You can put in anything full URL, partial URL , it does not matter and redirects are not the issue. it plainly does not work. false advertising on D-Link part, shame on you. Their tech support even agrees and told me all the D-Link UI are basically the same in this regard. Also, has occasional drops had to update firmware manually by going to the site as the mechanism in UI does not get the latest. I’d ask for my money back but to be honest all these d-link m Netgear , $100 to $300 ( range wifi routers are all the same.

After being a loyal Asus router customer for many years, I thought I should try other brands to see if grass is greener on the other side…. so I got this D-link DIR-3040 plus two of their mesh units to extend wifi

oh boy, BIG MISTAKE, where do I begin, I’ve only had this D-link setup for 6 months, and have encountered the following issues:

    1. in router admin panel, connected device page is totally inaccurate, half of my devices don’t even show up.

    2. I’m running two d-link “mesh” units with this router, after a router reboot, you often have to reboot each of the mesh units as well, what a PITA

    3. after a reboot, on most of my devices wifi will stop working until you do a “forget” and re-connect cycle

    4. wifi unstable, drops connection all the time, and just randomly stop working

    5. for some reason network shares randomly stop working, can not see the share even on same network. Didn’t have this issue with my old Asus router.

    6. no firmware support, man I didn’t know how good Asus’s firmware support was until I started using this D-link, the firmware support is non-existent, D-link just don’t fix things, even with this relatively new product. Asus pushed an update to my FIVE YEAR OLD Asus router.

To D-link’s credit, at least they didn’t mess up wired connection, wired Ethernet connection is rock solid stable and fast. But nearly all of the WIFI related functions are a mess, nearly unusable.

I bought this router because it caught my attention with its Parental Control function which I would set schedule for my children not to go online at late hours. After setting the schedule and locking their devices to the schedule, the devices are no longer locked to my schedule each time their devices are assigned a new IP address. My son also complained he could not go online during his allowed hours. After all, the Parental Control function is lousy. I hope D-Link update their software and fix this issue in the near future. My current firmware version is 1.02. It is now the lastest version and I cannot update any newer version. NOTE: I used Windows 10 desktop to setup the Parental Control. I will use the smart phone to setup Parental Control to see any better outcome. I will update again.
UPDATE ON PARENTAL CONTROL: The router fails to save Apple devices (Iphone X) to my schedule. However, My Windows device (Surface Pro) was saved and locked to the schedule. I try both Desktop and Iphone to setup Parental Control and they both failed.
For stable online connection, I feel this router (AC3000 / DIR-3040) is reliable. I do not experience the dropping of connection. I had to return a D-Link router (AC1900) because my devices in the house lost connections 3-4 times a day.

    Thank you

Not only is it the worst router, but also the most expensive as I believe this is a quite high end router for a home.

It’s been giving issues since day 1. The “Smart Connect” feature kept kicking me out of the network every 10 or 15 minutes (from all my devices: phone, laptop, etc). If I was a bit far away from the router it happened more frequently, making it unusable.

I turned off “Smart Connect” and it improved a little bit. But not enough. I live in a building so there are many wifi networks around. I guess it was still suffering from some interference so I set up the wifi channels of each network manually. After this, it improved (it was decent enough).

Then hell broke loose when I turned on the guests network. Suddenly, I couldn’t see one of the 5GHz networks. The other two became super unstable. I couldn’t even configure them from the Admin page (http://192.168.0.1/) as there was an error in that page that wouldn’t let me see the wireless options!

I contacted Amazon (after D-LINK simply ghosted me on Twitter), had to hard-reset the router and then was able to configure it again, and see all 3 networks back. I decided to never turn on the “guests network” again. Too unreliable.

And then I tried to reproduce some files using an Apple TV, via VLC and a USB drive that I connected to this router. The router doesn’t show all the files via UPnP (for some reason, the SMB option doesn’t appear). A way cheaper router (from another brand) that I have, does it perfectly. I didn’t see any easy way around this, so I decided to connect back my old router (AC1750), which is way more reliable in all aspects.

This router is now paperweight, unless I’m able to get a refund from Amazon.

Nice upgrade from stock unit from charter. I have a 2 story, 2,400 sqft house. I tried to go with a mesh router before this and it was a horrible mess and couldn’t get over 100 speed. After talking to tech support I returned it and got this hoping for better. And I feel like I got way way better. Sadly my phone is the only tech I have that gets the fastest wifi speed. So I used that for the speed tests. I had one night that I was getting horrible speed. But I think it was more my phone then the router. Other then that I’m getting between 150-200 speed tests. But the router is pushing out 433. The 2 pictures of the single strength is right in front of the router, and at the furthest point of the house which is also the furthest away from router. While the single strength of the wife still shows pretty good at a distance it does cut out some. And my daughters old galaxy E tablet likes to buffer some while in the same room at router. But I know it’s pretty old. I did call tech support once because I felt the single was meh. I don’t like sitting on the phone so used the chat. And when got to someone you could tell they were also chatting with multiple multiple people so that was a little frustrating.
