By design, you can’t see if it is working. Confirmed it was by using another style ‘trap’; when a glue trap (which I really don’t like , as they catch none rodents) was empty after 2 days using this product. BTW this was solution when conventional spring traps failed as our field mice were too small to trigger them. glue Also, ez to use around our small dog as it low profile fits in small areas with no clearance issue of spring traps.

We have a wooden trashcan with openings in the back and have been dealing with a mouse that likes to crawl in and chew the bottom of the trash bag. My fiancee has set up 5 of these mouse traps – one is right outside of the trashcan, one is inside the trashcan under the bag.

Months later, the mouse continues to go into and out of the trashcan merrily. Just now, it ran out of the trashcan and across the floor. So either – A) The mouse doesn’t care about the bait, or B) The bait doesn’t do anything to the mouse. Either way, it’s no good.

Whatever you do do NOT use this item in your house. If the mouse eats the bait and climbs in your walls, you will be smelling the most foul smell you have ever smelled in your life for about two weeks.
I GOOGLED HOW LONG DOES IT TAKE FOR A DEAD MOUSE SMELL TO GO AWAY?
    about 10 days
ANSWER: The odor will last about 10 days or perhaps a bit longer. There is no certain way that the dead mouse can be found, and there are no chemicals that will take the odor away.
    THIS IS VERY TRUE!!

I purchased this to put in a tack room in the barn to take care of some mice trying to make my tack room their home. Mice have ruined one of my saddles and chewed on other tack as well. With in a day, the little critters found the bait. They are very tiny mice so I could not see that the bait was chewed until I open up the trap and saw signed of chewing at the base of the bait. I use to see signs of them (droppings, nesting material, digging in the sand around stalls. In a matter of two days, I no longer see any signs of mice. I also have not found any dead mice in the barn. Whether the bait killed them or just drove them away…It doesn’t matter. My tack is safe.

People seem more mixed on Tomcat than JT Eaton or Farnham. I’m one who’s had little luck with Tomcat and great luck with Farnham’s and JT Eaton bait.

PROs These are very secure – no issue with that – and the top window is nice. They’re short – so won’t hold much – but will go under couches and low furniture.

Suggestion: Trim the “extra flange” off of one of the bait cup latches. Then two fingers and no key needed.

    Pictures from attic
1 Can with glued in bait chunk. A year old. Bait from one of these kits.
3 traps (this listing). A year old.
1 EMPTY JT Eaton 902 station (my favorite – the 902) 2nd time empty in the same year
1 Repeater trap (different area). These work very well – but you MUST check them at least weekly. Peanut butter no poison. Just too much maintenance for my problem level.

The rats or mice didn’t eat this, I put in a bait station and it wasn’t even touched. I guess they didn’t like the smell or something. It didn’t draw them to eat it and die. I had to buy some rat pellets and they ate that up. Don’t waste your money on this product.

We have used these, since spring, with great success. In the greenhouse adjacent to our house — technically part of our house — the mice had been eating complete flats of seedlings as if they were “micro greens.” Tomcat stopped the invasion, saved all subsequent sowings. We have been replacing disposable bait traps with refillable because refillable traps are more economical and put fewer plastic products in the waste stream. The rodents rarely die in the traps. All alternatives to poison are impractical and imprudent because where we live, in a semi-rural area near the foothills of the Rockies, there always is a danger of bacterial and viral diseases that are lethal to cats, dogs, and people. We also use Tomcat traps in ourm home too. A tip: Before we refill them, we wash the traps with Dial antibacterial soap, always with gloves on our hands, and let them air-dry thoroughly before we add the bait sticks and close them securely. Opening the traps might seem tricky, but remember that children and pets seem to have more determination than we do.

Simply does what it says. If your unsure of the pest your targeting i recommend starting with the cheaper non-refill option and review whether its worth investing longer term in this.
