I had to replace an older router. This seemed like a reasonable option and didn’t have terrible reviews. The performance and signal strength are poor. The 5G has virtually no distance beyond the room where it’s located.

The software is wonky- it “shifts” from 2.4 to 5 but that interrupts my computer’s signal and causes freezes and signal loss. Good idea, awful execution. The “feature” can be disabled but then you’re stuck with 2.4G if you’re not in the same room as the router.

I’m beyond return window so it’s going in the trash. If you only need wifi in one room and it doesn’t need to be dependable. it’s a great router.

I purchased this from Amazon on Dec 12, 2020. I installed it on Christmas eve. It started going flakey a few weeks ago. It died for good on July 1, 2021. I’ve done hard resets, I’ve called and talked with Dlink Technical Support. Their people are great. In fact – I need to note that I was really impressed at how patient, knowledgeable and thorough they were. 5 stars for their tech support team! Unfortunately – not even great people can resurrect a dead router. Over many years, I’ve used Linksys, TP-link and Dlink. I use an APC power/surge protector for routers and replace it whenever I get a new router. Wireless routers used to last about 3 years. I hope 6 months isn’t the new normal. I’ve replaced this with a locally purchased TP link AX3000. We will see.

Overall this router is a vast improvement over the generic router sent to me by my ISP. It handles heavy traffic much more efficiently, my house has three desktop computers, three gaming consoles, and when the kid’s friends are over there’s well over a dozen phones and consoles connected to the WiFi. This would really bog down my old router, but this is where the D-Link’s built in dual-core processor shines. The UI is simple and easy to use while having plenty of options for advanced users, the best one being the ability to assign certain devices priority bandwidth access, the range of the signal is great, probably almost four times that of my old router. Only have one complaint, which is why I gave four stars overall: the router is supposed to automatically assign devices to the two different WiFi networks, if a device is 5G capable it is supposed to connect it to the 5 GHz network, and if it is not 5G only then connect it to the 2.4 GHz. This is not the case for me however, I have my personal PC connected via ethernet, but my wife and step-son’s PC’s are connected via WiFi, they both have 5G capable WiFi adapters but they were frequently getting connected to the 2G network, as were 5G phones. Now it didn’t always do this, I’d say 60% of the time devices got connected correctly, but that meant 40% of the time most devices were on the 2G network which really bogs it down. So I had to resolve this by going in and disabling this feature and creating two separate 5G and 2G networks. Other then that, works like a charm.

This is an older router from 2019, and it hasn’t seen new firmware since, as I discovered when it arrived. Whether it arrived broken or there is simply some incompatibility issue, I don’t know, but it simply would not connect to the internet through my modem. No amount of troubleshooting worked, so, returned.

The first died after two days. They sent a replacement, but this one died this morning. Tech support (via chat) had me troubleshoot for more than an hour on something that person should have known was not fixable. I know this because I’ve been a LAN/WAN administrator/engineer for more than 30 years. Because of that I know how customers can often be “now it alls,” and I politely and patiently did every troubleshooting step with this person. At the end of troubleshooting s/he apologized and said s/he didn’t know what else to do and asked me if I wanted another support person to call me. I just quit chat and now will to submit an online ticket. There was a time when people on the support end often were there because they had real world experience. No more D-Link products for me!!!!

After spending almost 30 minutes on the phone with their tech support, rep stated that he would need a credit card number and buy a subscription to their “antivirus”. Stated they needed access to my PC to resolve the issue of my PC not reading the wired connection, and that my BRAND new pc that was just built had a virus. LOL. He “walked” me through a couple steps of troubleshooting using command prompt, then asked for my iP address, in which I refused to give. BE CAREFUL WHAT INFORMATION YOU GIVE OUT!!! Once I stated that I would have my friend come fix the issue, he said, “Oh, I didn’t realize you knew what you were doing.” and hung up.

I have a fairly big home (3,400 sq ft) with my internet provider’s modem/router downstairs and my big TV upstairs. While I have a fantastic internet package, my TV was constantly giving the buffering signal as it was not getting a very good signal.

I tried using some cheap repeaters as an option which seemed to slow everything down in the house. I then tried a cheap router from another company and got disastrous results. Internet speed was all over the place and the range was terrible. I decided to bite the bullet and buy this device.

Setup was a piece of cake. Normally, when I go into a router’s settings, it leaves me feeling overwhelmed with all the settings. I’m sure this router also has all those complex settings but it had a very handy wizard that allowed me set things up. It basically said, “what is your network name and what will the password be”. There is also a feature that you can use your phone to connect to the device and do things that way but I did things the old fashioned way of typing in the IP address. (Don’t forget to turn off the antenna for your internet provider’s modem/router so that it only works as a modem).

I now have a full strength signal and netflix no longer buffers anywhere in my house. No problems connecting to my work VPN either. I am very happy with my purchase.
