on the piece and you’re good to go. I have a long fured cat and I myself shed a lot too haha so I am very happy. Easy to empty out (even with all that fur!) and to figure out all the parts
